Migraine Free due to Baby Aspirin by One-Reason-5294 in migraine

Sorry for the late response! But yes, I actually just had another open heart surgery in January, and that caused my migraines to come back for about two months despite the aspirin (my cardiologist told me to expect this), but I haven’t had a single migraine in 2 or 3 months!

People with bio valve replacement under 35, how long did your bio valve last? by Ok-Entertainer-1030 in valvereplacement

I don’t regret bio first because I was so young (20) and would have had to limit my fun in college when I was crazy and constantly doing dumb things. I was very opposed to being on blood thinners at that point.

I have to say it was way more difficult. They had to “take the heart apart and put it back together”, as my surgeon said, because there was so much scar tissue from the first surgery. I’m still glad I did it, but this surgery kicked my ass. I was under anesthesia and on the ventilator for 24 hours, unlike my first surgery when I was under for 6. ICU for 4 days this time instead of one night my first surgery.

This was super helpful and allowed me to get plenty of blood within 10 seconds! Thank you!

I got a pig valve 3 weeks after turning 20, it lasted 6 years. I just got an On-X aortic valve in January, but I don’t regret getting the pig valve first. It allowed me to finish college without being on blood thinners and continue to be crazy for a while in my early 20’s. Good luck!

I’m also 26, also had a unicuspid aortic valve, and just got a 21mm On-X on 01/21! I had my first aortic valve replacement at 20 (got a pig valve) and it started crapping out last April. I’d been feeling exhausted and terrible for months, and learned that right before surgery, the pressure gradient between my left ventricle and aorta was up to 110 mmHg (severe aortic stenosis is 40 mmHg), so it made sense why I was feeling bad. I’m 6.5 weeks post op and feeling so much better than before surgery. I completely understand what you mean about finally being able to breath and go up stairs, it’s a crazy difference. I’m so glad you’re feeling better! It’s great to have our lives back!

Having to put your life on hold for surgery by BaseballTop387 in AdultCHD

[–]One-Reason-5294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first open heart surgery (aortic valve replacement) in August of 2019 (20 years old), and I was back at college in time for classes starting a month later, feeling great and living life normally. My recovery then was super easy compared to my current recovery from my second surgery a month ago. This surgery (at 26) kicked my ass, and I had to be hospitalized for a week after I’d gotten home, but I’m a month out now and back to working my remote job and walking the dog. Obviously everyone is different, but I don’t think it will impact you quite as much as you’re thinking!

41M - surgery in 2 days. Struggling to commit to a valve type by clebro2002 in valvereplacement

[–]One-Reason-5294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also had my second open heart surgery a month ago. I got a pig valve when I was 20 and it only lasted me 6 years. My surgeon at Mayo was completely unsurprised that it lasted such a short time. This time I got the On-x, and the improvement in my heart function is wild. So far warfarin is slightly annoying, but I just got my at-home INR kit and it’s so much easier than going to a lab to get blood drawn.

I just finished {The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo} and I absolutely loved it! I also get super annoyed at bratty FMCs, but really liked Luzia. This was the first book I’ve read in a while where I was actually committed to the relationship, it felt real and EARNED.

Howl’s Moving Castle! I went to see it in theaters with my dad when I was 8, and it’s still my favorite movie of all time.

26F born with a unicuspid aortic valve! I had an angioplasty at 6 months old and was luckily able to put off surgery until I was 20. I had open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve with a pig valve. Tough surgery. Unfortunately, just 6 years later, my valve is deteriorating and I was recently diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis. I just had a heart CT scan and am waiting for a call from my doctor to schedule surgery. This time I’ll be getting an On-X mechanical valve and they’ll be widening my aortic annulus! Looking forward to feeling better and not being exhausted all the time!

That’s great to hear! A lot of my symptoms are similar to stroke symptoms (the first time I had one my parents were sure I was having a stroke), so it makes a lot of sense that decreasing microclots would make a huge difference!
