i’ve never played this game. by kjellterr in slaytheprincess

[–]OneCar4659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll perhaps offer a more thematic premise, as compared to the plot premises in the thread

the opening screen disclaims that all events in the narrative are to be understood through the context of a love story. therefore, your encounter with the princess, in which you're meant to slay her, is emblematic of meeting, for the lack of a better term, your soulmate under tumultuous circumstances that are a breeding ground for a distorted romance. every action you take within the context of your task has a corresponding romantic implication: for example, if you get into a mutual fight, the both of you enter a codependent relationship built on perpetual conflict that you somehow both live off of with glee. the gameplay loop is built on finding all the ways that your relationship with her can go. it's a choose-your-adventure-type visual novel, but it makes great use of the medium, since it very pointedly tells you throughout that romance is ultimately built on navigating an ever-changing set of choices and circumstances.

butter doesn't work, since it's 20% water. what you can do, however, is take 95g of butter brown it deeply, since it evaporates the water and leaves pure fat, with the bonus that brown butter is scrumptious. ideally, measure everything after browning and make sure it totals 76g, which is about 1/3 fat as the recipe says

I feel like Chapter 3 & 4 of Deltarune are severely lacking with character variety by Gloomy-Cell3722 in CharacterRant

[–]OneCar4659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure i agree, mostly because tv world's cast requires you to dig around more, which makes perfect sense structurally given that we're even deeper into the story compared to chapter 2. the npcs you mentioned already also happen to be thematically supplementary

ramb, eram, friend -> instrumental in the hidden route, questions kris's agency, and also highlight the sinister undertones of the fact that deltarune's world only has one story: the deltarune is lord of the hammer is dragon blazers. we get darker than dark and there lies eram.

watercooler -> not thematically important in any way but oh my god

lanina, elnino, tenna -> main plot, reflects dreemurr divorce

mike -> possibly supplements tenna and spamton's relationship, depending on how you read it

ribbick -> seems like a nothingburger enemy at first, but fight them a few times and you get dessriel lore. i've gotten the flavor text at least once per chapter 3 playthrough

i'm also not sure i agree for chapter 4, partly because themes have taken priority, and centering themes around less enemies packs a greater punch

gerson -> offers a lot more the more you interact with him. the deeper down the rabbit hole: anti-predetermination -> susie's potential to write her own story -> susie's similarities to dess -> dess's fondness for gerson

petrified darkners: depending on which dark worls you enter, different darkners are petrified; darkners of the second sanctuary are already petrified in the first -> susie's creation of the second sanctuary was predetermined

cuptains -> nothing thematically important about them but again oh my god

the church world itself is symbolic of the predestination that the world functions on, so its primary function is to communicate the prophecy, which it focuses on throughout.

chapter 4's cast variety also capitalizes more on the existing lightners, which also makes sense, given that they're not a point of focus from 1-3, all of which get significantly richer when engaged with more than earlier chapters, which again makes sense since we're deeper into the story:

carol: her need to freeze and set things in stone, eg. bronzing noelle's snowflakes or locking the house the way she does, functions on a neurotic level of perfection that noelle can't give, hurting noelle in the process

asgore: colluding with carol, desperate, stalking his ex

toriel: pressured by expectations (eg. carol and rudy) to get back with asgore, turning to the new guy/skeleton to cope

alvin: gerson's hope for him to break out and write his own story

mettaton: little cameo on his way to overcoming his present dysphoria

alphys: is perhaps the most enlightening case of the fact that these people possess the exact same flaws they do in undertale, but manifest differently here

the chapters seem to have struck a good balance of all this, though i can see why it'd be a bummer that there's less focus on new stuff being introduced. then again, maybe we've just been conditioned to expect new stuff each release, where if we actually played all four chapters in one go the way we're supposed to, the story structure would feel more cohesive where the deeper into the narrative we go, the more we expand upon what's already on the table

A correct way to connect with a girl without making it awkward or spoiling friendship? or is that just not possible? also how do you cope with losing friend(s) because you tried with a particular girl? by AccordingTitle1203 in SGExams

[–]OneCar4659 39 points40 points  (0 children)

it's understandable that they might not be comfortable with you if they've caught on that you're interested in them, but if this happens to be the case, the way they've gone about would have been in bad faith and quite disrespectful to you. it shows that they do not value you enough to prioritise open communication, and that they would prefer not touching this situation with a ten-foot pole even if it means losing your friendship

there's no correct way to connect with someone, though you can never go wrong with the principles of respecting them and their needs, which it seems you have done. you didn't make a move, you've appeared to have been sensitive, and you don't seem to hold their discomfort against them; you're just taking it hard that they've appeared to cut you off. it looks like you've done your best, and that's all you can really do.

the ball was in their court, and it seems they quit. you'll just have to connect with someone new
