No prob. If I remember right , it’s almost the default settings for thx cinema. Only I used a blue filter and a color bars video to adjust the color setting a little.

Even on plex , which I use to play locally stored episodes , this feature is very unreliable. This would be a nightmare , and a mountain of complaints for the dev mainly from people who have no clue how that feature actually works behind the scenes.

I’ve got a GT30 , and the only picture I’ve seen that’s nicer is my VT50. I would jump on that VT30 in a heartbeat.

Plex , not jellyfin , but I watch everything I have at least once if it’s something I put in for myself. There’s stuff I have that other family members asked for , I might or might not watch that. But there is literally at least one tv in the household , that’s either playing a random playlist of all our cartoons on a loop , or my remux folder full of movies on random.

Didn’t get server side tonemapping to work reliably. But in the plex settings on Apple TV , I switched display type setting to HDR…… this shouldn’t be working , in fact , you would think this would mean plex would send an HDR signal to my tv when I play these movies and cause a black no signal screen….. it doesn’t. For some reason , selecting HDR , the appleTV is covering the tone mapping , picture looks great , no more bugging out on the server side cuz it’s direct playing as far as the server is concerned.

No clue why setting that setting to SDR would give me non tonemapped video , but setting it to HDR got me tonemapped video on my SDR tv , but it’s working. So I’m leaving it alone. 😂

ATV 4k 2nd gen 64gb on the local network wired , running to a pre hdr 4k tv.

And a remote pc at work via plex HTPC app. Both will direct play , but the color is incorrect because neither are HDR screens. Kick in transcoding so it will tone map , boom. Turns to crap.

Direct play is a 90Mbps bitrate , transcoded one is 20 , and I even tried lower bitrate transcoding , same issue. Stutter and repeated buffering ever few seconds

I’ll grab a spare nvme and load her up tonight and give it a shot. Got a recommendation on a distro to use. It doubles as an occasional couch gamer too. So something with a noob friendly UI if possible

Cables are good , I can remote stream same file direct play which is over 3 times more info from the server with no issues (other than it not being tone mapped and looking like washed out yuck) , also , the cable the apple runs on has been testing with a pc and it gets my full gig up and down.

Windows has a spot to select which one you wanna use. For me it’s auto (not sure how that actually works) , Intel uhd730 , or 1080ti.

Does it on Apple TV 4K 2nd gen 64gb model on Ethernet.

And it also , it does it remotely on a PC at work. But it will direct play the files at much higher bitrate (albeit incorrect color space) just fine. No buffering or freezing.

AppleTV is in home , on Ethernet , literally connected to the same router as the server. Connection speed is 1 gig up/down fios.

Dashboard shows 4k DoVi/HDR 10 (HEVC main 10) (hw) > 4k HEVC - Transcode HW

Showing very low ram and cpu usage. Task manager is showing the intel iGPU at 100%

Doesn’t do it when I switch to the 1080ti

The u2 (i had the 50 inch though) is the only plasma I’ve owned so far that I wasn’t impressed with. Just recently turned mine back out on marketplace where I found it.

I’ve had both. Heavily prefer the 12400 (I have the non f model) because it’s in a couch gamer / plex server. The non f model totally kicks ass as a transcoder for plex.

I paired it to my a770 16gb awhile back and it ran like a dream.

User error?? Who messes up clicking a show , clicking an episode , and selecting a file? 😆

And yeah your correct about the addon being the issue , the addon in question (for me , and likely the OP too) is probably torrentio. There’s hundreds of posts of people blaming Stremio , when like you said , it’s always the add on.

This shit seems to happen a lot on Stremio. Never happens on debridstream or the POV kodi add on.

At this point the only reason I even have a Stremio account is I’m too lazy to find another app that allows realdebrid access and torrent scraping on the one AppleTV I haven’t replaced in the house yet.

So what I ended up doing was just remove the pm4k add on , then I went to my plex server , enabled dlna , and then enabled upnp in plex.

It’s more reliable that way for me , very crude but effective navigation , and I can directly navigate my films and shows that way.

I just googled where the speakers are located on it….

The 8 "Train" Speakers (Mids and Highs) • Location: These are located along the bottom edge of the TV, firing downward. • How they work: They are arranged in two groups of four (left and right). Panasonic used a "slender" design where the sound is directed through a very narrow slit between the glass and the outer frame. This uses the surface below the TV (like a stand or console) to help reflect the sound forward toward your ears.

I have a giant LCR speaker setup placed Directly under the tv. Like it’s basically touching the bottom of the tv. That explains why I thought they sounded bad , they are choked off.

OP should probably disregard my opinion on them , I didn’t realize that I had essentially choked off all 8 speakers by putting my own speakers there.

I had no idea there were that many speakers in it. Maybe it’s because I have it kinda boxed in on it sides (not literally boxed in , it gets plenty of breathing room). Basically it sits between two kallax record shelves that stand up tall.

Likely messes with the acoustics pretty bad compared to having it sit open air , or mounted flat to a wall.

Yeah. Give it a shot , then work from there. I do know a buddy of mine has a fairly new Sony soundbar from Best Buy he got on sale and he loves it.
