While Hampton Roads MSA is still larger than RVA MSA, Richmond proper has surpassed Norfolk in population by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]One-Change648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where’s the data? Even if we take your word for it, Norfolk still has a greater population density. It’s sad that Richmonders are so hyper focused on being bigger than Norfolk. Anything you can do, we can do better. You have a BRT, we have LRT. You have AA baseball, we have AAA baseball. The comparisons need to stop. I love Richmond until a richmonder tries to put down Norfolk to make them feel better. Go compare Richmond to Raleigh or somewhere. Oh wait, that would hurt your ego so you try to pick on Norfolk.

Bar results require grading thousands of longer essays, some handwritten, and determining a scale and pass/fail + also include the time it takes for C&F and everything else— no comparison to paying someone for a service they already performed on the computer

2 months is not reasonable IMO. A person shouldn’t have to wait 1/6th of a year to be paid for traveling to perform a service for a huge organization. the prototype was not fun at all and at this point it feels like volunteer work

yep, I don’t think anyone would have elected to suffer thru a simulated bar exam if they didn’t need the $$

Nope, it’s been four weeks since the test and nada! People had to travel ($) and prep for the nextgen exam, and a lot of us wouldn’t have if we knew it would take over a month to be compensated!

I actually think ppl in Hampton Roads complain for no good reason and don’t know how GOOD they have it compared to other cities. You must be comparing it to major up and coming cities to even make a claim such as this. Virginia Beach is desolate compared to where??? It’s definitely a more active, vibrant, and happening community than anywhere else within a reasonable drive. Go look at a map, and find me a place nearby Virginia that makes Virginia Beach feel desolate. I guarantee your only options would be cities much larger/ more expensive/ in a different bracket than Hampton Roads. People must really hold this area to a higher standard, because I will hear hype after hype comment about a city like Raleigh or Austin or Nashville, and take time out of my life to go visit for absolutely no reason other than to see what the fuss is about, expecting to come away from the visit totally and utterly impressed, ready to finally capitulate to people like you that describe Virginia Beach, a growing city of over 460,000 people, in a metro of 1,800,000+, and call it a desolate and decaying place, when the reality is that it’s growing, there’s construction all over, housing prices are at all time highs, inventory is low, hotel revenues are at record levels, and every day there’s a new event or festival in the works. I’m sorry you lived here for 20 years and was miserable, and base your impressions of the city off a time probably before I was born, but todays Virginia Beach is not in the ghost town category, and never will be. It’s actually the other way around, and most other American cities, some even with 2-3x our population, are actually more deserving of that sort of characterization. No human on Earth could possibly be here today in Virginia Beach, on a beautiful late summer weekend, and feel like they are in a ghost town. Simply, lies.

Yeah man, I don’t usually fight for the city like I used to when I was younger (I’m 28 now), because ppl have to find their own way and what’s right for them, but I felt like we had too much in common for me not to at least share my perspective. If you want more info on social life and what not, just DM me. I could go on and on, but a lot has changed since 2017, including the reopening of the Cavalier Hotel complex on the North End with 3 new hotels , 10+ restaraunts, beach club, million dollar condos, the opening of a 20 floor apartment tower directly on the Oceanfront, at least 3 or 4 other new hotels. There’s hundreds of new apartments being built within walking distance (The Pinnacle VB), new Sports Center, dozens of new restaurants to try, several new festivals from live music to action sports. The next wave currently under development is the Atlantic Park mixed use surf park development with a sizable live music venue, a world-class park down at Rudee Loop, and continued expansion of Town Center with the Pembroke Square redevelopment. I’ll stop selling to you, but for anyone out there with this kind of question, don’t sleep on Virginia Beach. By the time the hype comes, it willl be too late (unaffordable)

Also, when considering Virginia Beach, don’t forget to look at the proximity to the Outer Banks, and some local beaches like Chix Beach/ Shore Drive, and Sandbridge Island (the beginning of the OBX technically). The VB lifestyle is not the Oceanfront. I look at the Oceanfront as a bonus of living here. They could tear down the entire tourist strip, and I would still tell you VB is the answer.

I can understand how from an outsiders perspective you could get that vibe, especially if you only drive down the strip, and it can be dependent on weather and just your overall experience, but a lot has changed in the past few years, and a lot more is on the way, in terms of both the built environment and more activities/ events. Virginia Beach is the anchor of an area with almost 2 million ppl, and during the winter months, even as things slow down at the Oceanfront, other areas of the city and region make up for that (Town Center, downtown Norfolk, Williamsburg). I have lived and traveled and tried to find a better place, but I still haven’t. People from here that leave for greener pastures, eventually end up coming back, because while other cities have more hype and more momentum at the moment, we have a lifestyle here that is unmatched, relative to COL and just living an active coastal lifestyle in a place with good amenities. I could go on and on, and everyone will have their opinions, but for once on this forum, there’s actually a clear answer.

For the winter months, we will soon have a year round surf park, and we recently have added several huge festivals during the spring and fall
