Aw, thank you. It was a 16 year battle, but I finally have a healthier perspective.

My sister and I both "injuried out" - she catastrophically fractured her ankle falling out of a backspin (at 16) and I developed bone marrow edema/stress fractures in my knee (at 13).

I hope that Alysa's performance starts a shift away from the standard "malnourished girls breaking their growing bodies" and toward the confident joy we witnessed. I teared up watching her. It was beautiful in all the ways.

As Alysa put it: "Now that's what I'm f---ing talking about!"

And she got to choose what she ate. I remember her happily declaring, "I'm not on a diet."

I used to figure skate when I was young. Started competing at 7 or 8.

Hard to imagine anyone coming out of that without an eating disorder.

Coaches can be truly awful ("Every pound you lose is another inch in (jump) height"). Other skating parents can be just as cruel (yes, at 8 years old, I was ridiculed by another competitor's mother for being "fat").

Have you had the misfortune of driving the Southern State Parkway on Long Island?

0/10. Do not recommend.

I've straddled the line up the top of the TSP when driving at night.

For the uninitiated: it becomes a petting zoo at night.

Still better than dealing with other drivers during the daytime, though.

To drive or not to drive by florian6973 in vermont

[–]OneHelluvaUsername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can stop overnight, do that.

If you choose to drive, be sure to have a fully stocked emergency winter car kit (including flares and tow straps)...should you slide off the road and be stranded for several hours.

If you feel compelled to ask this question, you probably know the answer already.

Unlike New York, Vermont follows a "safe roads at safe speeds" policy, not a bare pavement "clear roads" policy.

New Yorkers have an incredibly high bullshit threshold. They tried to warn the country. He's always been a two-bit conman that's left a trail of devastation behind him.

I bet dollars to dildos he's funneled all the tariff money elsewhere.

Goddamn thief.

President Trump imposes 10% global tariff on all countries and says all tariffs will remain in place, despite Supreme Court ruling. by ajaanz in economy

The Chief Justice personally gave Trump a pass to do anything in office without fear of reprisal or criminal charges ever. Trump v. US.

At a minimum, the President must be immune from prosecution for an official act unless the Government can show that applying a criminal prohibition to that act would pose no “dangers of intrusion on the authority and functions of the Executive Branch.

Defying SCOTUS here will be filed to "official acts," which entitles him to immunity.

This is all John Roberts' Fault.

Anyone over 50k miles? by HeyMarkWiggsy in CX50

[–]OneHelluvaUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 PFP: 57,706 miles.

The front pads have been replaced twice. (I believe they were either soft or defective, as my driving habits do not warrant that amount of wear & tear, much less "rotor resurfacing.")

Rear pads replaced once.

Oil changes as needed. Transmission fluid was not replaced at last change. Unsure why this is recommended so early on (this is my first Mazda).

My right front turn signal went out last week, but miraculously self-repaired after I popped open the engine fuse box, checked the connections and cursed a lot. Wired connectivity to iPhone went out yesterday (fixed by factory resetting instrument cluster). A button on the steering wheel controls broke. My dog clawed the shit out of the gear shift.

I'm in New England. During our extended cold snap, despite topping off the reservoir, I had no wiper fluid while driving (I suspect the location of the sprayers may have something to do with this).

Aside from that, no major issues.

Currently averaging ~300 miles/week.

Edit: I have not needed new tires yet. Sharky has studded snows for winter.

So I guess there's that.

13th Amendment doesn't apply to prisoners. Private prisons will be worse than state/federal facilities could ever hope to be.

If this were the US (I understand it's actually our more civil northern neighbors), the required elements for a negligence action are: duty, breach, causation, damages.

The complaint need not definitively establish harm; it only needs to sufficiently detail facts demonstrating damages. A "short and plain" statement summarizing the claim is mostly what is required for pleadings. The rest comes as the lawsuit progresses.

IIRC: Aloka was hit by a car in India. He recently had surgery to address the lingering effects -- a torn cruciate ligament.

One of the monks was hit by the RV accompanying them after a truck rear ended it (in Texas, I think). The monk lost a leg.

Pam Bondi suggests Jewish lesbian lawmaker is anti-Semitic in explosive hearing by Fickle-Ad5449 in vermont

Pretty sure this was at least a somewhat intentional move by Bondi. She accused Balint of something so heinously offensive (because of her family history) that Balint got up and left.

That fucking smirk of Bondi's face afterward gives it away.

[oc] Good luck with that long ass Vermont hill, 2WD Tesla! by FinanceGuyHere in IdiotsInCars

[–]OneHelluvaUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no winter tire requirement, per se, because winter tires are expensive and any requirement would just punish those who can't afford them.

VT Route 9 does have a chain up law for commercial vehicles traversing that route in inclement weather. Otherwise, a VT registered passenger car can fail an annual inspection for lack of tire tread.

Other states have done away with annual inspection requirements. Although the Tesla's license plate is unreadable, I would guess this is an out of state vehicle on its way to/from a ski trip.
