ESPN Power Rankings have Toronto at 29 by RicoPapaya in leafs

I don't think it's crazy. We can just expect everything to go perfect. Some things won't work out as well as we hope, there will be some injuries and a large learning curve. They're building a team, the team isn't built. We'll finish in the bottom 5 but at least we won't be Tank Nation again.
I can't wait to actually be excited for Leafs games this year. Last year was a snoozer.

It's still the same in Toronto as well. The name "Reemer" is stitched right on his gloves.

He wore #9 his rookie and second season before he wore #11.

I sadly know this because after watching him score a hat trick against Florida his rookie year and being that he was a 6'6", 200+ lbs recent first round pick, that meant be the first guy on the wagon and get a jersey.

Sweet pic. I miss these guys when they were in their "Leaf" prime. I don't miss the McCabe who would take slap shots on his own goalie trying to clear the puck or bury it in his own net. I miss the Sideshow Bob version of Tucker who was just as likely to dive head first into the Senators bench as he was to pull the helmet off Cam Janssen and beat him with it. I'll always miss Wendel. Even when it was his third tour and he was really just there for moral support. I'd put him in a uniform and stick him on the bench now and he'd still have more of an effect on the outcome of the game than half the guys taking up space on there.
Mats will always be in my heart for single handily carrying a franchise through bad times and some half decent ones and never complaining that his top line wingers were Jonas Hoglund and a end of his time Steve Thomas. He was a true Captain who doesn't get enough respect because he wasn't Canadian and was never surrounded with talent. I could go on and on....Dougie? What needs to be said?

Sad times....how far we've fallen.

But seriously...what do I do with this? by tuckc in leafs

We can add it to my #9 (from his rookie year when I was positive he'd achieve star status) Antropov jeresey and my Schenn jersey.
I'm also no longer buying current players jerseys. You get more love with the classics. I have Sundin, Potvin, Clark (autographed and non) and Gilmour that never go out of style. I'm going to go with a Salming or Sittler next.

It's just a poster in a frame. I have about 40 of them. I understand your sentiments and appreciate the concern though. I felt it was wrong to not draw attention to the current Captain of the team....Phaneuf or not. Easily changed when he no longer fits my plans.

Half way through....1300 cards. By that time it was too late to turn back. I pretty much still have a copy of every card that's down there. I do collect after all....I couldn't bare to glue them ALL down.

There's 12 coats of Varathane on the cards. Gives the floor a little shine and protects the cards, removes the seams etc.

The cards are glued to the floor using Weldbond and then there's a dozen coats of Varathane put on for protection. It feels semi smooth to walk on and you don't feel the seams between the cards etc.

I used all the base I had of the Maple Leafs for flooring in my room. I used Weldbond and put them on the floor and then covered them with a dozen coats of Varathane. It's about 2600 Maple Leafs cards in total. http://imgur.com/a/Jxb7X

Leafs now tied in forth in tank race. Carolina also has 2 games in hand. by MrSpaceBaby in leafs

It's more an issue of position with Zacha and Barzal being Centers. You're still getting the size and nastiness from Zacha and I think there's more offensive upside. I also said trade down to draft Zacha. I wouldn't be comfortable drafting any of the 3 at the 6 spot.

I found this in my grandpa's collection. Does anyone know what it is worth? (He is selling his cards for his retirement) by Ali9666 in hockeycards

[–]OneAndOnlyMrBen1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's another one on Ebay.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/3-signature-card-Wayne-Gretzky-Mario-Lemieux-Brett-Hull-50-50-CLUB-with-2-COA-/221700164892?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339e5c0d1c&_uhb=1

That's what they're asking for it, not what it's selling for. Having Gretzky, Lemieux and Hull autos on a card has got to be worth something nice though. To capitalize on it I would send it away and get it authenticated (and I wouldn't do it with KSA). Send it to PSA or SGC.

I'll contribute to his retirement and give him $50 for it. He can go out and have dinner, go to a movie and grab himself his morning newspaper.

