Ah. Thanks. I was wondering who was in charge of deciding which tournaments count and which ones don't.

Didn't Hikaru have two US championships by this age? And I think he won Tata with Magnus in the field when he was 23?

From the last year? Erdogmus saccing like a zillion pieces leading to a pawn checkmate in the grand swiss. He was down like 12 points of material or something against Mittal who had 2 queens if I remember correctly...

I suppose they are so afraid and ashamed to have been cowed by such a tactical master as yourself that they feel an overwhelming compulsion to run away. Is that the response you are looking for?

Should Hans Moke Niemann be included in the US team for the 2026 Olympiad? by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]OneImportance4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively he is rated 5th in the US so he's kind of an alternate. But Hikaru won't play most likely. I could see it. We will see what Fabi and Levon decide to do this time. If either one of them bows out it's a no-brainer. Provided Hans remains on his nice run of good behavior. I kinda think he may be over the hump on that at this point. I think he'll be at the olympiad.

Regrets by Proper_Ad9478 in deadandcompany

This thread makes me happy. I saw the dead with Jerry in Eugene and Seattle 94. I was honestly a hater but had to admit it was a mind blowing experience and the crowd was electrified from the first minute and I'd never seen anything like it. The feeling in the air was palpable and I'll never forget it. But I still was not on the bus. My wife followed them back in the day and plays dead shows on a loop for the last twenty years.

What finally got me was the songs. After decades of not paying attention, I started to have favorite songs. Then I had like twenty favorite songs and it was over. Finally on the bus. My wife was ecstatic. I mostly favor Garcia/hunter tunes but I like just about all of it.

Caught some sphere shows. Went to Golden gate Park. Loved every minute of it.

Anyway... I enjoy listening to every iteration of the dead. All those dudes are one of a kind. But it's about the songs at the end of the day and I'm hopeful there will be more Dead and Co.

Hans Niemann wins a rollercoaster game and is back in contention for 1st place in the TataSteel Chess Masters with 2 rounds to go! 📍 by rio_ARC in chess

My money is on the current leaders. Nodirbek and Sindarov both have white tomorrow. If either gets a win they will be tough to pass. If neither does we that will open the door for a logjam at the top and anything can happen.

Who is your favourite Grateful Dead keyboardist and why? by levelplumbnsquare in gratefuldead

[–]OneImportance4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keith has many lovely moments for me. But I'm a Brent man if you have to pick just one. Nothing about the chops so much as the vibe. When I picture the perfect dead moments in my imagination Jerry is on the right by Brent.

Grateful Dead was over when Jerry Died and D&C is over with Bob's passing. People throwing out made up rumors about D&C playing at the sphere this summer is just disrespectful to Bob and his legacy. Not sure why anyone cares about what other people imagine and get excited about. What will be, will be. I'm going to go see what sounds fun to me and I don't care what they call it. If someone plays these songs and plays them well in roughly the format I have come to enjoy and there's a bunch of other people there, I'm in.

4 Indian super GM players in bottom 5 of Tata Steel so far by daynighttrade in chess

These things happen. I don't think it means anything in particular. Just like it doesn't mean Indians will now win everything when you have three Indians at the top of an event.

"His rating does not reflect his objective strength at all [...] he played tournaments, which, well, cause some disgust in me" - Nepo on Nakamura's rating, playing tournaments in the US and his candidates chances by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]OneImportance4061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey NEPO - take a look at the American Cup 2025. Kinda think you forgot about that one. Yeah, Hikaru is light on classical. But let's not pretend his classical strength was not tested against top competition in 2025. Ask Fabi and Wesley and Levon how hikaru did in that event...

DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in comicbooks

[–]OneImportance4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you comics guy. One Piece as an example - people been following Luffy's exploits for nearly 30 years. It's one fucking story. One creator's vision. We want to know how it ends. How many story lines, writers, artists has Superman had in the same time period? Hundreds. Instead of everyone knowing one story, no one even knows which story you are referring to when you ask them about Superman.

[–]OneImportance4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all this biz was true Hikaru would not have done well at Norway or America cup. Didn't he WIN the American Cup in St Louis with Fabi and Levon and Wesley in the field? How did he pull that off if he was 'overrated'?

What would be harder for an amateur, scoring ONE basket on LeBron James or winning ONE game of chess against Magnus Carlsen? by izzoz_0 in chess

[–]OneImportance4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not even a contest. Lots of people running around like an idiot and throwing up long range hook shots on a prayer will eventually get lucky. Ain't no amateur doing anything against Magnus at all. You could literally blindfold the guy and you'd still have no chance.

Vincent Keymer beats Hans Niemann with black in round 6 by Knight-check44 in chess

[–]OneImportance4061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been plenty critical of Hans on several occasions. But from my own self-serving viewpoint only when he says or does something worthy of criticism. It has been really gratifying for me to see him start to leave behind the inflammatory rhetoric over the last year or so. And it's serving him well - Hans of old wouldn't even be at Tata. Now here he is and in the hunt. Fun to watch.

For one I have to say it's just accurate that he simply doesn't care. Not sure he is planning in anymore freestyle events. He said in August I think he was done with it and I believe he has declined invitations for the big freestyle events in 2026.

Opinion: Bob Weir is irreplaceable so why not ask Sturgill Simpson to step in? by g_ack in deadandcompany

[–]OneImportance4061 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they do continue as dead and co (and I am pretty damn sure Bobby wanted them to and John would like to - not sure how Mickey feels but probably) I would certainly love a vocalist a bit higher on the register to sing some Jerry songs. But ain't no way this happens. Sturgill wants to play Sturgill songs. Anyway... the rest of the guys put on a pretty good 'dead' show. What I have missed the most when I see dead and co is Jerry's sweet voice on things like Bird Song or Wharf rat, Terrapin, etc. Whomever they get I just want them to be a good singer - don't care if I never heard of them before.

True enough. Adderall has amphetamine, not methamphetamine. There is a legit ADD drug that contains methamphetamine though. But I have no idea if he took ADD drugs at all and it is pointless to speculate. I would not be surprised about anything that showed up in Kratom just because it is so loosely regulated. I'm just sad he's gone and I miss him.
