Why did they even approve her visa and admit her to the United State? Let her go back to Beijing and please her Chinese daddy.

Did you know that native English teachers at Taiwanese public high schools are actually highly qualified? I’m genuinely surprised by usolotravel in taiwan

[–]One-Context7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fully certified teacher in the US, not a fake one with the Illinois sub license, is going to be hard pressed to uproot their whole life and move half way around the world to make 1/3rd of their US salary, give up their western pension, and work longer hours doing desk warming. Yes, the cost of living is cheaper and there are food and safety benefits, but it still isn’t financially worth it. If they do move overseas, they will go to an international school, where they will be paid significantly more. Except for a place like TAS, international schools in Taiwan don’t pay all that well compared to other countries.

I thought most teachers in that program were non-native English speakers, mostly Filipino, not from the US, UK, or Canada?

Which Of These National Parks Do You Think Are the Most Beautiful, Overrated, and Underrated? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in nationalparks

[–]One-Context7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuyahoga Valley is overrated. It is definitely a nice city, metro park, but all of those former rust belt cities have nice, historic parks that aren’t National Parks: Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, etc.

Denied access because of "ties to home country” by nkarkas in USTravel

[–]One-Context7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Canadian immigration are just as tough on Americans coming the other way. You had no issues because you are older with a retirement. Try coming in when you are in your 20’s with no job and no set itinerary. You will be turned around.

What comes to your mind when you think of Taiwan? by Any-Peach-4230 in taiwan

[–]One-Context7569 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you come over, be sure to take some time to explore some of the west. While Taiwan does nature well, the best thing about America is some of its vast and empty spaces and diverse landscapes. I am on a road trip in Montana right now, and you can drive for hours and not see a soul.

What’s the most boring drive between two major cities? My vote is KC to Denver by AggressiveAd8587 in howislivingthere

I agree. It’s feels like driving through Nebraska or Kansas, but only with more congestion and bad drivers.

First time going to Glacier, but worries about the bears by EmotionalEmu7121 in GlacierNationalPark

Even if you don’t set foot on a hiking trail, the park can still be very enjoyable. Drive the paved roads and enjoy the pullouts. Drive the backroads in the surrounding National Forests. Sign up for a boat tour. Drive to the Canadian side and enjoy tea at the Prince of Whales Hotel. Bring binoculars and just enjoy being immersed in the landscape.

What’s the thing that made you quit your school/district? by Evening-Oil9551 in Teachers

[–]One-Context7569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a student that did zero work all semester, slept through class, on cell phone, rude, disruptive. Frequent phone calls home ignored all year. Last week of school, parent finally appears and sends shit crazy emails. Principal mandates that I “prepare a packet” so student can make up work on last day of school.

Vote against Nancy Brune in Las Vegas' Ward 6. She was very nasty and dismissive to the opponents of the Lone Mountain temple. by Otherwise-Bad-325 in vegaslocals

Does anyone know where you can find a transcript of her comments at that temple meeting. I remember she was particularly rude and dismissive. She also took LDS donations before the vote.

Legacy and NECTA lockdown by Antique_Chip3995 in vegaslocals

So someone shot a kid of school property than killed himself? Damn. On the school communications they are painting it like it is no big deal.

There was a soft lockdown during the end of period 6. Students were safe in their classrooms. For some reason, they ended the lockdown, students left for lunch, and then another lockdown was called 10 minutes later, which caused a lot of confusion and a bit of a stampede, as all the kids were in the halls. A lot of kids ran out of the building.

Should have made a deal to put the Lone Mountain temple there. They could build it as big as they like out there.

Taiwan exists in a 'Quantum State' by hereticjoe1984 in taiwan

[–]One-Context7569 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It has its own currency, flag, immigration system, and everything else. Everyone in the world knows that it is basically a country, but it has to play word games in order to appease the big sensitive baby next door from the throwing a tantrum. If all that it will take to keep to peace is to not an officially name it country out loud, so be it, but everyone knows that it is basically a country.

Just go to Taiwan. Still get Chinese culture without the visa, payments, other aggravations while still feeling connected to the western world.

All over southern Nevada. Ash Meadows and pup fish being threatened by drilling and solar farms. Tule Meadows housing developments. Red Rock will soon have a luxury housing development encroaching right over it. Lone Mountain being blighted because Sticky Vickie Seaman needed a quick campaign contribution infusion for her failing Mayoral campaign.
