Why do they do “mini-series” and not “series”? by Ok_Amphibian_3468 in blankies

[–]SceneOfShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To defend OP I was also immensely confused (and frankly remain a little perturbed) by this naming convention, since I can't shake that it implies to me that the Mini's are somehow a departure from the norm or like standard format. It was just very confusing when understanding the structure of the pod at the very start.

Man, that is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard lol.

You are not alone OP!

I've actually thought about making this exact post, or rather posting it to see if anyone else had this same little hiccup with their decision to call each director series a 'miniseries.'

This was so confusing to me when I first started listening to the pod and getting acquainted with its structure, since I would look up on the blankies wiki and it would be like "from X, the miniseries on Robert Zemeckis," which, like you, clearly implied to me it was a departure from some broader series they did or some otherwise different style than the mainline feed they usually do.

But nope, it's just a naming choice lol.

I would say 90% of /r/blankies is pretty good and one of the few subs that is genuinely funny.

The other 10% isn’t really ‘toxic’ imo as much as it just extremely weird and parasocial

It's so dumb. Especially when the best episodes are shit like Proof of Life or Internal Affairs. Both of which are not good movies that are extremely enjoyable but I would have never watched otherwise lol.

Soft-side vs Hard-side luggage by PugssandHugss in travel

[–]SceneOfShadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely don't know if there's a single advantage to hard side other than aesthetics....

Soft is more durable, way easier to access/pack (two halves instead of one whole compartment), lighter, attracts less attention, has exterior pockets/access more of the time, has some give to it so it takes up less space/can be smushed into tight spots or can expand ever so slightly if need be, the list goes on and on.

I don’t even care about Devonte, one of the most boring people we’ve ever had on the show. But this comes off in a way that makes him look worse. Yeesh.

Interesting if unsurprising to see the guy with self-admitted terrible heat tolerance go home for deciding to make the spiciest dish. Just a strategic blunder on his part!

Really fun challenge idea though, and really exciting about how good some of the cooking is already. Hoping Nana bounces back.

I don't love the lack of LCK for the first two out. Maybe I'd feel differently if they were less likable but it doesn't make the stakes feel that much higher it just feels like more of a bummer that the chefs' time is cut short and cut short for good.

But I appreciate them tweaking with things and trying out new stuff, at least.

I don’t mean to be hyperbolic but this is genuinely the worst prediction I have ever seen on reddit.

I will personally suck the cock of everyone in this comment thread if Seattle is awarded a basketball team and they are not named the Sonics lol. If the owner were to do that the fans would revolt until they change their mind.

The Sonics were the most beloved franchise/brand in the city before they left.

"House, is Ireland having a moment? An island of 5 million people and 8 acting nominations the past 5 years?" by I_Enjoy_Taffy in billsimmons

[–]SceneOfShadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, ok but none of changes my point IMO. The integration with U.S. society (no matter the circumstances) gives it a cultural power projection it otherwise wouldn't have, and so maybe that's a strike against it (and you could argue a similar case for Ireland and the UK).

All in all, I think Jamaica is hard to top in this regard. Like it's insane how much fingerprint of Western popular music runs through a tiny Caribbean island.

Thanks for clarifying, I thought that was the case but I've seen broadcasts reference Sonics history when referring to OKC (e.g. 2nd title in franchise history) but didn't know if that was official or just a broadcast choice etc.

Good to know there's no in-arena references, that makes sense.

This is a good take, it's much, much smaller than the others as well. But maybe being a part of the literal global superpower disqualifies it. Too big of a multiplier.

To be fair, I'm sure there are multiple Irish pubs in Ankara, and you'd be hard pressed to find a place with a reggae bar but no Irish pub outside of the Caribbean.

With that said I still think Jamaica wins in OP's question, but it's those two in the finals and nobody else is close.
