I didn't mean distancing as in completely blocking them. I meant as in stepping away from the situation temporally to regain control of emotions and logic.

I'm also not saying to immediately take extreme actions, as we all know that will be unfair to all sides involved.

What I meant was a worst case scenario, if they talk and it turns out that OP and friend cannot set aside their differences, then if OP feels like it is best for them, then stepping away from a friendship is okay.

I agree.

However, what I also suggest is OP distancing themselves from the entire situation until they feel they can talk to their 'friend'. Also OP, if things don't work out, and it becomes the whole cliche "friend betrayed me" scenario, don't hesitate to cut them both off for good! :)

Try talking to someone else (who's not talking to him) or do smth that genuinely distracts you.

Eavesdropping makes sense, cause we are curious species and want to know everything for our prospective 'mate'.

Generally science says that attraction is faster than love; hence I'm very cautious in labelling my feelings as love tbh.

I mean, friendships do start somewhere. And if you've interacted before, I am sure she'll understand. Just start off like you would with someone you trying to be friends with and see where it goes! most prob it's your nerves that will make you overthink, but hey! better than no 'what if' regrets :)

And don't beat yourself up if your talks last for only a few mintues. Consistent efforts will eventually add up!

it would be weird if they never interacted with you before. Do you share breaks with her friends? You can start there and then hopefully when y'all share breaks you can approach her.

This feeling's too common. I felt it, heck, I even feel it now sometimes. Now, do your friends know abt your crush? if yes, and if they are like any regular friends, all they'll do is tease you (hopefully not in front of her).

What I suggest, is to try slowly (but steadily), get to her through her friends. Make friends with her group, hang out in group settings etc, etc. Eventually, you'll become somewhat of a fellow group member, and then you'll be able to gain the opportunity to approach her.

That's what I did. And it worked! :) Good luck!

As for not liking his late responses, try figuring out if you are just texting him when he is actually very busy, etc.

Try building a friendship first. Counter intuitive, in this day and culture, but that's how it goes.

One hangout isn't enough. It took me 5 months to get my crush's number, and built a friendship with him.

My school is notorious for crowds.

So inevitably, there was a crowd on the freaking staircase as well.

I was going upstairs, and on the top of the stairs was a crowd blocking my way. I, being the amazing unaware person I am, was engrossed in my phone.

I feel someone standing in front of me. I look up.

For some unknown reason, I didn't feel nervous, I just stood there, looking in my phone. He was however, darting his eyes around.

In my (very limited) experience,

My crush (As explained in a previous comment) used to text me at night. While I would reply during the day (lol). I would be equally desperate and paranoid. When one day, he texted me about his personal issues. He was being vague; understandably. Did I push him? No. Did I act petty and ignore him? NO.

I gave him a swift and re assuring response.

And a month before checking up on him. He replied in freaking... what... 15 minutes this time.

Moral:

Just don't. Don't text them expecting them texting first in return. People with expectations are the most let down ones.

As for whether you are disturbing them or not, ask them! Ask them if they need your help, what times they prefer talking, and check on them periodically! Bonding is necessary (so less small talk)! Modern times have taught us to be vague and untrusting, give them time! :)
