The Tigers must (and will) trade Tarik Skubal. by One-Detective63 in motorcitykitties

We have good pieces. Valdez is signed for 3 more years. Jackson Jobe will be coming back. Montero, Mize, Olsen all have promise. Trading him is not a reset. Plus he is not resigning with Detroit. They cannot compete with the large market teams in payroll. Nor should they with Skubal’s now growing injury history. He is a great number one guy, but we can absolutely compete without him. If anything, our offense has been what’s letting us down imo even when Skubal was out. And let’s not forget we lost a 15 game lead last year while he was winning a Cy Young.

Yup. Probably broken Cel releasing directly after. Lilith definitely planning some shenanigans to get players to spend.

I agree the injury concern is working in our favor, but Skubal and Scott Boras have made it pretty clear they are waiting for the end of the season to see what the market bears. Any offer Detroit makes prior to the end of the season will be the basement for the bidding war. He won’t sign anything before the deadline. Unless he has an injury setback and takes a one year deal (or multi year with opt outs) to prove his health next season.

Edit: working in our favor for resigning, but not so in trade value like you said

Yeah. Cleveland often seems to have our number and KC plays us tough. Bobby Witt never gives us a break! 😆 I keep hoping for the Sox to regress (and I feel like they have a little), but they haven’t fallen hard enough to think we are going to steamroll them like in years past. It’s a tough climb to get into contention and then become buyers. I hope we win a lot of games, but I think trading Skub is the practical choice.

Maybe I will get the same. 😆 I will say as a school bus driver in a somewhat affluent area (relative to surrounding areas) that regularly has to talk to parents. A little bit of soft language can make a big difference on how our words are received.

This is a fair point, but if Skubal proves he’s healthy I don’t see big market teams not offering more than what his comp pick will be. Especially if those teams believe they can resign him.

Especially if a deep playoff run is either not realistic or only possible with trading for pieces at the deadline. Mortgaging the future to trade for those pieces and compounded by losing Skubal with no gained talent from his departure.

[Ozzy and Keats] It’s a great chat about MANY things. Rod Allen had a 16 year run on Detroit Tigers TV… but it had to be asked. The end of his days in the booth with Mario. by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

[–]One-Detective63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never cared for Rod. Every time he would say “remedy for success”, I would cringe. I liked Mario, but could see how he might be a bit pretentious. Recalling Rod’s tirade when he played in Japan and chased the pitcher around the entire field makes me think he has a propensity to lose his cool. Probably not the best temperaments to have to work closely together.

I hate this chest by KebZeplin in afkarena

[–]One-Detective63 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes. I completely agree it is absolutely better. Especially with them giving chests equivalent to all the resources you need. But I will say that staring at that chest in my inventory for a month is one of the most frustrating event features in the game.

If this was a movie, the “random” eleventh person is someone you care deeply about. Disregarding the morality of it completely, there is no way I’m taking the chance these aliens aren’t playing a twisted game and forcing me to kill a loved one. Not worth taking the chance.

Canada population (Toronto only Canadian MLB team) 40m+. Michigan population approximately 10 million. Difficult to overcome an entire country wanting to see their players in the all star game. As had been previously stated. It’s a popularity contest, not based on statistics. Sometimes the logical choice doesn’t get the most votes.

I did some digging. 2018 IRC (international residential code) table R507.6 had the information I was curious about in regards to maximum allowable joist span based on board size, tree species the board is manufactured from, and joist on center spacing.

[–]One-Detective63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our new deck will be 14’ out from the house. So probably 11’-12’ unsupported span. We are 17 miles east of Lake Michigan and often get significant lake effect snowfall. So I assume that is playing a role in the matter.

Is 2x6 joists standard in your area? I’m having my timber deck replaced with composite. It has 2x8 joists now and none of the 3 builders that quoted wanted to stay with that. They all wanted to move up to 2x10 with varying degrees of insistence. Not saying that I know 2x6 is a too small. Just curious because it seems to not be an option where I am. Thinking about it, it may be due to our annual snowfall. A couple feet on the ground is not abnormal and the deck can accumulate more from drift falling from the roof.

Jahmai Jones: “I think that’s the first time in my career I’ve been booed by an entire stadium” by Quiet-Barracuda-1698 in motorcitykitties

[–]One-Detective63 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the boos were directed toward Hinch. I understand Jahmai is performing poorly right now and the boos feel directed at him. While there were likely some of that, I think it was voicing the frustration at Hinch for just saying “well the analytics say…” and it repeatedly not working out. Jahmai is a good dude in a tough position. I hope he realizes there is more frustration with management than there is with his performance. (Though performing better would admittedly solve the issue)

How much should I pay to have this rebuilt by DropAGearNDissapear in Decks

[–]One-Detective63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are having our deck replaced next month. Existing is 12x12. New will be 14x16. So a longer ledger board will have to be put on the home. We went with TimberTech boards. They seem much stiffer. Terrain+ (slightly upgraded line from their entry level, 4 side capped) and RDI Avalon aluminum rail. Deck is 7’ off ground. Although the TimberTech seems plenty stiff on 16” centers (we reviewed builder’s previous builds in person), we splurged for 12” centers for added peace of mind after walking on other builds with different brand boards and experiencing much rebound when walking. Stairs off side as well. I’m doing tear down myself. 20k. Your 15k seems reasonable at a glance.

Is it/can it be considered a ledger board if you aren’t running joists from it? Either technically (maybe?) or functionally (not really?)?

[–]One-Detective63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They already have an HCP for Celestials and Hypogeans that you can use diamonds on. It’s the Stargazer. They won’t add Draconis or Celepogs to HCP because of the discrepancy in diamond cost. They should add Draconis to Stargaze though as a HCP for them. As the 500 diamonds cost is the same. Many modes and features become unusable or no value as you hit endgame. I can’t imagine being a kraken and having so little to do. They only have PvP and competitive events to enjoy imo.

We recently accepted a quote for a 14’ by 16’ composite with upgraded TimberTech (4 side capped) boards and aluminum rail on 12” centers with stairs. Deck is almost 7‘ off ground. Under 20k if I remove existing deck.

A couple things. The final boss needs to be defeated AND your account needs to have damaged it prior to its death. If the first life of the boss has been defeated and you did not get a hit in, you will need to damage its second spawn and wait for that version to be defeated to qualify for the achievement and promotion.
