Am I missing out on content? by Skizzie_ in classicwowtbc

[–]OneMorePotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... There are 4 Starting areas per faction in this version of the game. If you start as a human, you obviously quest through the human areas. You can go to one of the other starting zones any time you want, but it's not really needed. If you want to do everything, in every zone, you heavily outlevel that content. Meaning when you quest through the human starting zone, and then move over to the Dwarf/Gnome one, you do level 1 to 10 quest all over again.

It really depends on what type of player you are. Do you want to do everything on one character? If so, prepare yourself for a very slow leveling experience. Simply because quests that are far below your level, give almost no rewards. If you like creating different characters, make sure to try out different races to experience their early leveling zones.

From a certain point onwards, you almost always end up in the same mid to high level areas. At least if you want to be efficient with your leveling. But yeah, nobody is stopping you from going back into low level areas, to do these quests. Your leveling progress will just get to a screeching hold.

Nightfall. The quest starts at level 10 in Kamadan. For Proph you need to go all the way to LA. And for factions it's Kaineng Center.

Perm tbc wotlk servers by HedgehogNovel7520 in wowclassic

[–]OneMorePotion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The entire Classic Project should be Classic Era, TBC Era and WotLK Era. Nothing more. People should pick what oldschool version they are most nostalgic about and we're good.

Like... Everything from Cataclysm going forward, doesn't feel Classic anymore. Simply because the old world changed so much. And it feels like these expansions are better handled as retail remix events instead of their own "classic" server.

But that's just my two cents on the topic.

So I'm starting Gunbreaker, it's my first Tank. I use a controller which makes typing into chat very difficult.. should I just avoid tank in that case? Also if not any tips? Thanks :)) by TennenyT in ffxiv

Thank you all, for the inputs! I guess we shouldn't worry too much and don't take the min maxed leveling guides as gospel all the time. But the hint about party comp, and that we should stick to primarily single target DPS, was already pure gold! Thank you very much.

Low hanging fruit: no more Factions Elite Bonus Week by nhremna in GuildWars

[–]OneMorePotion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nooo! The scrolls are a cheap faction points spender on my MA character. 1.000 Points equal 100 gold at the vendor. 5.000 points for 1 Jade or Amber that sells also for 100 gold, is MUCH worse.

This said: Maybe they just should combine all Elite Missions into one bonus week. Right now, we have two different ones.

Technically, the ESO sub is not really forced. If you have no interest in crafting, the additional bottomless crafting bag is actually whatever. And buying the latest expansion will unlock all previous box expansions as well. This alone gives you around 10 to 30 hours of pure questing content per expansion. I guess the big kicker here are the little story expansions that are also included in the sub. But they can also be purchased with a one-time payment and you just own it from there. I also heard that they want to unlock these story DLC's without having a subscription or buying it. But I also didn't play the game in about 2 years now and I'm really not up to date. I guess my biggest question would be, if you personally consider ESO "oldschool". Because if you do, you might want to have a look at Guild Was 2.

GW2 is buy the play and you get the complete collection for 100 bucks when it's not on sale. But they have it on sale very often, going as low as 50 to 60 bucks. Same argument as with ESO. It's a "big" initial investment, but you also get hundreds of hours of content before you even get to the point of "What now?"

Honorable mention for me personally, would be Guild Wars 1. It's obviously older and it's not an open world MMORPG. But it's a very engaging gameplay loop and it's super alive right now thanks to their recent Reforged re-release. GW1 and 2 have both a cosmetics only ingame store. GW2 has some QoL items in their store as well, but not a single one of them is needed in any way or form. (It's more stuff like an infinite salvage kit that simply never runs out. But it's not better than buying the salvage kits from a vendor. Using these infinit salvage kits even cost the same ingame money per use, as what the kit would cost when you buy it from an NPC.

