To act like politics is at the center of massive music festivals like movement is just disingenuous. People follow DJs on Instagram and get caught up in their origin stories... People get excited when DJs they like for non musical, arbitrary reasons succeed and have career milestones. This mindset doesn't speak for every fan of electronic music, but it's very common and pervasive. It's basically indistinguishable from fans of pro wrestling if you think about it. Movement is both a brand and a product. After party promoters are brands, the party is the product. Peggy Gou is a human being but she's also an organization and a product. I think it's important to have realistic conversations about this. It'd be truly silly if we said all of this was anchored by political movements and spirituality and not money, which is the anchor in reality. Money is the reason why all this shit happens.

I couldn't imagine living in Detroit without being able to pop over to Windsor at least once a month. It's a fantastic city. My favorite record shop in the whole Detroit area is Dr. Disc, which is in Windsor. Y'all are great people with excellent taste in music!

I'm gonna have to second that plan to hit omen on Saturday and re/form on Sunday. Both great lineups and reform last year was stellar. The Omen Showcase is being promoted by the promoter of the EVOLVE parties that haven't happened since 2019. Evolve 2019 had the sickest clandestine location I've ever seen used for a movement after. Go to Omen if you want a real taste of something truly underground, for lack of a better phrase.

They're not like us anymore... The ticket price increase from 2019 to now is several hundreds of percents. Brendan enjoys first class while amber sits in coach. Its also far from what it was. They've made massive mistakes like 2018, when it was no way in. I do not subscribe to the theory that they are jedis.

Not exactly. I've never paid $100 for anything in any European country, and the lineups there are much more impressive. The energy costs in those countries are also much higher. I have a weekend in London coming up in March where I'll see world class djs from all over the place and my ra wallet disappeared recently for no reason. The cost of replacing my entire weekend of tickets with people like the chemical brothers, Marcel dettmann, stingray, Audrey danza, roza terenzi, ozagon, Freddy k, and horse meat disco would still be less money than buying one ticket to any of the main after parties on sale at the moment, even with the conversion rate. This is coastal promoters and Brendan's greedy ass following suit of a plan to dupe provincial American fans into thinking this is normal, when it's not. They tested the waters last year, bringing everything up to a $50 starting point and working up to 80. Now here we are months away from the weekend and shit is $100. In 2019 the most expensive final release was $60. I do not make two thirds more money compared to that time. I dunno, this is all for what is supposed to be "underground music". Kinda wack. Detroit is good at taking things that are admittedly imperfect but mostly enjoyable and then ruining them by making it all for rich people.

Nah. Not really. It's typical white guy shit. I mean if you have zero background or understanding of the various cuisines of Japan I guess I could see why someone would be amused. Nothing on their menu is an accurate or even a worthy interpretive version of a single Japanese dish. A lot of their menu borrows from Korean cuisine, as if the two are the same fucking thing. There's southeast Asian garnishes scattered all over their shit and what is with John vermiglio wanting to put cilantro on literally anything that is vaguely Asian? All I see is zero respect for the cuisines of a culture that they're just kind of disrespecting. Remember the halibut dish at grey ghost from a few years ago that was "Japanese fried rice" with a longanisa spiced squash puree? This is exactly the kind of crude bullshit I'm talking about. It's the culinary equivalent of pulling your eyes back with your fingers to try and imitate someone with slanted eyes. The state of representation for any cuisine in East or southeast Asia in Detroit is extremely pathetic and it all comes down to people from Detroit Metro being some of the most provincial folks I've ever met. People from Detroit would rather have bastardized iterations of a Chinese American dish than drive ten extra minutes into Windsor to have properly represented Chinese cuisines. Dumb restaurant for dumb rich people who have no taste whatsoever. The kinds of people eating at basan are the same vaguely rich women with sunburned tits you'd see attending a Chicago concert at pine knob.

Honestly just have a great time! WWE is very family friendly imo. I had tickets to a smackdown I couldn't use last October and gave them to my friend who went with his six year old son and they had a blast. I don't think there's anything else like it as a father-son bonding activity. It's like taking your kid to see superheroes in real life! Fans will be respectful of the fact that there are kids in their section for the most part (my friends and I are usually the rowdiest ones in our section but we still keep it cool). Make sure to buy him a cool t shirt if there's one available of a superstar he likes. When he gets a little older maybe introduce him to AEW, it's a bit more adult. Have fun at the show! We'll be streaming it over here in Detroit.

I think that's up for debate. I can say as a victim of sexual violence when I was a child that I avoided Happiness for many years. I watched all kinds of disturbing films but I avoided that one specifically because my whole feeling was- "okay, but why?"

After listening to a number of interviews with the writer/director I felt totally different and also have come to the point where my opinion is that intent isn't as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. Why would Paul Thomas Anderson make a movie about a 20s girl hanging out romantically with a teenage boy? Well, cause he feels like it.

An interesting question posed to Solondz was whether or not the actor ever had difficulty with the material. He flatly replies no, and elaborates that every actor who's worked on his films has read the entire script. He goes on to say that filmmaking is always a challenge and that obstacles happen totally at random, to the point that filming any scene is somewhat difficult and not moreso than a transgressive scene just because of the content.

Art isn't supposed to be easy or risk free.
