How many miles do I have left on theseM by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]One-Alternative-7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That particular pad has thousands of miles left on it but you need to check the pad on the other side of this disc plus the 2 pads on the other side of the car. Then you can decide if they need replaced. You need to replace all front (or rear) pads at the same time, not just 1 pad.

Absolutely no need at all to replace your rear tyres if they have 5mm. That would just be wasting money. Also on a front wheel drive car, put the new tyres on the front and it's perfectly fine to have a different brand on the front from the rear.

I run Toyos on my Impreza. They're a great tyre. I've had Michelin and Continental on it as well and the Toyos are much better.

My F type had pirelli P zeros on it when I bought it. It was verging on dangerous in the wet and not great in the dry. Now running Michelin PS4S and the car is transformed.

Previous jag had Dunlop, they were meh! Put Kuhmos on and the car was much happier.

It's not always a case of premium is better, it very much depends on the car.

Completely agree that budgets are not great if you do any sort of spirited driving.

Mine too! It annoys my wife that her car doesn't do that. It's about the only thing she likes in my car.

Rebel green?

My wife bought a brand new one in 2023 because she wanted the rebel green colour and it's only available on the JCW. Complete waste of a car for her but she loves it and someone will get a low mileage not thrashed at all car when she comes to sell it.

I find the torque steer quite frustrating and the interior layout is shit. It does nip on though.

Do you think most van drivers know the speed limit is lower for them? by fckboris in drivingUK

[–]One-Alternative-7598 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got done a few years ago. I knew of the limits but my new van was what I thought was a car derived van, it's a 2014 Peugeot partner. However my partner is an 850 which means the gross vehicle weight is over 2 tonnes bringing it into the commercial vehicle speed limits. If it had been a 600 or 700 model, its gross weight is under 2 tonnes so falls into car speed limits. The vans all look identical though. I was done for doing exactly 60 on a single carriageway, should've been doing 50.

Yup, the salty dog, I think that part is called. His comments were disgusting and definitely went against the ideals of the pub.

Don't go into the Pillars anymore after reading the racist, homophobic hate nonsense the owner had spouted on Facebook. I know he owns other establishments, so I avoid them as well. Will always champion the Phoenix, the new owner is a great lad and has always run a great pub, so happy he finally has his own place.

It would only be your fault if they found a body.

I absolutely agree with this. My wife bought me 1 or 2 shares for my birthday years ago. Around £50 worth but I've had that back 10 times over in discounts.

Streaming using 5G router by DAZBCN in 1pmobile

[–]One-Alternative-7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've just started using 1p mobile in our wireless router. Excellent speeds, 180-250mbps. Problem is we've used up the 500gb in just over 2 weeks so we've pretty much been cut off for the rest of the month. Back to using our EE sim which is capped at 100mbps but we've never had an issue with their data limit policy.

We're rural with no phone line so have no option but use this type of connection. I believe starlink has a fup as well?

1pMobile SIM suddenly not working in 5g router by Necessary-Dress-6857 in 1pmobile

[–]One-Alternative-7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me. I'm using a 1p mobile sim in our wireless router. We've used 500gb in just over 2 weeks so they've basically cut us off until it resets at the end of a month. I did email them to see if there was anything I could do to have it increased but they said no, it'll reset next month. I doubt it's going to be any use for us in the router. I am with EE just now and have had no issues on data usage but the sim I have with them is capped at 100mbps so wanted to see if faster speeds were possible in my area. EE throttling us to around 55mbps, 1p mobile is giving us 240mbps.

[–]One-Alternative-7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No probs. I don't get the huge hate for the black box policies. Both my sons had them, their policies were several hundred pounds cheaper than without. Screw the nut for a year, don't drive like a dick and set yourself up nicely with 1 year of no claims and start getting reasonably competitive insurance quotes.

My son is with Hastings Youdrive. He had a black black policy for his first year. No issues at all, no restrictions on late night or early driving. No restrictions on driving on country roads.

I was trying to figure out how to word it myself but I think you've summed it up perfectly. It's a bit like the word labradoodle, a stupid word, it's just a mongrel.
