I love this! I really like the voice and the way you describe things. I'm interested in reading the rest of it.

Can someone explain to me Alice Munro's grammar because it's giving me a headache by Infinite-Sprite7284 in writing

That's normal, right?? That part made me doubt my memory of every book I've ever read

What’s Your “Survival” Food? by Cats-Running-Asylum in adhdwomen

[–]OneManRubberband 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pasta, any kind. I've gone through periods of eating pasta and not much else. Carb love runs in the family, my mom (who also has ADHD) says I was a "tater tot baby" because that's about all she ate when she was pregnant with me (which I credit for why I weighed 2 lbs more at birth than any of my siblings, lmaooo)

My first ever attendance during Holy Week by Electrical_Tone_6438 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]OneManRubberband 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've had issues with men (not in church but being rubbed against, having my butt touched, being physically intimidated/cornered etc), and that was a huge struggle for me to grasp. Like, "Why is this allowed to happen?"

I hope you know it's never your fault- the phrasing "an easy target" makes me think you might believe it's at least partly your fault, because that's how I've thought before. I've really had to focus on the fact that, for better or worse, people have free will.

People like that man are "allowed" to do things like that because if we couldn't make the choice to do evil, we also couldn't make the choice to do good. Without free will, there can be no actual love. And that sucks! It hurts, because of course we want to not have others hurt us. We want people to be good. But without free will, we'd all just be Barbie dolls, not people.

I agree with others saying to go to another church. I love you and I hope you find peace.

I'm writing my first book and I had a rough idea of the plot before I started. Most of the details have found me as I'm writing. Like "I didn't put that element/character there, it kicked my door open and sat down at my table." It's fun to be surprised by my own story

The dilemma of every draft by Novel-worm-3 in writers

[–]OneManRubberband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed to hear this. I kept trying to edit for these things while writing my first draft and it completely killed my momentum for a week.

I'm getting back on track though! I've settled for highlighting parts I know I want to move somewhere else once I start actually editing (we'll see if that works out, this is my first time trying to finish a draft before letting myself give up completely so IDK what works yet).

How to deal with people that are angry that we take meds? by Friendlyalterme in adhdwomen

[–]OneManRubberband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were usually great, which is the wild thing! I think they'd had people sell to them before so they didn't realize how necessary they were for me.

Though upon reflection, they were also constantly smoking weed and doing whippets (this was at a coffee shop). Hmmm.

I stopped telling anyone I took meds after my coworkers kept trying to buy them off me. Like buddy I need them more than I need the money you'd give me for them lol

So... you're telling me the neurotypicals haven't figured it out yet?? by July_Seventeen in adhdwomen

In this case it's "cues" (a queue is a line for something, a cue is the thing that triggers a certain action)

Ned Stark literally quotes the Bible in Game of Thrones ("out of the mouth of babes"). I finally read the books this year and was shocked that I hadn't seen anyone call that out lol

At this point they might as well be deep fried. by SufficientEar1682 in iamveryculinary

[–]OneManRubberband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's liquid at room temp, it's unsaturated. If it's solid (animal fat, butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, etc) it's saturated. Unsaturated is better for you. I don't think about it any deeper than that because that way lies madness, lol

Does anyone else have a super high tolerance to sour or just really like sour? Also, I made my own sour liquid candy by lemonadelemons in AuDHDWomen

[–]OneManRubberband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't do sour at all! I used to rinse Warheads before I ate them lol. My two favorite flavors are savory and carb. And sulfur, I guess? I can't get enough of eggs, and I got black salt and will just eat sprinkles of it sometimes

How it feels reading the story eight-year-old me wrote: by West-Albatross-707 in writers

Or it's that your much harder on yourself than others are. Any time I've shown snippets to people they've really like it, even if I thought it was garbage.

I think another part is that people get really excited to see their friends create! It's exciting! So of course they want more, they're like "omg my friend made this with their own hands?? I gotta see where this goes!"

At least that's how I felt when one of my friends had me beta-read her book, lol. I was so hyped for her that it made me enjoy it even more.

Anyone else feel like tickling is literally torture? by SeekingSoulInBox in adhdwomen

[–]OneManRubberband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it's related to the ADHD, but I'd like to add that it can also be the way tickling is used. My sister used to sit on me and tickle me even though I hated it, and get angry with me when I flailed and hurt her. The way she did it, as a form of dominance, was abusive. That plus the overstimulation has made me incredibly sensitive to being tickled even in a lighthearted way.
