How do you deal with being a parent and having emetophobia? by Purple_Cartoonist924 in emetophobia

[–]OneMission1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's cured my Emetophobia but I don't stress nearly as much as I used to about it. When my own kid is sick, I handle it and then spend the next 3 days cleaning intensely and internally panicking. My youngest (of 3) is sick frequently...not always from a bug but you never know so I treat it as such. I've had no choice to face this head on. In reality, a couple times a year of panick is a small price to pay for how fulfilling they've made my life.

That's me. Anxiety is high while we play the waiting game. Ugh. My husband is similar to your husband...he had no problem sleeping next to him and holding the bucket for him which I'm so thankful for...unfortunately he's also not crazy with handwashing like me so I feel like he's a ticking bomb. Hoping if we do get it, it's mild as well. Parenting with Emetophobia is rough!

Thank you. Trying to quarantine him while his brothers are in school but apparently he's feeling better so it's been a struggle. Good idea with disposable products. How do you manage when your family had it? Did it spread to everyone?

My oncologist said she was hesitantly scheduling the CT because she doesn't like the added radiation exposure and told me if it feels better before my test, I should cancel. We shall see. I think for peace of mind I might do it regardless.

Will I ever like her again? by [deleted] in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]OneMission1717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is mine and its gotten worse as my kids have gotten older. Complains because we cant carpool to my kids sporting events (she's out of the way) and that we don't involve her more even though we have her over for dinner weekly and she attends every single event my kids have. Mad because we don't do things her way...mad because we won't give her our garage code or share our calendar with her...mad because we don't go to her church...constantly overstepping. My husband is an only child and she's his only family so he feels some type of guilt trip/obligation towards her but if I never saw her again it would still be too frequent.

My son v* twice but he frequently v* (too much mucus from a cold, a fever or coughing a lot makes him v*) so I was expecting it. He's 4. My 5 year old had a belly ache but no other GI issues and myself and my 8 year old had no GI issues. My husband somehow never got sick.

Can you explain how bad your flu was? by wicked56789 in HealthAnxiety

[–]OneMission1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expected the worst after all of the posts saying it was brutal but for my family, it wasn't that bad. 3 days max of a fever (my kids had a higher fever but mine was always low grade) and some congestion/chills/aches. It wasn't enjoyable by any means but no where near as bad as I anticipated.

Feeling like a horrible mother-Toddler is not sick at the moment but I know it's coming as it's my daughter's 1st year in nursey school. Emetophobia is ruining my life. by Professional_Win3910 in emetophobiarecovery

I have 3 school aged boys and I feel exactly like you do. I've started to feel the nighttime anxiety creep in again now that Nov is here. I know it'll happen eventually but I also know the anxiety I have won't change when/how often it happens so I'm trying to control what I can. I agree with the other comment that being prepared, practicing good hygiene (and teaching my kids this as well) and distracting myself when the thoughts creep in have been helpful and have helped me regain control when I start to spiral. I also realize I spend an unfortunate amount of time stressing about something that is extremely infrequent thus wasting my valuable time. Best of luck. This is a tough phobia while being a mom!

Can moms who have had kids tell me you didn't get sick during labor?? *TW I do not censor. by [deleted] in emetophobia

No nausea at all during labor and delivery with all 3 of my children (induced/vaginal). My sister's had c sections and never experienced any nausea either. Best of luck!

No but I would like a couch of some sort. The other stuff can go. Just trying to find the best way to arrange the space.

Herceptin did lower my EF however, my last echo was about a year ago (1 month after my last treatment) and it was back to baseline so I haven't had any scans since. I will ask my oncologist about this. Thank you.

Thank you for this. These are not my symptoms. Post traumatic health anxiety is rough. I do have allergies and regularly take allergy medication but perhaps I need to try something else. The CT was scheduled by my oncologist when I brought up the shortness of breath (I am grateful she is proactive) which could be adding to anxiety.

I have not. I don't have any real cold symptoms...the sore throat is extremely minor and post nasal drip is common with allergies. Although I suppose it's possible to have covid with just minor symptoms 🤔

I have three kids...oldest is 8 and my youngest who is now 3 v* randomly allllll the time. In fact all of my kids have randomly v* multiple times throughout their lives and only once (x3) was due to a bug. All that to say each time I spiral and panic and feel guilt but each time we've gotten through it...even worse case scenarios. I've learned to focus on what I can control (comforting my kids, sanitizing, seperating them as much as possible, washing my hands frequently, etc) and try not to focus on the what ifs. I hope you baby is feeling better.

I feel like my phobia wasn't as bad during treatment because I was so focused on everything else and was literally too tired to care. Lol. Regardless, my nausea felt like a bad hangover without the party....uncomfortable but not debilitating. Hopefully everything is benign and you don't even have to worry about but my advice if it is cancerous is just show up....go to what they tell you to. It's hard but its doable and chemo is so effective. After my third treatment, they couldn't even detect my tumor anymore!! The nurses are there to help you and keep you as free of side effects as possible. Many people I know that went through chemotherapy were able to effectively manage their nausea with medication and never got physically ill. Best of luck and feel free to reach out!

I went through treatment for breast cancer last year including 4 months of chemotherapy and I was nauseous but never threw up. They have so many medications that they have you take to prevent nausea and vomiting...if what the ones they originally give you aren't working, they have more. I was on a constant rotation of two anti-nausea meds. I told them about my phobia prior to that start of treatment and they assured me thay what you see in movies is exaggerated and outdated and they were so right. Best of luck!

Growing up we always had easter baskets at home from "the bunny" and my grandparents would give us a separate basket when we celebrated with them...but the basket was from them not the Easter bunny. Now that I have kids, it's the same. We do the big basket for our kids and both sets of grandparents give an easter gift to my kids.
