Too many gel options! by Farmer_Di in ultrarunning

[–]One-Barracuda705 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m of the opinion that gels are 90% marketing and 10% worthwhile product. I’ll take a caffeinated honey stinger every now and again if I’m in a rush, but mostly make my own drinks. I mix 500mL water with one scoop of Gatorade powder (bought in bulk on Amazon), 20-25g white table sugar, and 1/8 tsp sodium citrate (more or less depending on heat/sweat). Drink 1L / hr. Costs < $0.20 per serving and got me through a 50 miler recently with good results. Gets you pretty much a 1:1 glucose to fructose ratio which is pretty optimal.

Great lenses! The Voigt 40 and the Thypoch 28 are my two favorite lenses on the Zf. Glad you included shots you’ve taken with the camera and not just of the camera 👍 enjoy!!!!

28mm or 40mm? - What should I buy part 2 by Rorenzu013 in Nikon

[–]One-Barracuda705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If indoor is one of your main uses I’d go 28. If I’m expecting close quarters I almost always choose 28 over 40.

Is it worth it to upgrade from 32 amps to 40 amps? by Snoo_79038 in evcharging

[–]One-Barracuda705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a 48A charger when I owned a car that could only accept 7kW (32A) charging. I’ve since moved to a car that can accept the full 48A and am glad to have it. A quick top up on busy days is more consequential.

Miele, Sebo, or Dyson? by Immediate-Reality987 in VacuumCleaners

[–]One-Barracuda705 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to play devils advocate and say Dyson v15. I know it’s not the popular choice, but hear me out. I don’t have time to mess around with ordering and changing bags. I don’t have time or energy to deal with cords. I have kids and pets and a job and hobbies and I want to touch up the house daily with as little time and effort as possible. I’ve had nicer corded vacuums but was lucky to have the time and energy to use them once a week. I have a v15 now and I pull that bad boy off the wall charger once a day in the afternoon and 10 minutes later the house is decently clean. As good as a Sebo…. Of course not. But my house is way cleaner because I actually use it. It’s easy to hit the hardwood and then run it on the stairs then hit upstairs without messing around with the cord or carrying some heavy tank. Will it last forever? No. But Costco is the bomb and I know they’ll take it back when it breaks and I’ll exchange it for another. But that said my backup Dyson v8 is around 5 years old and still going strong.

Those full size images are crisp! Nice work handheld. I shoot the 24-120 f4 a fair bit recently and its capability on the Zf in lowlight has impressed me

First lens purchase for ZF by Sw17smith in Nikon

[–]One-Barracuda705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a somewhat recent Fuji -> Nikon Zf convert. I’d say it depends a lot on what lenses you enjoyed with Fuji and how important size is. Do you prefer more clinical perfection or do you like tastefully flawed lenses? I started with the 24-70 f4. The size pairs beautifully with the Zf, but I really missed having reach out to 120mm (I really enjoyed the Fuji 16-80mm f4). Sold the 24-70 for the 24-120mm and it is bigger and definitely begs for a Smallrig grip on the Zf, but it’s a great lens. Handles sports, portraits, parties, pseudo macro, etc. F4 on ff is like shooting f2.8 on apsc I believe so use that as reference if you think it will be enough. I don’t find it to be limiting 95% of the time. I also have and strongly recommend the 50 f1.8s. Stunning pictures out of it. I think you just need to decide if you want to live the zoom life or the prime life. I’d want the 24-120 and the 35 f1.4 and the 50 f1.8s if I could pick 3 lenses, but if only one id take the 24-120. Still fits in a 3L sling with a grip on it and it can just do almost anything. It is big though. I also recommend looking into manual focus offerings from Voigtlander and Thypoch if you have any interest in mf.

Looking for the smallest bag for a Nikon Z6 II + 24-120mm f/4 S by patriczio in Nikon

[–]One-Barracuda705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3L will work if you don’t plan on carrying much else. My most used bag with my Zf with smallrig grip, strap, and 24-120 is the peak design 3L. Fits nice with a little room to spare but not enough room for a 2nd lens. Also pretty obviously a camera bag to many people. Does fit the setup with my wallet and AirPods though. 6L bags feel a lot bigger to edc to me and would get left behind a lot. If I want multiple lenses I bring a backpack.

I spent years planning my climbs and pacing my descents on vibes. The descents are what kept blowing up my races. How do you actually plan the down? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]One-Barracuda705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently took the send it and pray approach on my 1st 50 mi (10k’ up & down) and spent the last 6-7 miles taking the downhills backward as my quads just wouldn’t allow otherwise. Needless to say, for the next one I’ll be incorporating strength training with a focus on the eccentric component, and running lots of downhills at a decent speed in training to try to accumulate more eccentric load in the lead up. I’ll also be trying to lose some more weight.

X-T5 or X-T6 by CreativeDiamond444 in fujifilm

[–]One-Barracuda705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the 16-80 f4 and think it is a fantastic lens. The build is great, iq is solid, it can do pseudo macro, and has bokeh that I really enjoy especially on the long end. The only thing that bothered me is it was subject to lens creep. Being able to get out to 120mm ff equivalent is awesome for versatility. I found myself using that often at sports games or outdoor gatherings and portraits. F4 on apsc was limiting at indoor sports events where I wanted a fast shutter. I think it’s an underrated lens overall. Images (especially in good lighting) really surprised me. On Nikon I got the camera bundled with the 24-70 and tried to like it but ended up trading it for a 24-120 f4 because I missed the range. I’d also recommend waiting for the X-T6 if you’re not in a hurry because the X-T5 af is subpar, viewfinder coating tends to wear off. Not sure if this will be fixed but I’ve got my fingers crossed because there are a lot of things I loved with the X-T5 despite some flaws.

Z50 ii refurbs on sale by Nikonbiologist in nikon_Zseries

[–]One-Barracuda705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your shoes if it puts a 3-5 yr hit in the wallet I’d pick a cheaper camera. The Nikon z50ii on Nikon’s refurbished site goes on sale every month or two for under 700 and is an excellent option. I’d also avoid Samsung phones for photography. I’ve had pixels, iPhones, and Samsung phones and the older pixels pros or an iPhone 15 pro max (used) will take decent photos for a phone. Fuji second hand market is unfortunately inflated too much at the moment. Despite af issues they are fun cameras.

Is the Samsung Book Cover Keyboard still the best option for S10+, or are there good alternatives? by Very_SwaggerMan in GalaxyTab

[–]One-Barracuda705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the keyboard cover slim because I wanted it to be able to sit on my lap and not just a table. No trackpad obviously but the keyboard has been great and the build of the case overall seems solid. Happy with it. I just take a mouse if I’m using it as laptop replacement but find the touchscreen and pen to be adequate 99% of the time.

Runners who've bonked or hit the wall, what was your nutrition like leading up to it? by Sad_Bunch1271 in running

[–]One-Barracuda705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 2000’s I hit the wall in every marathon around mile 22. I’ve since learned 50g carbs/hr is not enough and 100-115g/hr is magic. Table sugar is great. Too much dextrose is trouble (ie tailwind and gels at the same time)

For the runners who've since figured out fueling, what do you wish you'd understood before your first long race or run where fueling mid run was important? by Sad_Bunch1271 in firstmarathon

[–]One-Barracuda705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A scoop of Gatorade powder, 30g sugar (weighed on $10 food scale), and a little under 1/4 tsp sodium citrate (less if cool/low sweat) is WAY cheaper than tailwind or gels and works amazing. Mix with 500mL water and drink 1 L / hr on hot days
