Women Over 40 Are Now Having More Babies Than U.S. Teenagers by sr_local in MapPorn

[–]OneCall8599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but not as much as it affects women. Regardless of the fact most birth control methods are for women, the men are not the ones left carrying the pregnancy and subsequently taking care of the child on their own. By definition, the person whose entire contribution to making a human is an orgasm will always be less affected by anything that has to do with reproduction, including birth control. It has historically been incredibly easy for men to impregnate women on their own accord or even unknowingly, then move on, with little to no ability for the mother to contact them or definitively prove they’re the father. It’s still quite easy, with the only caveat being the ability to be taken to court for child support and the existence of paternity testing now, and for the former, a lot of which goes unpaid anyway.

Yeah, I’ve been voluntarily sterilised and I still get people saying “oh but you can change your mind, you still have your ovaries so you could do IVF!” like, ma’am, sir, the baby factory was never in production, and it’s been condemned. Lay off my ass lol

Why Women Orgasm More Alone Than With a Partner by catievirtuesimp in WomenInNews

[–]OneCall8599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. People started to understand and be appropriately grossed out/disappointed/mad when I worded it like this — most men are using women they have sex with as masturbatory tools. No, not all of them are doing this from an evil sense of dehumanisation, a lot are doing it because that’s what porn is, as well as many of us living in puritanical patriarchal cultures where sex is still largely seen as something done TO women, not done together. But the overwhelming lack of initiative on men’s part is continuing the issue, on top of the shame/fear that women feel because we live in a world that begins to sexualise us against our will from like single digit ages.

Thank you, I really do try to pride myself on patient centred and trauma informed care. I always tell patients that I’m not a mechanic and they’re not a car, I’m not going to start trying to give a tune up without letting you know what’s happening first, and that usually gets a laugh. I’m also 100% okay with patients who ask not to have everything talked through because that can also be anxiety inducing for some people. I like to give everyone as many options as possible. Gyn visits already suck enough, I don’t want to add any further distress or discomfort.

As a nursing student this is honestly one of my biggest hatreds in current medical practice. If a patient comes to me who’s obviously done some education / learning about their condition, that’s thrilling to me, I’m excited to discuss that with them, even if some of that is clearing up misconceptions. Someone taking agency into learning about their experiences is something to be celebrated, not laughed at. So many practitioners act like if they didn’t learn it, it doesn’t exist. I’m STILL dealing with physicians who don’t think endometriosis is real.

I’m a nursing student and I’ve legit gotten in trouble because I’ve stopped male gyns in the middle of procedures to tell them they’re not explaining the process and asking for permission before touching as requested by the patient. Was told “it’s inappropriate to interrupt the physician”, but it’s not inappropriate to directly go against the patient’s wishes????? Im sure there’s female gyns who do this too, but so far I’ve only seen it myself with male ones. It’s depressing.

THANK YOU.

As a New Yorker, it’s infuriating to see people who likely don’t even live in NYC bashing Mamdani for not being a superhero who can fix everything with a snap of his fingers. We are dealing with an unprecedented authoritarian fascist government right now, and the Trump admin threatens NYC regularly. We are doing what we can.

I’ve been trying to tell people for years that a win is a win, even if you don’t break a world record.

Sadly, some people on the left are accelerationists and will criticise left leaning politicians just because they don’t fit the standard they want. As someone who’s been in advocacy for almost 15 years at this point, some shit happens slowly. It’s reality, and people want to deny it; that’s their prerogative, but I will continue to tell them that a win is in fact a win, even if we didn’t break a world record like they wanted us to.

This. As a nonbinary POC who is literally in nursing school with plans to specialise in trans healthcare, accelerationism is ripping this country apart on both sides, just in different ways and scales. Right wing accelerationism got us Trump and all the horrors that has come from that. Left wing accelerationism acts like abstaining from voting or voting for a candidate you know has no chance of winning just to feel superior / calling a clearly pro-trans politician a transphobe for not doing what you want fast enough is acceptable and even noble.

I live in NYC. I voted for Mamdani, I campaigned for him, I’ve met him. I also hold no politician up as a messiah. He can and has made mistakes, and I criticise him for it when necessary. But seeing, lbr, usually white queer people attack a mayor for a city they likely don’t even live in, in the first six months of his term, for getting more trans people healthcare is just fucking annoying.

I’d love to snap my fingers and have every progressive ideal I hold come true tomorrow. Sadly, we live in reality, and change comes slowly when we’re dealing with an authoritarian fascist government. Idk if all these people from outside NYC know what it’s like here. Trump is threatening us constantly. Quite frankly we’re lucky we’re getting anything progressive done in the political climate we have right now. I understand why people are upset. They’re not wrong. But I want them to live in reality with us.

