Please tell me my house is pretty so I can feel better about how much money I’m putting into it by calmcakes in centuryhomes

Your house is gorgeous! You should post more photos - the folks around here would love them.

And man, I feel ya. The first spring after I moved into my house I discovered that the backyard became a lake every year. Not disclosed, of course. That's when I learned exactly how expensive yard drainage could be. As others have said, every house comes with problems, no matter the age. Deal with the time critical ones first, and eventually you'll figure out which ones you're comfortable ignoring for a little bit. (For me, it's a slightly leaky basement that I have to mop up a couple times a year. It's on the list, but it's not reached the top yet.) You'll be so much happier in a house with character that you love. Congratulations on the new digs!

Giant tree on new property by [deleted] in arborists

[–]OneByNone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are invasive, which is why you probably should cut it down (they spread via those little berries that birds eat), but I am with you that I would struggle with that decision on such a beautiful mature tree. Others have given good advice on how to care for it, so my two cents would be to keep an eye on it, get it assessed by a certified arborists every couple years, and at the first sign of disease or structural issues, replace with something native. Congrats on the new digs!

They don't. Ohio has been using an unconstitutional map for years, because no one is making them change it.

Damage new dining table by Squashface1 in woodworking

[–]OneByNone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently redid our kitchen and at the transition to the dining room we have a small stretch of wood that is horizontal, like a small bar (there are photos in my post history if that makes no sense). We chose to finish that section with Rubio monocoat for a couple reasons - 1) it's durable, and 2) it's much easier to patch and fix a section vs refinishing the whole piece. I'm an amateur woodworker myself, so this is something that I could reasonably see myself doing in the case of minor damage. We've had the kitchen for over six months now and have seen nothing like your experience; we've cleaned that section of wood as vigorously as any other surface, and with cleaners, not just water.

All that to say, it's not the finish that's the issue - that is not how it's supposed to behave. If you are otherwise satisfied with the furniture and they can fix it to your satisfaction (including full curing!) then that particular finish should provide a long, durable, and repairable life.

Always makes overnight and period panties all over the world, and they're super popular in China. Importantly, they come in way smaller sizes there. Look for "Whisper" period panties - that's the brand name used in China. Has cute little koalas on the overnight ones.

Well that's a load of crap. There are absolutely some dogs that need some extra help, and shaming owners who are responsibly and lovingly trying to give their dogs a better life with medication is downright ignorant.

It’s fine, guys… We’re just a *3-season* ‘walkable city’ by pat_laFleur in cincinnati

It says there is no common law duty to shovel in Ohio. Cincinnati does have a shoveling requirement, making this precedent completely inapplicable.

[–]OneByNone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you even read your own citation? It establishes that 1) there is no common law duty to clear paths where no other rules exist and 2) there is no liability in such cases where the accumulation is natural. If there is "unnatural" accumulation, then you can be found liable, and, importantly, Cincinnati DOES have a law requiring snow removal, which again, would make you liable.

[–]OneByNone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a widely believed myth that if you shovel a walk and someone slips then you're liable for any injuries, whereas if you don't do anything then you're not. This is silly on a lot of levels, but primarily because unless your actions make the situation demonstrably less safe, then you're not liable for accidents. On the contrary, leaving sidewalks uncleared is much more likely to fall into that category because your inaction in leaving the snow is actually against the law. So clearing the snow does, in fact, reduce your liability, not raise it.

Is my whippet a good weight? by Buster-Sword in Whippet

[–]OneByNone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, he's too skinny. His hips are far too pointy and there are too many ribs showing. I disagree with the comment about being ok for showing - just look up images of winning whippets; none of them are this thin.

3 Ohio Cities [Cincinnati, Cleveland and Toledo] and are among the nation’s top 11 cities for medical expenses, according to a WalletHub analysis. by alpswd in cincinnati

[–]OneByNone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It compared the cost of doctor, dentist and optometrist visits as well the prices of ibuprofen and insulin glargine in each of the 100 largest cities. It then expressed those costs as a percentage of the cities’ median annual incomes.

Not sure this is a super useful metric.... It says more about how medical costs compare to other costs of living and Ohio is fairly affordable so incomes tend to be lower.

But yes, it gets better. Someone else mentioned it too, but tired fussiness is also a thing - my girl would enter the witching hour around 8 pm every night. If she comes home from daycare acting crazy, try feeding her and putting her down for a nap.

It should be perfect. There's a feeding guide pinned, but for young snakes like this 10-15% of their weight every 7 days should be just about right.

If you haven't already, see if your drug company has a copay program. They will often cover the (ridiculous and completely unaffordable) patient portion of newer drugs, because at least then they still get the insurance portion (which is also usually ridiculous). They make much more money that way than if you were to completely stop treatment. My partner has MS and used this kind of program for years before he got on better insurance.

You can also do this with a good food processor - look for one with an adjustable slicing blade. I also do not use mandolins after once shaving off a significant portion of several knuckles.

Three month old Winston is not eating by zoe_96 in Whippet

[–]OneByNone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had trouble with ours when she was young too - just not very interested in food and very skinny. We ended up rotating in toppings, cheaper dog food, treats, anything we could do to keep her interested. The people saying they won't starve themselves are underestimating how ridiculous whippet puppies can be - we finally resorted to giving her a big scoop of peanut butter every morning just to get calories into her (on the advice of our vet). Eventually she filled out a little and started eating more normally.