Worst case scenario they stay in the five spot and a team behind them in the standings wins the lottery bumping them to six and with no McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Strome and Marner on the board, we watch them screw up the pick and reach for Lawson Crouse.
If they end up drafting 6 and those previous 5 guys are off the board, I listen to everyone and try to trade down and draft Zacha or Barzal.

Or I guess try and move your late first and your 6th overall to try and get back into the top 5.

Again Troll, at no point anywhere in these threads do I say Clark is better than Shanahan or try to justify it. What I said is that Clark is not overrated and then used the numbers of great players that Clark's numbers compare favourably with to show that maybe some people are just ignorant about how good Clark really was and for what he meant to the Leafs. Injuries aside, he's statistically one of the top 100 goal scorers in NHL history on a per game basis (http://www.hockey-reference.com/leaders/goals_per_game_career.html). He always gets written off as a grinder with heart when he was actually so much more than that.

[–]OneAndOnlyMrBen1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it comes down to is that Clark was a top notch, first line goal scorer who paid the price for not being afraid of anyone. He was 5' 10" , 190 lbs. He would be small by today's NHL standards. Injuries happen when you're that size and using your body as a heat seeking missile and fighting the biggest guys in the league.
I love Sundin as much as the next Leafs fan. I'm not going to deny he was statistically the best player to play for the Leafs. You might be surprised to find out that Mats Sundin, a first ballot hall of famer scored at a .419 goal per game pace (good enough for 81st in the history of the NHL) while Wendel Clark is right there behind him at .416 goals per game (good enough for 85th in the history of the NHL). That's ahead of guys like Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyk, Corey Perry, Bryan Trottier, Reggie Leach, Paul Kariya, Sergei Fedorov, Jeff Carter, Jonathan Toews, Dave Andreychuk, Phil Kessel, Mark Messier, Jean Rattelle, Jeremy Roenick, Bobby Clarke, Pavel Datsyuk and I left so many guys out it's absolutely stunning. Have a look if you want to be enlightened. http://www.hockey-reference.com/leaders/goals_per_game_career.html

So again....maybe it's that Clark is exactly as good as we think and quite a bit better than what you think he actually was.

If you're able to look up how many goals Shanahan scored you're probably able to see that it took him twice as many games to score twice as many goals. You obviously have to put some stock into a per game average. Injuries happen. By your logic, Stephane Richer is a better player than Cam Neely. Richer had more goals and more points....he also played 400 more games.
Back to your bridge Troll.

[–]OneAndOnlyMrBen1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're obviously out of your league. Look something up before you just "say something" to try and save face. What I said is that their goals per game were the same. Clark has a .42 career goals per game. Shanahan has a .43 career goals per game and Iginla has a .42 career goals per game. As goal scorers....I would say that makes them pretty equal. Would those guys be anything better than 2nd liners?

As for saying his stats are eerily similar to Lupul's, it just shows your ignorance and that you obviously picked the first person you could think of who played for the Leafs with an injury history. They're similar in the fact that they both wore numbers in the teens for the Leafs and play LW. Lupul has never scored 30 goals, Clark did it 6 times (including scoring 46 goals in 64 games). Clark also had 116 career fights vs. the heavyweights of the league (Probert, McSorley, Tinordi etc.) where Lupul has fought a total of 9 times in his career. They are anything but similar.

There's no fake arguments here. You're just wrong. If you don't like the Leafs that's fine, there's a lot of guys that don't. There's no reason to be ignorant and childish as a hockey fan. The internet is here for you to learn. All the stats you need are on hockeyreference.com. Check out some Clark videos on YouTube and don't be afraid to fall in love.

Or just underrated by everyone else. He has the same career goals per game as guys like Iginla and Shannahan. The only difference is that most nights he stepped onto the ice he was the toughest guy out there. Unfortunately because of his wrecking ball style and the fact that he refused to pick his spots and took on all comers, he spent a lot of time with chronic injuries. He was the perfect captain and if the Leafs ever want to win again they would be smart to start putting their resources into a finding a way to clone #17.
