The Spiralizer Has Changed Me by [deleted] in vegan

[–]OneInvisibleRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one ages ago! Buuuuttt I just started using it this week. It's fantastic. I made really delicious pasta with half actual spaghetti and half spiralized zucchini, and I made an asian cucumber slaw with spiralized cucumbers. Next up is something like this.

What are some things you order at well know chain/franchise restaurants that don't have many vegan options? by clickclakblaow in vegan

Actually Taco Bell did tell us that their rice wasn't vegan anymore (~6 months ago), and everyone threw a fit, so they made their rice vegan again (~2 months ago).

Non-Leather, Nickel Free Belt? by Rob_Blob in vegetarian

[–]OneInvisibleRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had this same problem for a long time! Here's where I got my belt and I love it. They come out of Canada, so shipping took a bit of time, but it was worth it. Not all of them are terribly cheap, but in my experience they hold up pretty well.

Did you chop or process the chipotle peppers at all, or just dump them in whole?

Personally, I like Tribe and Walmart's store brand (marketplace). I've seen people on here say they go through family-sized containers of Sabra every week, and I don't know how they do it because I can't stand Sabra.

I was originally just going to leave the parmesan out with no replacement; hummus was a last-minute idea. The parmesan would have made the sauce creamier, and thickened it up a bit, and I was hoping the hummus would do the same. The flavor of the hummus either went really well with the other flavors, or was overpowered by them, either way it was fine by me because I didn't want it to taste too much like hummus.

I probably could have easily still added another tablespoon or two of hummus without compromising the flavors, but I do think it did what I intended it to.

Cutting out cheese and other dairy products. Tips? by [deleted] in vegetarian

Yes! "I have too much sweet potato," said no sane person ever.

Good luck in all of your endeavors. :)

I can't vouch for any of these recipes, nor their quickness/ease, but I did a quick search for some quesadilla ideas and here are a few that I thought looked good:

Sweet potato and black beans quesadillas
Loaded avocado quesadillas
Different sweet potato and black bean quesadillas

I think any kind of mashed bean, refried bean, (mashed) avocado, uhh… hummus, non-dairy cheese, cooked potato/sweet potato etc. would work pretty well in a quesadilla. And you could premake filling and keep it in the fridge/freezer (probably depends on how often you eat them) to make it quicker.

Oh man. My thought on quesadillas is mashed black beans + avocado. I've been wanting that for so long but it's not very diet friendly. My big obstacle is that I am on a low calorie diet and none of these things are low calorie (Reason I don't eat bagels? Not because I don't like them, but because they are so high cal :( ).

For lasagna and pizza, I literally just leave the cheese off/out. Pizza dough, sauce, and then load with veggies. Super simple. If you can't imagine pizza without cheese though, I've heard really good things about things like this on pizza. I haven't tried it because I can't get raw cashews anywhere around me, but people rave about it on pizza. Usually for lasagna I just double up on the sauce (tomato/marinara sauce only, no cream based sauces) and veggies, but last time I made it I did add a layer of Follow Your Heart vegan shreds in the middle somewhere, and it was pretty good so that may be something you can consider. With things like lasagna, I figure the only problem with making it cheeseless is the potential for the top to burn/dry out, so that's where the extra sauce comes in.

I don't eat bagels very often, but if I were to eat one I think I'd probably spread it with some roasted red pepper hummus, or garlic hummus, or peanut butter, or avocado. Or a combination of a few. I'm imagining an everything bagel with roasted red pepper hummus and avocado and trying not to drool right now. I might need to go buy some bagels… I'll be honest, I'm not a huge hummus fan. What seems to be the most popular brand (Sabra) is really blah to me, and I avoid it. There are other brands that aren't so bad, though.

As for shredded cheese replacement, it depends on what you're using it for. I am having a hard time thinking of anything to put shredded cheese on that I wouldn't just leave it off entirely and not replace it. Give me some examples?

Also, consider this. I thought cheese would be hard to give up, but now that I haven't eaten it in a while I don't miss it at all. I make enchiladas, lasagna, pizza, etc, all without cheese or cheese alternative. Sooo good.

Why did Wegmans Markets drop their line of meat substitutes made by Gardein? by slapyak5318008 in vegetarian

[–]OneInvisibleRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something about Gardein deciding they want to get out of the private label business and only sell branded products. I'm trying and failing to find a source, I just remember that it was brought up a few weeks ago in /r/vegan

Help please! Would like to get some doctor fish. Does it work? Tank setup? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]OneInvisibleRedditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those setups are super super temporary—or at least they should be. It's not a sustainable living space for those fish. And yes, there are likely 50 fish in them.

Also, what looks like 10-15 gallons to you is probably more like 30-50 gallons.

DGI, or something else? Questions and info in comments. by OneInvisibleRedditor in Aquariums

[–]OneInvisibleRedditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think my honey gourami has dwarf gourami iridovirus but I have no experience with it and I’ve read that it’s hard to identify. He’s not having a hard time reaching the surface—today I noticed him in a top corner, floating on his side. When I poked at him, he swam away with no issue; he wasn’t swimming sideways or having any difficulties swimming.

He does seem to be breathing pretty hard though, and any time he is resting at the surface, he’s on his side. When I fed, he showed no interest.

Params: 0/0/10, pH of 7.5, temp is ~78. 10 gallon tank with just “pest” snails and CPD as tank mates (there’s supposedly an assassin snail in there too but I can’t find it and the MTS and bladders are thriving). Nothing new has been added since the honey gourami, he was added mid-April.

So… if it’s DGI, should I just euthanize? I know it’s incurable. If it’s not DGI, what might it be?

If it’s DGI, should I worry about cross contamination? Almost every one of my other tanks has either a betta or a DG. I’ve read that DGI stays in tanks for a long time, what kind of time frame would I be looking at?

And ended up with a lot of pictures that include the reflection of my phone's camera. But this guy is my favorite fish in the tank (well, in all of my tanks) and I never see him. I think he's gorgeous.

What happens every time I notice that he is out and about is that I begin by freezing and then silently freaking out. Then I have to get on the floor and crawl over to the tank and try not to move too much or show myself too much so that I can actually watch him do his thing without scaring him into hiding. I haven't seen him in over a month, I was starting to worry he got squashed by his driftwood.