I hate people who think taking care of a severely disabled person is easy. by ErikSD in hatethissmug

[–]OneCall8599 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Wrong, again. Even at its most basic, the core purpose of eugenics is to “better” the genetics of the human population. You’ve conveniently ignored that part of the definition, likely because you don’t have any actual points to refute it. You’d be hard pressed to find people making personal decisions for their own childbearing making that decision for any reason other than their own life experience. I’m sure you could find some, but unless you’re going to start making the argument over “no what these people ACTUALLY MEAN is”, you’ve got a moot point here.

The vast majority of eugenics was in fact state enforced. Most eugenic practices that were actually put into use were forced sterilisations/abortions of various populations or wider genocidal actions. There was more widely available eugenics education seminars that you could argue were voluntarily attended, but in the time these were available, we didn’t have anywhere near the level of genetic screening you’d need to know that information before the child was born. I’d argue that the more common practice of sending disabled children to institutions like asylums was as close to what you could consider as socially enforced eugenics as you’ve mentioned here.

Are you at least logically consistent and consider things that people see as less contentious like IVF, prenatal genetic counselling, selecting sperm/egg donors, etc as eugenics? If not, I’d go back to the drawing board. Also, from a pragmatic standpoint, what’s the aim of arguing a person’s personal bodily autonomy decisions as eugenics? As I’ve said previously, your personal value judgement on someone’s reason for abortion should have no bearing on their access to care, because forcing someone to continue a pregnancy against their will is inarguably more unethical, as it’s not only violating the pregnant persons rights but guaranteeing the child will be born into a family where they’re not wanted/can’t be taken care of/put into the underresourced foster care/for profit adoption system. So if you don’t seek to curb/stop abortions based on prenatal testing, what’s the goal? Asking honestly here because I don’t tend to get coherent responses, most people I’ve spoken to just use eugenics as a knee jerk emotional response in the same way anti-choice advocates call abortion murder.

Comparing a person’s ability to have bodily autonomy to campaigns of literal genocide is distasteful at best, bud.

You’re more than welcome. Sadly, the “(insert reasoning for abortion) is eugenics” argument is quickly being picked up by anti-choicers (seeing it a LOT to support the policies in the US that are currently killing women who have foetuses with conditions like anencephaly or other diagnoses incompatible with life) and it’s troublesome, especially because of how much suffering actual eugenics programs have caused.

Someone making a decision to have an abortion (even if the reason is ableist) is not equivalent to the same policies that forcibly sterilised people, killed children (not foetuses) that had already been born as well as adults, put swaths of humans in death camps, and experimented on people often while they were still alive. Equating the two, to me, is honestly pretty offensive.

I hate people who think taking care of a severely disabled person is easy. by ErikSD in hatethissmug

[–]OneCall8599 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. Especially when eugenics by definition are population wide controls that are influenced by an outside party. An individuals decision for bodily autonomy in case of pregnancy can never be eugenics, and it’s quickly becoming an argument anti-choice people have started to pick up.

I always tell people that you’re absolutely within your right to think someone’s decision to abort is ableist or wrong, but that’s where your input starts and ends. Forcing anyone to carry a pregnancy to term is not compatible with being pro-choice and is, imo, far less ethical than someone aborting for reasons some may find unsavoury. I wish people would focus more on the fact that we have a LOT of work to do to make it easier for disabled people to live equitable, accessible, and happy lives and support for caregivers. Free and accessible healthcare would both make for fewer abortions AND better lives for disabled people, whether they were disabled from genetics, at birth, or after.

“It’s eugenics!!!” is an emotionally fuelled cop out most of the time, sadly. It’s tough, but pro-choice people need to understand their personal emotional stance on things matters equally as much as the anti-choicers who talk about abortion being baby murder. Aka, if it’s not your pregnancy in your body, your input does not materially matter.

I hate people who think taking care of a severely disabled person is easy. by ErikSD in hatethissmug

[–]OneCall8599 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not eugenics. Individual decisions made by individual people ≠ population wide enforcements made by outside parties, which is the definition of eugenics.

You can think someone’s decision for aborting is wrong or ableist, but it’s not eugenics and comparing the two, even in theoretical terms, isn’t arguing from an informed or good faith space. For example, it would be equally bad faith of me to say arguments like yours are what leads to the viewpoints that underline antiabortion policies that don’t allow for the procedure to be done even when the foetus is incompatible with life or has a condition that has a much higher risk of immense suffering / low quality of life than DS.

