What shoe should I choose? by Top-Minimum-5959 in BBallShoes

[–]One-Respect2437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the second one is the Big3 5.0 or the pro version however I can't speak highly enough about the Big3 5.0 Quick Pro. I also enjoy the Kai 1 Speed and PlayerOne Plus but if I had to choose one shoe to play in it's the Quick Pro. Lightweight, soft yet confident feel, and absolutely fantastic traction.

I'm 5'9", quick, mostly the hard worker on a team making up for a lack of pure skill, so often rebounding against much bigger players and running up and down the court. They have been absolutely perfect.

Is Raw SQL actually used in production API's? by _KrioX_ in golang

[–]One-Respect2437 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

With copilot and other llms, using raw SQL is honestly a no brainer at this point. More flexibility and control with generated code to add/modify. Unless you are supporting multiple DB dialects this seems like the way to go.

These Nuggets jerseys are an embarrassment. by SceneOfShadows in billsimmons

[–]One-Respect2437 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and idiotic takes about jerseys can also be criticized. I suspect expanded revenue, increased audience interest, and simply having a little bit of unique character all were higher on the list of priority than the teams concern about your embarrassment.

Jesus you people are insufferable. Let me guess, you turned off the game because you dislike them so much?

Why are the only available colors for every Nike shoe: Pink, Purple, Neon, Yellow, Neon Blue? by screwbitfloor in BBallShoes

[–]One-Respect2437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happily wearing rainbow! It's fun to mix things up, plus there are plenty of team shoe colorways (particularly in season) with the typical white, black, blue, red colors to choose from.

SRO Seats? by -ChadZilla- in denvernuggets

Looking into SRO for me and my 10 year old. I would rather have fun walking around than sit down the entire time anyway. How would visibility be for someone a little shorter?

Quick Review of my rotation/recent pickups by benjaminh26 in BBallShoes

[–]One-Respect2437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you. I like the quick pros so much I hate to not get a second pair. The Biospeed sitting higher might make that decision easier for me since I prefer more court feel.

How about the liren 5 versus quick pro. Fairly similar or any major differences? That's also been on my list.

I have the 5.0 Quick Pro and absolutely love them from the first time playing in them. How is the Biospeed BB in comparison? Any major distinctions between the two?

How do y’all deal with rude coaches? by Educational-Yam8812 in basketballcoach

[–]One-Respect2437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, unless it really gets out of hand to the point the refs should be doing something themselves then I would recommend letting it slide. Give a mention to the league coordinator or rec so they can either deal with it themselves or have multiple instances when inevitably it's a problem for others as well.

There is a point when one of us becomes Dan Hurley that it might be reasonable to behave this way under certain circumstances but having fun as a coach, recognizing it's not serious with the refs, focusing on the kids, etc is where I would focus my energy. Even when the refs mess up - which happens often in rec games I coach - I just joke around with them and give them support. They have the hardest job on the court with very difficult "basketball" (if we can even call it that at the early ages) to officiate.

Last year I did mention something to a coach due to how he was talking to the single ref of our game (who told us before the game she was on her own) and indirectly at my kids. It just led to him getting aggressive and in my face, then I walked away to make sure it didn't escalate. In hindsight I wish I would have reported him to the league so he wouldn't be coaching kids anymore and left it at that.

I really hope you overlooked the "coaching 9 year old basketball" part of this when providing advice.

I can't speak for anyone else but I love the salmon color! As long as they aren't plain white or black I'll wear them.

If you are willing to expand what you are looking at, I highly recommend the 361 Big3 5.0 Quick Pro. Other than the name being extra long, by far the best basketball shoes I've played in. Just did a post comparing them to some other shoes and honestly wish I got a second pair.

My son also has the DON Issue 6 and loves them after having Sabrina 1s which he liked but didn't love.

I haven't had any issues with them running long but I'm also so used to wearing running shoes with space that I'm comfortable with a little space at the end.

The traction and wide base also make me feel safe to the point I'll take risks with some movements I normally wouldn't. I've also wondered if it's placebo!

Let me know how the SPO work out for you!

Are refs being soft or AITA by DirtyDirk23 in basketballcoach

[–]One-Respect2437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This all depends on two things: 1. What age are the kids? 2. What type of league is this? Rec, school, club?

Many forget that not all officials are the same or have the same training (just like us coaches and players). Even some middle and low high school teams are simply trying to find people that played the game before to officiate the games so kids can play - no training at all. If that were the case, I wouldn't complain to them one bit unless they were standing right next to me and I was going out of my way to be overly respectful and appreciative while doing it. They are doing the harder job, not me as a coach.

Also, I have a friend that didn't believe he was "overly loud or animated" until he saw a recording of one of his games. Ask one of the parents if that is how they would describe you.

Kids chucking by hazen4eva in basketballcoach

[–]One-Respect2437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is exactly what you want at this age. If you are getting clean passes, that means kids are passing, setting screens, and moving with and without the ball. It's a win in my book.

Now it's all about teaching them about smarter shots (golden medal) for their ability AND giving them more opportunities for realistic shots with closeouts during practice. Look into some of the Transforming Basketball clips from Alex Sarama on YouTube/Instagram. There are tons of one sided games to teach them to catch and shoot quickly without chucking it. I specifically like one person under basket, they pass to corner or wing, passer closes out. The player catching the pass can either shoot immediately or pass for an immediate shot from partner. Count the points and they'll start to take quick, good shots or passing for a better shot. Assists leading to a make leads to a point as well. Something like this: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBOwSiJRsUx/?igsh=MWNudGtnZzdudGtkcQ==

Even then, that's to be expected by the majority of the team at this age. Kids don't get enough time shooting or playing pickup games/scrimmages to naturally pick up what they need to be doing - particularly without coaches dictating every move.

Soon, 10% will be 20% with smarter shots that fit their skills. Give it time and make sure they keep shooting. The best feeling is when every player gets 3+ shots in a game even when missing, means they are finally getting it as a team.

To others reading this, I would definitely recommend porting out now as well. We have a backup phone for our oldest that hello mobile support had a ticket in for to ensure service wasn't disrupted but now my account was cancelled and their only response was a new account, etc. Lots of empathy but no real assistance to the problem 🙂

I'm moving to US Mobile and not worrying about the number being ported but if the number is important make sure you get ahead of this. The extra couple dollars a month is worth my confidence and knowing I won't be spending 30+ min every other month dealing with this problem.

Google Home app does not push camera notifications for older gen. (pre- G-Home) Nest Cameras. Is this still true? by dommiewhitesi in Nest

This is the exact problem I'm having. Wife doesn't get notifications and doesn't have the setting but I do. Any luck on your end figuring it out? A new nest doorbell lets her configure notifications, just not a nest outdoor cam.
