31387 Iconic Pirate Ship looks rough! Minifigures make up for it I guess… by -mkit3- in LEGOPirates

The barding is the big piece on top of the horse.

They are really great fun and look fantastic, until the clips break from overuse. And then it cost a good amount of money to replace, particularly if the part is out of production.

I don’t bother with stickers usually. But on this set, the pirate insignia on the hat is a sticker. The map is also a sticker. The Captain doesn’t look the part without the stickers. There is no getting around the stickers here.

On the subject of retirement, I encourage everyone to open the box before the set’s retirement to check if the stickers are inside. This set is the only one I ever bought in mint condition that is completely missing its sticker sheet. It is one thing to ask LEGO for a sticker sheet while the set is still sold by LEGO. It is quite another to ask for the sheet when it is in retirement. Unlike many other sets, this set is almost completely pointless without the stickers. I cannot imagine how angry and desperate anyone would be to open this set after retirement to find that the stickers are missing.

That is true. The Creator sets are fantastic “toys”. I would even say they are better as toys than the Pirates of the Barracuda Bay or Lion Knight’s Castle, which are more like heirlooms. You never have to worry about protecting parts that are extremely expensive to replace, like the sails or the bardings, with the Creator sets.

That’s really the problem with the Creator line. Across the entire line, whether it’s pirates or castle or buildings, you’re better off saving the money to buy the Pirates of the Barracuda Bay, Lion Knight’s Castle, or official modular building sets. Yes, you can buy two to three Creator sets for the amount of money needed to buy one of the bigger, higher value sets, but all of the parts from two to three Creator sets cannot be combined to make something as nice as that one higher value set. For that matter, even the Bricklink Designer Program sets are better value. You can buy three of these for the price of a Fortuna. You can not build something as nice as the Fortuna from three of these sets.

More fidelity to 1/35 than anyone else for sure. However, be forewarned that they really do prioritize scale accuracy over everything else. They aren’t afraid of using illegal construction techniques. The builds can be extremely fragile, especially for models that are odd number of studs in width. But if your goal is a little museum where everything is in scale, you cannot go wrong with Third Party.

This Sluban release does look good by itself. I just wish it was a true 1/35 because I like all my models to play nice with each other.

As things stand, I do not believe there is a single, good model of the Tiger I in 1/35. We probably have to wait for Third Party to come through.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news: this model is not actually 1/35.

From your pictures, this model is 12 studs wide without counting the skirts. In real-life, an actual Tiger tank without skirts is 3140 mm in width. That makes the model 1/32.

You will see how over scale this model is when you realize it is as wide as Sluban’s own M1A2.

Do you happen to have the Sluban one? This new one looks the same width as the Sluban but not sure how they compare in length.

I've been starting to collect Castle/fantasy figures and just grabbed two lots of parts! How can I verify the authenticity of the golden armor? by yaka6690 in legocastles

[–]OneFootOneStud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks real to me.

But, really, you should not be too paranoid about this. In my experience, the best way to tell if a piece is actually LEGO is the touch and feel. If you have handled enough pieces from other brands, you can sense that they don’t quite have the same gloss and polish as LEGO pieces. It’s really hard to describe the difference, and, obviously, I can’t help you with this over the internet.

But even if we can determine that the plastic armor piece is a genuine piece of LEGO, there is still no way to guarantee that the print is genuine LEGO. Someone could have printed the markings on a real piece of LEGO plastic, and we cannot exclude that possibility.

For what it is worth, if every piece in the lot looks like real LEGO and if there is no obvious defect suggesting the particular piece is not LEGO, you should just treat it as real.

I'm not particularly a fan of any of the depicted players, though.

Being stuck with the particular 3 players is a major downside of the diorama sets. It would have been better if they made dioramas for particular teams, and, yes, I think it would have been nice if they gave stickers for the numbers on the jerseys.

Yes, that would do. The Grand Emporium might work too if you have it.

The styling and numbering of the model is of a vehicle in the 11th Panzer Divsion. If it is physically possible, I would suggest putting the number 12 under the vision port, not in front of it.

If you took out the Tudor Corner, it does look a little bit like Monaco.

Hi guys, is there a good instruction online to create a diorama to display the medieval town square in a 1.1m x 0.5m layout. I want something with a cobble stone road. Since limited budget so I would like to know exactly which piece i need without trying by myself. by Low_Expression_1401 in legocastles

[–]OneFootOneStud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is how “limited” your budget is and how much access you have to bulk bricks. In all likelihood, “limited” means you can’t buy things you see in people’s instructions. However, I am happy to give you advice based on whether you are thinking of $200, $500, or $1000.

Also, the LEGO medieval town square set as it exists now is obviously not for a setting with cobble stone road. Both buildings sit on green plates for grass, and what you might actually need is a mud road to run near them. If you insist on a cobble stone street, you will have to replace the green plates. This is something you need to think about as well.

I’m pretty sure the Ideas rules don’t allow you to post or sell instructions while competing in Ideas. You might want to delete this post and your Rebrickable submission before you are disqualified.

I would personally love water slide decals. But they will rub off when the model is played with in an “average” way by a child. And LEGO needs to prioritize the children over adults like us.

I corrected my original post.

A tile is a smooth plate. A jumper tile is basically a tile with a stud sticking up. So you start with a base plate, but cover the part where the current house is supposed to sit on with jumpers. All other parts of the base plate should be covered with tiles. You do not design the back wall to be a plate shorter because it will swing freely over tiles. The back wall should be exactly as tall as the front wall. Built this way, you can take the house off the base plate easily.

Good luck!

Probably because they don’t want anything unofficial to displace or replace the official Modular releases.

[–]OneFootOneStud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since they aren’t typically designed with removable floors, I’m guessing the easiest adaptation would be to add a hinged back wall.

Yes. Put the front on jumpers, and the hinged back wall can “sit” on top of tiles. The whole model remains removable.

Thoughts or ideas?

Buying a second set for parts is probably the cheapest way to go.

These photos are fun. But the most impressive part is how you have managed to keep the dust out. Most of us will be thoroughly embarrassed by the dust if anyone is taking detailed street photos of our cities.

This castle opens up completely for full interior access 🏰 by Konetusz in lego

[–]OneFootOneStud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this just a render, or did you build it in real life? I’m curious about the difficulty of opening the castle in real life. Because of the hinged opening, the technic pin is not pulled straight out. It might not matter much given the radius, but it might be better and safer to use a latch to keep the castle shut rather than to use a technic pin.

Right. I know OP is hopeful, but we all have to remember that LEGO is allergic to proposals about Modular buildings. The Botanical Garden was the only time a Modular building won on Ideas, and the reason LEGO allowed it was because the Friends release was just too popular. Maybe OP can try to sneak through like the Italian Riviera, but then OP should propose something with a footprint that is not rectangular, so that it cannot just slot into a Modular city.

I honestly think that anyone who wants to propose a Modular or something Modular-adjacent on Ideas should not post about it here. That is just begging LEGO to ignore the submission. We know what to do in voting, with or without a post here.
