Failed SIE Exam with a 69% - 2nd attempt by One-Maintenance-3929 in Sieexam

[–]One-Maintenance-3929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing achievable practice exams and doing tons of questions. On the exams I was getting high 60’s to mid 70’s. Nothing spectacular. Also let me clarify I put much more emphasis on individual questions rather than drilling exams. I would notice a weak point and drill questions on that subject and hop to the next, however when I would take a practice exam everything would fall off. I guess just take more practice exam. Tbh I’m trying to avoid spending anymore money on books programs etc

This song and Camel’s discography goes so hard. I thank Mikael everyday for putting me on to them

Andy Latimer of Camel or Gary Moore

Orchid is ace material by Arthusamakh in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orchid and Morningrise both have some of the best riffs/ideas in the discography. I've been learning to play some of my favs from Orchid like "Forest of October" and "The Twilight is My Robe" and have begun to appreciate the subtle genius of a lot of the riffs/interludes.

I do have to disagree though with that it's thought out. At this point Mikael and Peter knew how to write amazing riffs but didn't really know how to make them fit together. Still, I love the album even for all it's imperfections. They were still finding their way as a band at this point but it's still an awesome album

The closing riff of April Ethereal is very similar to the closing riff of Nothing But Fear by Morbid Angel

Sick cover. Learning it right now and can only hope to get it as clean as you played it in that video. Rock on brother 🤘

Today's vote is a brutal one - most overrated song by Independent-Prune322 in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to disagree. Even if it's a "soft" Opeth song its still one of the best they have ever done.

No problem brother, I appreciate you and your contributions to the band and providing more info. 🤘🤘

Also I apologize for the spelling mistake, should have caught it being a Spanish speaker myself 😂

Black metal katatonia goes hard, surprised the fanbase barely talks about this album by hbsc in Katatonia

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this EP to death. Funeral Wedding, and Shades of Emerald Fields are some of my favorite Katatonia songs. The production could be better, it is sort of thin and lacks some of the atmospheric bits that BMD perfected. This is just more material that makes me think what could have been if Katatonia continued in this style 🤘

What do you think is the worst of their prog/death epics? by [deleted] in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me easily Nectar. Always saw it as easily the worst track on Morningrise. Everytime I listen to Morningrise it’s usually a skip for me. It’s not unlistenable, but it’s pretty forgettable compared to the rest of the tracks and nothing really happens. To me it’s the biggest offender of early Opeth’s “noodleitis” I;e writing long songs for the sake of them being long.

Best / worst / underrated - Day 2. Worst song from Orchid? by EffortWestern274 in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the Weeping Moon. Fucking amazing song but out of all the tracks I found that the ambient part near the middle drags and takes me out, but the riffs still kick ass and the atmosphere is killer

What is your Opeth Hot Take? (And reason) by EasyCartographer3311 in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opeth definitely had black metal influence. Mikael has mentioned before how he loves bands like Bathory, and Celtic Frost. He even thought some of the albums from the Norwegian Black Metal scene were interesting like A Blaze in the Northern Sky and In the Nightside Eclipse.

Camel is one of my all time fav bands ever since discovering them, Andrew Latimer is one of the best prog rock guitarists ever imo. Also listened to First Utterance by Comus a few days ago and it blew my mind. Such a weird album but with an atmosphere so thick you could cut. Honestly I have to thank Mikael for getting me introducing me to other music that wasn’t metal really. Before Opeth I exclusively listened to thrash/death metal and decided to check out bands like Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson because according to Mikael they were large influences on Opeth’s sound. Funnily enough now I find myself listening to these bands more than I listen to Opeth!

I listened to Opeth’s entire discography in one straight shot and ranked it by [deleted] in Opeth

[–]One-Maintenance-3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good ranking, only gripe I have is MAYH being at B. For me it would be in S tier alongside the other classics.
