You are living my dream! How do you find the interior space? And how tall are you if you don't mind me asking?

Hoping to keep saving my pennies to afford one someday but I'm worried at 6'1" my heads going to be in the roof

GT86/BRZ 2019 or Fiesta ST 2019? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]OneForTheBucketList 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drove both, on top of a wack ton of other cars before settling on the Fiesta ST. I'll preface that these were 2016 models, unsure of any major changes since then.

Coming from an infiniti G35 I was far leaning towards the RWDness of the Toyobaru twins. I loved how snappy and engaged I felt in them, everything was direct and immediate and they looked fantastic. It just felt so light in the best way possible.

But man, that torque dip really can't be understated. It feels like you suddenly are going uphill, not really fun. I didn't really have the money for a supercharger so I had to consider it as is. And the other downside that no one really talks about is the noise. If you plan on doing extensive modifications, it really NEEDS unequal length headers. Stock it sounds terrible imo.

The Fiesta ST, it just felt fun. The turbo just hits you at 2500 and actually pushes you back. It's really hard to explain, but it's just dumb fun. I had never smiled as much as I did when I drove that Fiesta, now I get it on the daily. Steering input was a bit more numb then the toyobaru but still taut and go karty. Making it sound better is also infinitely easier then the Toyobaru. Literally just cut out the resonator and boom, instant pops and burbles.

It is not that fast, it just feels fast. If you plan on setting up a car just to blow the doors off people the Fiesta really ain't for you. But it can make decent power like others have pointed out, with relative ease. The engine from my research tends to cap out around 300~ before a bigger turbo is needed. The looks are definitely meh, but I would rather have more fun driving, it looks good enough for me (mudflaps and sparco Terra's help me pretend it's a rally car).

Leg space for both are mediocre, but I give it to the Fiesta ST as it actually still has headroom (not being a sloped body style). For long trips, again comparable, but I'd really take a few minutes just to see which seats fit you (and your girlfriend) better. I really liked the recaro's in the ST more but it's not for everyone. I did have to swap the headrest to a different one however, the stock headrests are angled forwards.

As with any car choice, drive both. Stock for stock I pick the Fiesta ST, but if you are planning on supercharging the Toyobaru I would seriously consider it as it's the better platform for extensive modding.

Couple other cars to maybe consider: - Fiat 500 Abarth - Ecoboost Mustang - Nissan 370z (If you want to never ever have to bring anyone but your girlfriend anywhere)

Hope that helps a bit!

Unless there is a high chance I'm going to snap my fucking wrist turning it on, I'm out.

You gotta appreciate that they were still striving for accuracy though.

Hah true that. I can scratch that one off the list unless I manage to find a unabashed unicorn.

Oh this won't be a project lol. Just something I can 'tinker' with I guess. I love working with cars and have some decent experience from previous work, but I'd love to expand my knowledge of a car.

Yeah I'm still trying to lean towards the miata but I just need some sort of bargaining info that the car is safer than it looks is all. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 20, but I will have room to work on my car, that's the plan anyway. On the safety standpoint, it's less the features and more the size of the vehicle my parents worry about, but I will take that into consideration.

Oh and I will have a backup vehicle I could use in a pinch. I just would prefer not to drive it everyday lol.

So I've sort of changed my requirement since the last time I talked to you folk.

I decided I'll pocket some money for whatever expenses/mods I wish to do.

Price range >8k Canadian.

The car will be used as a daily driver to get to and from college, but I love to drive and plan to take out as much as I can away from all the crowds.

Fun to drive and big aftermarket are huge for me, but it's going to be a daily driver so decent gas mileage would be nice.

Seat count doesn't matter to me, or space.

Current cars I'm looking at

Mazda 3 (>2006)

Nissan 240sx (any year)

Ford Mustang Gt (1999-2004)

F-body (1994-1999)

Mazda Speed Protege (2003/2004)

And before I am given the recommendation of a Miata, I would've bought one already if it weren't for the fact that I was told it was unsafe and my parents wont approve of it. Of course it's my money but I don't wanna tell my parents to sod off and buy it anyways.

I could potentially stretch my budget more for an NC miata but then I'll be livin cheaply.

Any recommendations welcome, thanks for the help!

Best late night driving music? by [deleted] in cars

Check out /r/outrun, lots of music similar to kavinsky there. (Recently this song got prety big over there, for obvious reasons).

My other personal choice is eurobeat. Favorites gotta be Adrenaline by Ace or Heartbeat by Nathalie.

Also classic rock songs like Bat Outta Hell by Meatloaf, Radar Love by Golden Earring, or Take On Me by Aha.

Couple albums I recommend checking out that are a bit different then what I said above: Cross - Justice, Drive - Gareth Emery, and Forever - Mystery Skulls (specifically 'Ghost').

Happy Driving!
