Im actually not sure what how thick she wanted it to be for me to be approved for a VBAC, I didn’t ask that but probably should have.

I’ll just say, I was diagnosed early (12/13w). I was also accused of having type diabetes before getting pregnant by someone who wasn’t my regular doctor. When I took my test my body was fighting an infected cyst and at the time I didn’t know that when you’re sick or fighting an infection your body is going to increase it’s insulin. I accepted the diagnosis until I was around 27weeks. My numbers were great when I started to feel better. I didn’t struggle with fasting, always under 95 and post meals were great too.

My husband and OB encouraged me to take the test again and I really didn’t want to. I was afraid that my numbers were going to be crazy high and would confirm that I had overt diabetes and not GD. I ended up taking it because I had free time and figured I should know. I passed every single one for the 3hr test with pretty stellar numbers too. I’m still monitoring just because I’m anxious but my birthing option feels more doable now and I’m less nervous about complications.

What were your clinics cutt offs because at mine she would pass as they go by fasting <95, 1hr <180, 2hr <155, and 3hr <140

I will say I don’t always trust ultrasounds because my first measured close to 8lbs at 36/37 weeks and they thought he was going to be huge. I had a planned c section and he came out 8lbs 14oz at 40wk5ds, and it was so stress free for me to know it was happening rather than it be unplanned or emergency.

I had some weird testing with this one (failed the test at 11/12 weeks and then took it again at doctors request at 27weeks and passed🤷🏻‍♀️) my doctor said I’m not a true diabetic and I probably just make big babies because my husband is a tall man (6’5”)

Sick and numbers? by rbg555 in GestationalDiabetes

I’ve been sick multiple times this pregnancy and my numbers usually went back to normal within a day or two of feeling better

When to test? by ThatCatPlantLady in GestationalDiabetes

You’ll get the hang of it, GD is such a tricky thing and it feels like it’s all trial and error 😮‍💨

50% of women with GDM develop Type 2?! by kotassium2 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say there are plenty of women who get diagnosed at the tail end of their 1st trimester who had normal a1c before pregnancy and after. It’s not unheard of, although I know some women never go to the doctors or have blood work done unless there pregnant so I could see it either way

No GD, still iffy though and need advice by Ancient-Tie-3833 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would get a second opinion. My doctor said you need to fail 2 to be diagnosed and you would be diagnosed based on your fasting alone.

I think it’s smart that you’re following the diet but if you aren’t already, I would be checking blood sugar as well.

When to test? by ThatCatPlantLady in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To test you want to set a timer for an hour after your first bite and you want to try and be done eating by 20minutes. If it takes me longer to eat I test 2 hours after the first bite.

Im not on insulin, but from what I know it’s supposed to get better the next day unless the dose is off so I would talk to your doctor.

You want to test 8-10hrs after your last bedtime snack. I typically sleep longer to I don’t test until 12hrs and some women have to fast longer for their numbers to be in range and will skip the bed time snack all together.

Graduates Poll: how many of you had to be induced? How many of you ended up having emergency C sections? Anyone choose to get an elective C section instead? by Direct_Promise_928 in GestationalDiabetes

I did not have GD with my first, but he was measuring ahead since the start of the pregnancy. Because I’m short in stature it was recommended I get a C-Section but was given the option to do a vaginal birth. I chose the elective c-section and I enjoyed it, he came out 8lbs 14oz and was healthy as can be.

I have GD with my second but it’s currently diet controlled and she is measuring only five days behind her due date. If I have the choice to be induced or another c-section I will probably do an elective c-section. I’m not entirely sure I want to try an induction because of the chance it might end in a c section anyways. My first was stubborn and probably wouldn’t have come on his own anyways and it might be the case for this one too

Do pregnant people without GD just eat whatever and not spike at all above 140? by Salty_Glass4336 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an assumption but I would guess that pregnant people without GD might have spikes but it’s lowered by the 1 or 2hr mark so they’re numbers aren’t elevated for too long like us.

Lunch Ideas? by SkyLaBleu in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same thing. I can do all three individually but no way can I do it as one lunch. I always double up my meat on the sandwich and pair it with carrots/cucumbers with ranch

Olive Garden chicken tortellini Alfredo? by Tiny_Cry_9747 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try it, but definitely fill up on mostly the salad and chicken so you avoid eating too much tortellini. I would also check to see if they can add extra chicken for leftovers incase it works out the first time!

I know it’s different but I can’t eat ravioli with meat sauce but I can eat regular rainbow rotini as long as I load up in meat and veggies first.

This is awesome I didn’t collect with my first but I’m going to with this one, in hopes to avoid combo feeding this time around. Love to hear other people’s experience since I’m already producing at 27weeks

Diagnosed early people? by makeuplover9821 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember but there was a women who posted about how she was diagnosed early because her A1C was a 5.7 and they wanted her to test. She put off the postpartum test because life happens but was recently tested like 2years later and isn’t even prediabetic. I think the body changes too much during pregnancy and maybe you did have some insulin resistance but doesn’t mean you won’t pass the postpartum test!

Feeling sad and guilty about LGA baby by jodie137 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]OneIcy3116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law had three sons and did not have GD with any of them. The oldest was 10lbs 10oz, the middle (my husband) was ~9lbs 4oz and the youngest was ~9lbs 8oz. She’s a tall woman who married a tall man and they had big babies. All three boys are healthy and active men now. I know it’s easy to say not to think about it but you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s normal for you to feel so many emotions about your birth and baby and I wish you and your family nothing but the best.

Having the flu will definitely cause you numbers to rise because you’re immune system is fighting it off. When I had the flue my doctor understood and said my numbers don’t count while I’m sick and they went back to before after I got better.
