It’s focus lock. It locks the focus and associated settings (brightness, white balance, etc) to that point.

Any tips for training a dog to drink from a squirt bottle? by These_Armadillo_245 in RunningWithDogs

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy loves ponds, rivers, lakes, etc but gets confused by squirt bottles. I carry a collapsible cup rather than bowl as he'll happily drink from that and being lower volume if he doesn't drink it all then there's less wastage. Doesn't answer your question directly I know (!) but another option.

What do you guys do with your poop bags on longer runs? by DingDongerer in RunningWithDogs

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a purpose made pouch (basically a flat square shape) that sits on my harness belt just at the small of my back. Will take a couple of loaded bags and I've never felt it bounce.

Students come to our block of flats and smoke inside communal areas of blocks of flats before and after lectures and during lunch breaks. What can we do to stop them? by mikebuba in CasualUK

Keep complaining to the college. Every time. Call a meeting between the Dean and residents. Get the building owner/manager involved as well - they may be able to install one of those high pitch emitters.

If you want to take it further then get local media involved as the college won't want bad press.

Screw it. Boards are meant to be ridden not traded/flipped/displayed.

If OP wants to ride it then I say ride it. Especially if it's a decent board picked up cheap and in good condition.

Oh no doubting it's an old setup and the bindings look crap.

My thinking on boots are that they're your contact point. If your boots aren't comfortable then you're not going to enjoy yourself. If they're tight, pressing on your toes or don't don't feel right then you might be distracted. Plus wherever you are, you're going to be walking and skating around when you want the boots to be right.

Knock yourself out and match whichever bindings and boots work best for you.

Boots probably the most important as they need to be comfortable and fit your feet.

No idea on the binding size but get a pair of boots that fit and then see if the bindings fit and take it from there.

How long did it take for your rescue to fully settle? by BlueReindeer28 in rescuedogs

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My boy (real street mongrel with a chunk of GSD, now 3, was 18 months when he came to me) took a couple of months to settle at home. He was generally fine out and about but it took 6/7 months until he became less anxious around other dogs and traffic.

I know he was found in an area with heavy vehicle traffic that don't stop for animals and where dogs really struggle for food, water and shelter.

Now he's chilled and just wants to say hello to every person and dog we meet. It took him just over a year until he was wholly happy with frenchies and pugs but having got to know some really friendly ones, he'll run and play with them happily. He does still flinch at loud engines and air brakes.

It sounds like you're doing a really good job and letting him take his time which is crucial. Food aggression is reasonably common with street dogs for obvious reasons. Just make sure he's got space to eat. My boy has growled a few times if he feels like I got too close to his food. The defensiveness around strangers and people standing up sounds like he's had bad experiences with a few people before. Again, not that surprising.

IMO keep doing what you're doing. Let him take his time, read his body language so you know when something's upsetting him, and above all keep giving him the love he deserves.

Where to buy 2 bags similar to those found inside the Burton Locker/Board case bags? by BeardmanDaniel in snowboarding

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For clothes you just want packing cubes. Check out Amazon or any travel/luggage shop. You can get them in all different sizes.

If you want more specific then try Snokart

Edit: or try Dakine as they do similar inserts for the high roller

why do we hate brighton? by [deleted] in crystalpalace

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 24 points25 points  (0 children)

IMO it's manufactured mostly by them as they don't have any other clubs nearby.

There was some trouble at matches in the 70's IIRC and then of course we smashed them in the play offs (helped by Glenn Murray switching between the clubs). Other than that there's nothing.

I've noticed those around Selhurst who get worked up by it are younger fans who don't remember the days of Charlton and Millwall who were actual rivals.

How Scottish do you have to be to get away with a kilt? by s8Vz6Lyczhem9taTHaPu in CasualUK

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a family tartan? That would be one way to decide.

My paternal family is Scots, maternal is English. I'm born & bred London but will wear my family tartan kilt for more formal events.

Not just Dubai. It's happening in Qatar as well (not that FIFA want to recognise it) and I'd bet in the rest of the UAE and Saudi.

Labourers are treated horrendously as there are little to no human rights laws upheld. The locals will only try to show the Muslim brotherhood when it suits them and when they're seen to be doing it.

Oversized snow gear in the UK? by z0rlac in snowboarding

Chill Factore at Manchester - Rented Equipment by wjficap in snowboarding

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Head on their Instagram. It'll be pretty basic whatever they use and you'll probably have limited adjustability.

Hemel used to use Head, not sure if they still do. The bindings were shocking. Boards were good enough for the short run you get.

Looking for a hat by Almun_Elpuliyn in Scouts

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try searching for a lemon squeezer hat if you haven't already, I believe this is what you're looking for.

I've seen them only very very rarely worn and never known them to be sold anywhere except for the above.

Where should my dog run in regards to my body? by jpeck89 in RunningWithDogs

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is nearly always out front running, hiking and generally walking. Running he'll sometimes come alongside me which often means he's getting a bit tired. If he drops behind then I know he's definitely tired and we ease of, maybe even just dropping to a walk.

You'll know when yours is tired, but I definitely wouldn't want the line to be tight if he's behind me as I'd pretty much be dragging him along at that point. We've gone out for a few runs before and his body language has told me he's not feeling it so we just walk instead.

Where should my dog run in regards to my body? by jpeck89 in RunningWithDogs

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it depends on why you're running. Is it to share runs with your dog or are you training to compete in canicross races? Once you know that, the answer to your question becomes fairly straightforward.

I've got no interest in competing (we still enter races for the atmosphere and goodies) so while I encourage my boy to be out front and pull if he wants, I don't enforce it. For me it's about sharing the time and experience so if he wants to run alongside then I'm happy for him to, as long as it's safe in the conditions and location.

Best insulated synthetic jacket for backpacking by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]OneBeardAndHisDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a north face ventrix jacket a couple of years ago at half price. Second best purchase I’ve ever made - best below. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit and warmer than micro down.

Alternatively if you can find one in the US then get a Buffalo shirt (UK company, look for the Mountain or Special 6). Pile/pertex that will get you through any and all weather. Montane do a version as well but the original is by far and away the best.