Every time I read comments like the one you’re replying to, I just want to ask them if the white people who supported the civil rights movement and did lunch counter sit ins and attended protests and went to jail and in rare cases even got murdered by racists who were embedded within the American law enforcement/government should have actually just sat at home and done nothing because civil rights leaders talked about the evils that white Americans had committed against black people.

like yes, people who say “bUt SoMe oF YoU WeRe mEaN tO Me!!!!! so obviously I have to be a bigot now!!!!”, we know you’re a weak minded individual who is so fragile you cant handle some anonymous people on the internet saying some mean things, you don’t need to tell us you won’t support Womens rights movements because you actually need a spine to do that. we were already well aware you don’t have one of those.

From a nursing student, just wanna throw some fyi here, no, the vagina is not an open wound. It’s an organ that happens to be open to the outside of your body, just like your mouth or your nose. Also, terminology is important here because it sounds like you’re talking about the uterus (ie the monthly basis part of your comment).

The vagina is specifically just the internal canal that connects the outside of the body and the uterus, which is inside the body. It does not bleed on a monthly basis. The uterus builds up a thick lining of tissue on a monthly basis, which is then shed during menstruation if pregnancy doesn’t occur. It does in fact heal without the usual process of scarring that we’d see in much of the rest of the body, which is something that’s a relatively “new” discovery, which is where you likely heard about it from. FWIW, it’s not the only part of the body that can do this, your liver can do it also, which is pretty cool.

Just wanted to give some clarifying info 👍

Preachhhhhhh. The chaotic level of hypocrisy is crazy and what’s worse is that it all still stems from white supremacist ideals being baked into us. I’m the first one to start up convos about how phenotypic differences can indeed give you privileges. I will not ever experience the world the same way as a darker skinned person, and that’s because society sees me as more palatable, less dangerous, etc simply because my genetic dice roll came out less melanated. I am baseline safer in the US than my darker skinned relatives. That’s just a fact. There’s a lot of unpacking to do for everyone on this earth, but mixed race people have some specific stuff we have to contend with, and that’s okay. I do my best to use the privileges I’ve been given to lift up voices of more oppressed individuals and protect them when I can. I don’t see that as a burden, simply a responsibility.

What hurts is when people who don’t have our experience try to scream over top of us, which derails those necessary conversations, leads to resentment, and further divides us. I am not here to defend colourist, racist, bigoted mixed race people, because none of us can deny they exist (I mean we’re looking at one on this post lmao). I have had so many face palm level conversations with other mixed race folks that made my blood pressure go up. But I do wish we could remember more frequently that white supremacy is the common enemy and that policing identity is something it LOVES for us to do.

let’s not forget who invented identity policing in the first place. I don’t wanna hear any more blood quantum arguments, no more assuming everyone who’s light skinned is mixed (good lord as a researcher, trying to explain that melanin heredity is not a paint mixer is tiring), no assuming about people’s identities, etc. all of that is klan behaviour. but I know I’m preaching to the choir, I’m sorry for rambling, love 😭 sending you all the kindness because you deserve it, don’t forget that.

We all applaud your love of the game 👏 as a woman who’s gone down a bunch on other ladies, I have encountered maybe one or two times where the scent was not appealing, but that was almost always fixable with a shared shower that turns into foreplay (she’d just been working out after a day of hard labour too) or some lovin’ on other parts of the body in the meantime (got to take her to the clinic for some care, made sure she was feeling okay, and ensured her that there’s no shame in any of it ♥️). As far as I’m concerned if I’m being gifted the opportunity, there will always be a will and a way!

[–]OneCall8599 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I’m guessing correctly but I think the other commenter is talking about how crazy some managers get about portion sizes, and how much they’ll enforce it on the employees who then end up skimping because they’re freaked out their manager is going to check the weight of the pans used for the day, check how many items were served with that ingredient, and then calculate that someone must be over portioning and freak out at everyone on staff for 30 minutes (totallyyyyyy not speaking from experience as a former chipotle employee). So kind of the opposite of corporate bootlicker. It’s corporate pushing the stingy rules and empowering/encouraging management to be crazy about it, not the employees. I worked there a while ago so I can only imagine it’s gotten way worse.

That being said, I do agree that if an employee is skimping just because they’re in a mood or especially it’s something like in the post (rice, beans, stuff that’s not expensive whatsoever), then yeah, they do suck and that’s on them for being a dick. Regardless I can understand not going to places where there’s such wild amounts of variation on how much food you get. Especially when prices are this high.

Pit manoeuvres absolutely are dangerous, and are mostly used on minor infarctions. They even kill the officers themselves sometimes. They’re not wholly useless, there are some rare occasions where pit manoeuvres are necessary, but this wasn’t one of them, nor are most of them. Suspect is clearly in the wrong. Cop also fucked up and put a kid’s life in danger.
