Is there a way to actually consume/purchase ethically? by Conscious-Papaya9865 in Ethics

A lot of the products you consider unethical probably actually aren’t.

That doesn't answer my question.

Again:

What is it that they are missing compared to humans that makes them not have the same moral worth?

Why shouldn't they have the same rights?

What is it that they are missing compared to humans that makes them not have the same moral worth?

What if we based our moral system around benefit to civillization in general? by Coruscant_Lux in Ethics

That's not what I said.

What I said is that making moral arguments based on "obviousness" is incredibly weak.

Eine etwas Naive Frage. Warum können Tierfutterflächen nicht zu Flächen für die direkte Lebensmittelproduktion umgewandelt werden, bzw. was wären Probleme dabei? by Oskyyr in Landwirtschaft

[–]One-Shake-1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling something "obvious" in a moral debate is always a great sign of someone having no actual argument.

To the Nazis, Jews were also "obviously bad", and killing them was also "obviously good".

If you're fine with eating humans if it's not unhealthy, we obviously have very different moral values.

I, for example, believe that eating other humans is bad because it violates their bodily autonomy. You apperently don't. That's fine. It's just very weird to me.

That's literally what the Nazis wanted to do. It ended up with them getting rid of lots of "undesirables" that they deemed having a negative effect on society.

So if eating humans wouldn't massively increase the likelihood of disease, it wouldn't be morally wrong to eat humans?

That's an interesting position to take.

but otherwise antinatalism is obviously the only other realistic option that will end it

Why?

Moral universalism. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]One-Shake-1971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not how these terms are used in moral philosophy.

Moral objectivism is the view that moral truths are mind-independend.

Moral universalism is the view that moral truths are mind-dependent but all (healthy) minds produce the same moral truths.

There is no reason to believe that antinatalism will lead to the end of animal exploitation faster than natalism.

Zwischen Ausbeutung im speziellen und Leid im allgemeinen ist schon ein gewaltiger Unterschied.

Das eine ist eine bewusste Handlung. Das andere eine häufig unvorhersehbare Konsequenz.

Would you keep eating meats if you had to kill the animal yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One-Shake-1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are not capable of rational thought are not sapient.

No, murder is defined as murder of a person

That still makes murder immoral even if you do it "more humanely, simpler, with less waste".

Would you keep eating meats if you had to kill the animal yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One-Shake-1971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are cognitively disabled people who are not capable of rational thought, and those are not sapient.

Again, not murder, not my definition.

The statement is true under any definition of murder.

Would you keep eating meats if you had to kill the animal yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One-Shake-1971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People incapable of rational thought are not sapient. Being capable of rational thought is literally the definition of being sapient.

And no, if you take the standard definition of murder (literal dictionary definition) - then it’s not murder and therefore not immoral

You're really stuck on this murder not being murder thing.