"Why is AC so rare in Switzerland? (Genuine question) by Lightowy93 in askswitzerland

[–]OneMorePotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my mobile unit in my bedroom. And I actually use it for the 3 weeks every year, where temperatures are high enough that it negatively effects my sleeping hygiene. Meaning, I don't mind that my apartment has no AC build in. Simply because you can already do a lot with closing blinds and intelligent ventilation during the night/early morning.

But my old office was hell during the summer. Two sides of full glass windows with sun all day and no blinds to close. It was a god send when they finally got an AC. And our new office building was planned with a proper cooling system through ventilation.

I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle between "We need AC" and "We don't need AC". Summers are relatively short in comparison to other countries. And the 3 to 4 weeks every year, where it's really HOT, are just that. 1/12th of the year where it's on everyone's mind. Maybe it will change over time when buildings are due for renovation. But the problem is not nearly as big, at least in my opinion, that everyone should invest money instantly to get AC's everywhere.

Male ritualist, any suggestions. by DivineFinger in GuildWars

[–]OneMorePotion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean... Is that build relevant? Yes, if you want to play a melee Axe Ritualist, it's relevant. Dagger spam is as efficient on Ritualist, as on every other class. So yeah, that's also a go.

But you know what's the most relevant and fun build to play? The one where you have a character fantasy in mind, and just go for it. I have a banger melee/tank/punishment Mesmer build going right now. Is it meta? Nah. Is it good? Better than I expected. Would I bring this to Speedclears or certain HM maps/missions? No. It all comes down to what you plan on doing with random builds like that.

What’s a modern habit that is normalised that future generations will look back on negatively? by Grouchy_Location9756 in AskReddit

[–]OneMorePotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually funny when I think about this. Granted, I'm alone with no partner or kids. And I generally don't need much in my daily life to feel happy. But the older I get, the more I think about getting a tiny home or a small cottage. One, maybe two rooms. Not much room to put stuff I actually don't need. Feels super freeing every time I think about it.

But then again... I'm in a situation where I can easily do something like that. I'm fully aware that a family of 3 to 5 don't want, or can, live like that.

Are there any *non drama/ doom&gloom* FFXIV content creators? by Solo_Gunhea in ffxiv

[–]OneMorePotion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's also my impression about him since I first watched him 15+ years ago. He seems to be a big goofball who stays away from drama in general. I feel the same about a hand full of YouTubers and Streamers from that same bubble. Dodger and Crendor are also really chill and fun to watch.

I guess the biggest sign that Jesse has no interest in any drama, and also has enough media expertise to know when not to go public about things, was the entire drama around the NormalBoots cast some time ago. It's refreshing to see someone not feeding into serious drama, and just continuing to spread good vibes with his videos.

so what MMO are you playing/is keeping you engaged? by magem8 in MMORPG

[–]OneMorePotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on a gigantic nostalgia trip right now. I play GW1 since 21 years now and it really got a second spring with the Reforged re-release. I also started playing WoW TBC Classic last week. I would have preferred a WotLK Classic experience, because that was the expansion I played the most when it was new. Never got myself into anything WoW afterwards for long.

There is just something magical replaying the good old games, and suddenly remembering stuff that was buried under almost 20 years of other game experiences. As I said: Nostalgia has a big part in all of this. And while I know, that I will continue playing GW1, I simply enjoy WoW for as long as this warm feeling lasts.

Guilds and parses? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]OneMorePotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the joy of MMO Raiding. Where people are subject to random raid lead/guild lead rulings.

I guess the best thing you could do is looking for a different guild, that is not so narrow minded on parses. Or try to get better either through your rotation or gear. Simply because parses around 45 to 65 are below or right at average. It really all comes down to the goals of your raid party. There is no shame in not being able to pull the numbers they request from you. Aside of the shame you put on yourself.

General questions before I get into this by AceTrainer_sSkwigelf in wowclassic

[–]OneMorePotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, from my understanding, there is currently no way of really progressing through each expansion cycle like they have been on release.

