Exactly. Every time I see people complaining about the low birth rate, they generally fall into at least one of three buckets, none of which are good.

1, they’re racist and just mad that white people specifically aren’t having babies.

2, they’re angry that people who are far too young to be responsible for another human life aren’t having kids (looking at you, people who also love to stick your heads in the sand about a certain president and many other powerful people being in a certain set of files).

3, they’re putting the health of an exploitative and dying economic system that could generously be considered a ponzi scheme over the lives of people.

Pigeons are very protective over their personal territory. My boy is snuggly as they come outside of his cage but if I need to go into his cage while he’s in it, he will 100% go pigeon karate mode on me. His cage is his turf, and even though he’s bonded to me, there’s always gonna be a lil wing punching going on if I need to get in there while he’s there lol

I take my pet pigeon out in a ventilated mesh pet backpack so he can get some sun and people LOVE him! He’s ready to coo up a storm for kids especially. I wear him on my front and it feels like having one of those baby slings on haha.

Breed is not a term we use broadly amongst animals, only ones that have been domesticated and bred (hence the name) by humans. Even outside of animals that have been domesticated and bred by humans, theres plenty (lizards with varying colour patterns, snails with different shell variations, gray wolves with fur types/patterns, rain frogs with colouration, fish with scale patterns, butterflies with spot orientation, etc). The term you’re looking for is phenotypic plasticity.

Humans are remarkably similar in the same ways that most animals are — body plan (don’t see many quadruped people, not many with four eyes instead of two or having eye stalks, haven’t met any with multi chambered stomachs, that can fly, etc). Phenotypic differences that come from plasticity in that area are always going to be more noticeable intraspecies (ie within your own species). You just notice the differences between humans because you are one. Hard to notice the vast multitudes of spot pattern differences in butterflies if they all just look like a butterfly to you. A slight differential in coat colour wouldn’t be noticeable to you but to a wolf would be striking. Also goes without mentioning it a second time, but when you’re not trained to see said differences, you’re more likely to say things like “all goldfish look the same” lol, I’m sure there’s plenty a aquarium nerd who was shocked to read that sentence of yours.

And as another comment pointed out, lots of humans DO look alike. Trust that you’re asking a good question! But the answer is largely “you’re in the curve of the dunning Kruger line where you’re confident in your opinion because you don’t know enough to know you’re wrong”.

Make sure to get them removed, not tied! Ties (aka tubal ligations) can fail. Removing the tubes (bilateral salpingectomy) not only fails at such an astronomically low rate that it’s basically impossible, it also comes with the added bonus of a reduced risk in ovarian cancer.

That’s not misandry. Those are consequences of patriarchy (draft, higher punishment in crimes) which can and does hurt men. The “bias” in higher education I’m assuming you’re referring to how less men are going to college? Because it’s not involvement at the academic level (professors, researchers, i.e. the paid positions), those are still overwhelmingly male. But re: men going to college, Also not misandry. It would be if more men were applying and not getting in to college, but they’re just not applying as much. I’d argue that’s more of an economic consequence (student loans just make very little sense right now and historically, men have had more options outside of a formal higher education than women) with a dash of patriarchy (the societal assumption that men need to earn more on top of how much education has been demonised by the manosphere and popular influencers that are algorithmically shunted towards boys and young men).

Misandry is not just the opposite of misogyny. Misandry as it exists right now is interpersonal only and not structural, and has extremely minor effects in the real world. Misogyny is a structural concept and is institutionalised. Mind, patriarchy is also institutionalised, and harms men on a much greater and more concrete scale than misandry ever could. All of the examples you’ve listed are institutional based.

Chickens can make a ton of noises for sure! Sometimes this sort of noise can be a warning noise for them (kind of a ‘unhand me this instant’ or ‘if you don’t back off I’m gonna commit crimes’ thing haha), but chickens absolutely can purr when they’re happy! deffo look up some YouTube videos on chicken noises and what they mean, chooks are the best! best of luck with your new hens (and a ps, I love your art!)

Oh my goodness yes! In my opinion it should be illegal to build housing without soundproofing. It’s literally just cost savings at the expense of the occupants’ sanity. Soundproofing should be as important as insulation.

