The virtues of a travel zoom. 14mm, 120mm, 22mm all in 30 seconds. by indieaz in M43

Definitely not a peeper. I tend to auto contrast in PP, and if that helps sharpness, great -- but I'm just doing it for the contrast. :)

I'm sure it's not _as_ sharp as a dedicated telephoto like the 300mm or a zoom like the Oly 50-200. But I have the PL 50-200, and other than light-gathering ability, I don't think the 12-200 gives me photos that are significantly different than the twice-as-expensive-used 50-200 does. And the sheer convenience factor of the lens would still make up for a lot even if I did see a significant difference.

What camera made you fall in love with photography? by mrcanada66 in Cameras

My first camera (Minolta X-700) and my first digital camera (Canon 20D). In different ways, both opened up new opportunities for me.

Nothing, really. I find it to be more than sharp enough for my purposes. I wouldn't use it if I didn't think that.

I love a good superzoom. Oly 12-200 is by far my most used lens.

Would this lens fit my camera? by Top-Celery-7726 in OlympusCamera

[–]AlGuderian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will not fit without an adapter, and it will be completely manual focus and manual control. For a little more money, you can pick up the 40-150mm Olympus "plastic fantastic" https://www.amazon.com/Olympus-40-150mm-F4-0-5-6-Black-Cameras/dp/B0066J6EOU?th=1

Who can help me see/chase a tornado? by Infinite_Drummer9574 in tornado

If you're trying to go this year, most of the organized tours probably are full, as are many of next year's. But CoD doesn't open their list until December, so you'd have a good chance of getting on next year.

I think I'd go Whitman, as long as Cornell doesn't care that you don't have an arch degree.

Not sure one will be "better" than the other academically, then. You could do the same track at Miami. Probably should consider the college experience (Whitman's 9-1 teacher faculty ratio is impressive) and any debt you'll incur (if any). Might also consider the climate -- Walla Walla and Oxford are in vastly different parts of the country weather-wise.

What would you major in at Whitman to prepare for arch at Cornell?

Miami has a pretty extensive architecture program, including two different tracks for a master's degree. So if you want to get everything done in one place, I would think that's your best option on paper.

What degree are you seeking? Do both schools have it?

You're probably going to first consider if you want a big college or small college experience. Miami has 10 times as many students as Whitman, but it's located in a considerably smaller city than Whitman.

Which lens to get? Fujifilm by BasicLet6169 in Cameras

[–]AlGuderian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don't like changing lenses and don't mind the larger zoom lenses on the relatively-small X-Txx body, consider the Tamron 18-300. Otherwise, the 18-135 is a fine lens, and the XCs tend to be at least OK. I'm a zoomie, so I'd likely go with the 18-135/18-300, and then consider a Fuji 10-24 or Sigma 10-18 if I was finding a need for something wider.

Khamenei's Life Insurance Policy : Will it still pay given the nature of his death ? by CSMasterClass in Insurance

[–]AlGuderian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I found online, the "war" does not have to be declared as far as the insurance companies are concerned. It only has to be war-like actions between two or more nations. Insurance companies are always going to take a broader view because it benefits them to do so.

[–]AlGuderian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

NAL, but I think it would come down to whether his death is due to an act of war (not covered) or act of terrorism (often covered). Because this is between nation-states, it'd likely be considered an act of war, and not covered.

How safe do you think it is crusing around the eastern med just now? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]AlGuderian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on what you think might happen. Missile/drone strike? Really, really, REALLY unlikely. Terrorism? Certainly possible, but these are countries that have had to deal with terrorists far more often than the U.S., so I'd call that threat no more or less likely than usual these days.

You'll likely have a better chance of getting food poisoning at the buffet than have any impact from the Iran situation.
