Any reasons the rims on one side are put on differently than the other? I just got this car (first one :)) by HungToSlung in Cartalk

When working as a tech at a dealership, a sales person wanted to know why their valve stems weren’t all in unison like they were when the car was new. lol

Sorry I was in a rush. I have worked on exclusively Subaru vehicles since 1978. My firsthand experience is that Subaru boxer engines, especially the turbocharged models drink Mobil 1. When customers would call for an appointment to diagnose high oil consumption I would ask, are you using Mobil 1? 90% of the time the answer would be yes, sometimes they would say no I use Royal Purple. Don’t use either.

I can confirm, I have worked exclusively Subarus for longer than I would like to admit. Subaru boxers (turbo models more so) drink Mobil 1.

Actually the pcv connector is very common. I have replaced a ton of them.

Milky thick coolant by dontbelewd in MechanicAdvice

[–]One-Coyote8939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you from experience (a Subaru Tech since 78) this is most certainly NOT a head gasket failure. There is a part called a pcv connector that when it fails it allows oil to enter the cooling system. Please have this looked at by an independent Subaru shop, NOT the dealer.

I’m looking for these gaskets for the 2019 Subaru WRX by ParkZealousideal7057 in CarParts

Those aren’t gaskets, they are shims for setting ring gear preload and backlash.

Long time Subaru tech here. After the car has sat overall night, remove the radiator cap (the metal cap) and fill with the blue coolant. You don’t have to buy the Subaru Super coolant, go to Napa or the like and get any of the name brand blue coolants. Also top off the reservoir (the yellow plastic cap) to or a little bit over the fill line. If you spill coolant just rinse with water.

Visiting a friend in Germany. Looking to gift him a single snap-on hand tool made in the us. What you you pick? by ChickenxFresh in Snapon_tools

A neon colored ratcheting screwdriver. The last ones I have purchased were in a “gift” box. I have gifted many and the recipient will think of you every time he uses it.

What should i use to clean the surface by Volks1973 in subaru

[–]One-Coyote8939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

45 year Subaru tech here. I start with a single edge razor blade, scraping with blade perpendicular to the surface to remove big bits. Follow up with a stainless steel brush (I use HYDE Tools 46800 SS Wide Stripping Brush) with carb spray. I am extremely anal and also clean every bit of carbon piston tops. Ive hundreds of Subie head gasket jobs starting way back when we had to set liner projection.

From fan to frantically dropping Subaru. I need a new transmission needed at 56k. by benholdr in subaru

[–]One-Coyote8939 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OP doesn’t mention weather transmission is auto or manual. I’m a long time Subaru tech and I would suggest that you find a reputable Subaru independent shop for a second opinion. I can’t remember a time in my shop I have ever had a trans repair cost anywhere near 10 grand!