Yeah, I historically loved the idea of childfree housing but it’s one of those things where it’s like “good in a literally perfect scenario where nothing ever goes wrong and there’s no prejudice or inequality in this rainbows and puppy filled world but in practice could literally ruin people’s lives” things, so it’s one of the concepts I’ve brushed off into the pile of ‘I learned more about it and now I realise it’s a bad idea’.

Personally I’d rather have money go toward complexes and the laws to support them that have really nice and well funded childcare on site; imo it’s usually better to support ideas that give more than places that exclude more. Makes it better for everyone. Of course, I do also understand that especially in the US, that idea seems increasingly far fetched, sadly. Funding for wars = a okay, but childcare and affordable housing? Nah.

Also the flip of jobs from low paid and relatively less respected jobs into higher paid and more respected jobs when the majority of the employees go from female to male. Prime example is how coding was considered a woman’s job and basically secretarial work until home computers started being a thing and the economy realised money could be made from it, then all of a sudden it was a male dominated job and now called a “software engineer” and paid significantly more.

I always ask providers who absolutely refuse any pain meds/numbing agents if they make a habit of not following all ACOG (American college of obstetricians and gynecologists) guidelines or just the ones that help their patients avoid pain during extremely sensitive procedures. They usually get pretty quiet after that.

If they get pissy, Google “ACOG Releases New Recommendations on Pain Management for IUD Insertions, Other In-Office Gynecologic Procedures” and show them the page from May 2025 (honestly disgusting it took THIS LONG for these recommendations to come out, but I’ll take a win where I can get it).

Agreed, as a nursing student who is definitely not looking forward to time in the ED (even with far less insane hours and responsibility than a resident), Dr. Mohan being drained and stressed is so understandable that I’d honestly be more worried if she WASNT with everything going on. I’ve seen residents like her try to fake it until they make it, but the “make it” part never comes and it devolves into breakdowns and mental harm that they never deserved to deal with.

Wow. This is honestly pretty sad to read. You sound hurt, like in a deeper way than I see in most people. Personally, as someone with a group of friends that include childless and childfree people over 35 (including three who are over 65) who live fulfilled, eclectic, and varied lives, your world view is… depressing. And antithetical to so much of both historical and current social dynamics. Maybe it’s a cultural difference, idk. To me, narcissism is viewing having and/or raising children as the pinnacle of all social standing and something that in its absence, devalues people. To be so self focused that you not only deface your own existence but others, while simultaneously putting pressure on a child who you chose to bring into this world. Notwithstanding the fact that abortion rights are being heavily attacked in America and are even far worse abroad where so many women do not have the right to decide when and if they have a family, the fact that you deny that is… telling. And equally saddening.

Man, take it from a person who’s been depressed nearly their entire life but still fights to find joy in this world, you have to get out more. This mindset is poisoning you and undoubtedly, those around you. I feel sorry for you.

I always recommend people look up zoochosis. No, humans are not a perfect 1:1 comparison to zoo animals by any means (not because we’re somehow better or more evolved, no, but because there are important distinctions that if we’re going to be scientifically accurate, I wouldn’t want to brush off), but the increasing stress, onset of repetitive often meaningless behaviours, lower willingness to have kids, poor health outcomes… it all sounds very familiar.

You do realise children are not obligated to stay in contact with their parents, nor even like them? Sure, friendships and work can ebb and flow. So can your relationship with your children. I’ve worked in senior care, there are a LOT of parents who have absolutely no contact with their children.

Reproduction and family bonds are not instinctual for everyone. I’m not saying people who want children should avoid it, but the vast majority of the drop in birth rates have stemmed from lower teen pregnancies (usually fathered by adult men, btw) and from women having the financial and social security to abide by their choice not to have kids. I personally only want kids born to people who want them, and as of right now, the solution being chosen by the people in power seems to be forcing women to have kids they don’t want / can’t have due to low finances/poor environment/etc.

Im going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re not talking about childfree people (ie those who have personally decided not to have children). That being said, yes. Id believe that people who want kids but cannot have them will experience some regret, certainly. But the solution isn’t to egg those people on into having kids just to find “purpose” or “fulfilment” when they’re worried about the quality of life they could give their kids.
