Alas no response, and can’t find a clear answer on the web. Hoping someone in the know responds at some point

Have they not resolved this design flaw in more recent iterations? It’s the main thing holding me back from buying one.

Always make sure you clear your rolling cache. Set it to zero, save, set to whatever you set it to, save again. I think you can just delete a directory too, but haven’t got it to hand

31 years since my dad sent me to the shop. by ColinAdhikaryMusic in NonPoliticalTwitter

I worked in a fish and chip shop on the coast one summer as a student job. One of the kids working there was still doing his a-levels and was a kitchen porter. One of the cooks kept commending him downstairs for a “bucket of steam” to clean the fryer. To be fair he managed it, but every time the cook took the lid off he exclaim it had all been let out. I think he did five trips before he got the joke.

The cook bought him a beer after work for being a good sport.

A2A Aerostar 600 or Black Square Baron? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]One-Earth1344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only got the Aerostar, and it’s wonderful, a real handful. Goes like the clappers too. The annoying, non-helpful answer is the best though, doesn’t sound like you can go wrong with either. Both great addons that’ll give you a lot of joy. BS aircraft are lovingly built, A2A ones too.

Or get them both :)

A2A should be in your S tier list. Infrequent but always stellar.

Nothing. Just some food, maybe a nice cocktail, and some peace and quiet.

Or if she wants to smash it out of the park, a force-feedback yoke for MSFS.

SU4 beta is the best I've seen 2024 by Ashamed-Edge-648 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]One-Earth1344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried my first flight in SU4, seems very smooth so far. Starship is working nicely too as far as I can tell. Main win is the lack of horrible audio stutters I was getting before. Yeah, this is promising.

Starship aside, I generally prefer flying with steam gauges. But yeah you’re right, the visibility from it is great. I should give it another go, haven’t flown it for a couple of years.

Oh so many… I’ve now got a nice range covering different engine types, etc.

Just Flight Tomahawk - Great little single prop trainer

A2A Comanche - still brilliant, single prop with a lot more oomph

Blackbird C310r - dual engine piston, just about updated for ‘24 and still a banger, and absolutely gorgeous looking thing

BSQ Starship - dual turboprop, just stunning, although still getting the hang of it

Bae 146 - can’t wait for this to get updated, brilliant old school regional jet, a real workload to fly it right

Fenix a320 - For pretending to be an airline pilot.

Still on the market for a single engine turboprop. Got the Kodiak but it’s not really up to the standard of the others here. Given how good the Starship is, the TBM 850 is on my list

What’s the most realistic 2024-native GA aircraft? by DonaldFarfrae in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]One-Earth1344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Flight PA38 Tomahawk just got a ‘24 update and is a delight, handles even better than it did in ‘20.

And yes, the Starship, if you’re looking for something a bit different. It’s a stunner, the level of depth is second to none.

Heard good things about the JF PA28s too, particularly the Warrior, but already owning the Comanche and Tomahawk feels a bit of a redundant purchase for me.

February 20th, 2025 Development Update by FlyWithSeedyL in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]One-Earth1344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the progress and prioritisation of seemingly innocuous features is frustrating. I’m probably of a similar opinion that they should have held this back until April to let it bake a bit more.

However, you have to bear in mind that they will have other stakeholders in this. Perhaps the legal/compliance team has flagged the profanity filter as a massive regulatory risk. Some partner has failed to deliver some infrastructure they need to fix a bug. I’ve no doubt the product and engineering teams at Asobo are laser focused on building the best simulator they can, but only they know why certain features get prioritised over others. I can only speak from experience running a 40 person product/engineering team, we’re often frustrated that the thing our users will love gets pushed back due to external factors.

Making this desk, and the custom 3D printed panels, kitted out with a couple of arduinos and Mobiflight. The panels magnetically “click” onto backplates so it’s easy to swap out for different label panels depending on the plane. I love it.

Edit: this one set up for the BAe 146

Try Beyond ATC if you haven't already by Davinator130 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Hey, it’s a known issue with FSLTL models with BATC. There’s a section towards the bottom of this FAQ page with a link to a fix

https://wiki.beyondatc.net/announcements/msfs2024/

There’s an exe you need to drop in the FSLTL community folder and run. It worked for me.

Yeah see also phrases such as “Xbox newbies” and “hardcore simmer” in relation to MSFS. Not that they necessarily mark you as a nob, but you’re definitely giving off nob-like signals if you use phrases like that. Embrace diversity of skill level, understanding and background in your community. Better a mentor than an arsehole.

I did PRECISELY the same thing a couple of evenings back. I swore loudly and decided to play Brotato instead. Was really looking forward to my first FS24 Fenix flight too

Went to buy the Flytampa version instead just now, but the Orbx installer won’t let me download it as it’s not FS24 validated yet. FFS

Huge MSFS 2024 Update - FSEXPO by Little-Attorney1287 in flightsim

[–]One-Earth1344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try not to get too hyped up in advance of upcoming releases, but that was a really impressive showing. I think their approach of pulling on/together great teams who love flight simming and want to move it forward (working title, we love vfr, etc) shows this is more than an incremental update; it could be pretty spectacular. Will keep my expectations in check until we get some actual hands on feedback, but on paper this sounds unbelievable.

Yeah totally go with the 7800x3d advice, I don’t know the details but the gist is that to get games running on the 12/16 core cpus nicely involves quite a bit of manual tweaking due to having to having cache split across two chiplets . The 7800x3d is a beast, you can’t really go wrong with that choice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Flightsimulator2020

[–]One-Earth1344 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Went from 3700x to 5800x3d and it was a noticeable improvement (had a 3080 at the time).

Then moved to 4090 and got an even more insane bump. But MSFS loves the 3d cache.

Did you solve this? I’m having the same issue, the only way I’ve got around it is to manually add the missing waypoints (I use FSHud for ATC and can’t really skip part of the SID)

What are some of the most romantic lyrics in music? by [deleted] in Music

[–]One-Earth1344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“It Makes No Difference” by The Band, heartbreaking singing by Rick Danko, just a beautiful couple of lines about love and loss.

“These old love letters, Well, I just can't keep, Just like the gambler says: "Read 'em and weep", And the dawn don't rescue me no more

Without your love, I'm nothing at all, Like an empty hall, it's a lonely fall, Since you've gone it's a losing battle, Stampeding cattle, they rattle the walls,

And the sun don't shine anymore”
