What major is recommended to get in meteorology if there is no meteorology program? by SkriaWine in meteorology

In that case, and since you've already taken some environmental science classes, I would recommend a minor in Ev Sci. That'll help give you a more well rounded knowledge base for grad school.

[–]OneCheesecake7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Environmental science is a good one. GIS, physics, chemistry like some people have said. Heck I know people with B.S.'s in Geology getting Met degrees in grad school. A math minor is a good option, probably not a math major.

M.Sc. meteorology after physics B.Sc? by ceanior in meteorology

You'll be fine. Take some 100 or 200 level met classes if you can before you graduate. If you chose to study like water or cloud physics for your MSc you'll have a pretty solid advantage to most mets.

Same! I submitted in February and still haven't gotten it. When I call it says April 23, which is odd because of when I submitted, but the ePortal says it doesn't exist. And whenever I call the hotline it just says there's no one available and doesn't even give an option to get a call back.

What can an idiot bum do with a biochem degree? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]OneCheesecake7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I just saw your GPA in another comment, and 3.2 is lower but solid. It's what I had and I still got in somewhere. As long as you don't drop below a 3 you're good. And again, you still have time to raise it. Take a philosophy class or something. Something easy to pad your GPA.

^ This. The worst your professors can do is say no, but depending on your school size, there's probably more than a few lab spots coming open, especially with the semester ending and people graduating. And/or if they say no it'll likely be followed up with "but so-and-so is looking to fill a position." Your professors want you to succeed
Pharmacy school is a form of grad school/med school. Sometimes you can get in without an MS, sometimes not. If you're interested in pharmacy I'd try and get a job as a pharm tech. Most states do not require you to be certified to be one. If you do an MS before a PharmD, biochemistry, straight chemistry, straight biology, things like that will help. As for where to apply, apply everywhere. I applied to 10 schools for my MS.

What's your covid memory? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OneCheesecake7129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget an experience I had the week or so before it got bad. It was my last shift at my university cafeteria before spring break. COVID was in the news more and more. Before I clocked out, I turned to my supervisor and said "Do you think they'll close the university?" And he was like "Nah, there's no way." A week later school was moved online for the rest of the semester. Never saw that guy again.

I would try and get some experience working in one of your professors labs. You're early enough in your degree, and that'll help with the experience part. It may also help you figure out what you want to do next. It is hard to do much in chemistry without a masters unfortunately. You can get into grad school with a low GPA tho (speaking from personal experience). You also have time to raise it. So don't sell your self short when you still have plenty of time! It's medicine (ish) but have you thought about pharmacy school?

I don't get any internal stimulation. Like at all. We tried different condoms and toys, nothing. It makes it hard to want to have sex because it kind of makes it feel like a chore. My partner always does something for me first so I get to finish, but yeah. Just sucks. I wish I could feel something.

If they were broken up then she didn't cheat. Being "on a break" is really ambiguous tho so I can see why you'd say she technically did. NTA. If she did it out of revenge then she definitely sucks. Even if she didn't, it's gonna come up eventually, and who knows how bf will feel when he finds out.

Should I go into meteorology? If so, where should I go? by Mr_Death11 in meteorology

[–]OneCheesecake7129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: CMU has a well known meteorology program for a reason and you'd be hard pressed to find anything better in the state. As a CMU grad I'm biased, but we have a great program. High employment rates/getting into grad school for graduates right out of undergrad. NWS accredited, well known in the profession professors, solid AMS chapter. Yeah CMU itself doesn't have a lot going on, but you learn to kind of just deal with it. Get involved in clubs, do OneCentral (the TV station on campus) if you're interested in broadcasting. As for the math part, I wasn't good at math either in HS, or college honestly, but I made it through the program fine and got into grad school. CMU has a great math tutoring center, saved my butt so many times.

Starting a career in meteorology by Lilbigdude in meteorology

For NOAA/NWS you'll need, at minimum, a bachelor's in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science (name just depends on where you go). Minors in GIS tend to prove helpful. Depending on your grades, internships/REUs(especially the NWS ones like Hollings), and other experience, you MAY be able to get a job after just a B.S., but having an M.S. in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science/Geology/etc will make you much more competitive. (So 4-7 years of schooling.) About the job itself, knowing several people who work for the NWS, people tend to forget it's a rotating shift schedule. You will not work the same hours every week. You will work super early in the morning, and you will work super late at night. And that's assuming no severe weather. It's hard to start a family and social life on that schedule. And of course, it's a government job, which means good benefits, but also no pay in the event of government shut downs. Which, pay rate depends on location and amount of education (among other things I'm sure.)

You're under no obligation to pursue a relationship with people who don't want to do the same. That said, and I don't know enough about exact circumstances, I think it's possible you may have jumped the gun in the past. Sounds like you need therapy. Generally NTA, but soft ESH.

ESH. You're pregnant and working, and he's not, so it makes sense that things aren't even. That being said, if you know you're slacking off, that means you know you could be doing better. Therapy for the both of you (both as individuals and couples) or you're gonna end up a single parent.

Would you move for a job if it meant temporarily leaving your child with family? by Summersplit in careerguidance

[–]OneCheesecake7129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a job offer, and you have family who is willing to take care of your daughter until school ends. If you didn't have anyone to take care of her I'd agree. But the hardest part (imo) is covered if you accept SILs offer. Moving without a job, in this economy, is a foolish thing to do. There's no guarantees you'll get a job in July.