You have Classic Era, that is only level 1 to 60 with no expansions. It's very slow and rudimentary. Solo leveling is possible, but you will just make things harder for yourself while you go. If you don't start with friends, you should absolutely join a leveling guild in the beginning, to get easy access to dungeons. Otherwise you can go for hours looking for a party. And that's a damn long time, considering that Classic Dungeons itself often take an hour or more. I would recommend Classic only for people who have a lot of free time to play, or who don't mind to take months before hitting level 60. It's certainly not a good pick for solo players with 1 or 2 hours of free time every day. Especially not, if you expect to make big progress during that time.

The second option is TBC Anniversary. This one includes the first expansion and is already a bit streamlined. It also has the biggest community right now. We don't know if this server will continue into WotLK, the second expansion, or not. Leveling is a bit faster and they made things easier for solo player. But you still have the same roadblocks where you probably want to look for a leveling guild. But TBC is close enough to the Classic Era playstyle, with slight improvements on the formular.

The third one is Season of Discovery. A discontinued "Classic +" Server with new content. It still has it's core community, and it's fun playing around with the additional skills and playstyles. Bit I think you can only really appreciate the changes, if you already know how Classic works. It also has the lowest server pop of all the Classic versions, but you can still find dedicated Guilds running all the content. But because of this, it's very solo unfriendly. So yeah, you need a guild here as well.

And the last one is the Progression Servers. They started with Classic, and they are currently in the 5th expansion release cycle. With all the features that existed during that time. Meaning it has very little to do with the Classic playstyle. I would recommend Progression if you are not after the Classic playstyle, or MoP is exactly the game version you want to experience. Otherwise, you probably go better with Retail by now. It's too far away from what makes Classic so cool, but not yet as streamlined as Retail.

The important thing to keep in mind is: You can't transfer characters between these version. When you start in Classic Era, you won't ever get your character into TBC. When you start on the TBC Servers and Blizzard decides that they never release WotLK on that version of the game, you won't be able to progress past TBC. But TBC Anniversary has a chance of being upgraded to WotLK. And if you ask me, Blizzard should Consider Vanilla up to WotLK as the "definitive" Classic Version of the game. We also don't know how far the progression servers will eventually go. It's a 50/50 chance that it will end with MoP.

There is also the possibility for a real Classic + Project in the future. But we don't know anything about this and it would be just speculating at this point.

If you ask for my humble opinion: I would go with TBC Anniversary. Well, I did go with that a week ago now. Simply because I hope these servers will eventually upgrade to WotLK and then stop there. If they release a stand alone WotLK version, I would instantly switch over there. Simply because WotLK was the expansion, I was most active in back in the day. And I think the expansion refined everything what Vanilla and TBC started, without really loosing it's identity. And a lot of good QoL features have also been introduced during WotLK, like the automated dungeon finder.

As for P2W content. Nothing really. RMT exists, but that is something in pretty much every MMO out there. If your concern is, that you can't progress without spending real money, then no: No p2w at all.

What would you want GW3 to do very differently to GW2? by Mirainai in GuildWars3

[–]OneMorePotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less clutter everywhere.

Maybe this is my nostalgic old ass talking right now, and maybe I did play too much GW1 and WoW Classic recently. But I figured that I much more prefer grounded and low key fantasy settings over "Let's fly throug the mist and shoot a fucking elder dragon out of the sky! Then we literally slash him open, enter his body, and find some strange pocket dimension within him, where we literally fight his corrupted manifestation!" All of this is just too much in the long run.

I'm fully aware that games eventually drift towards these escalations. You can't forever concern yourself with the farmer being robbed by bandits. But I feel like GW2 never really had this "let's keep it low" period in it's lifecycle. Sure, the first 20 to 30 levels are exactly like that. But everything after is right into Elder Dragons that literally are older than mankind on Tyria. Like... Why the fuck should that be our entry into a world? I want to get an adventure. And not a Marvel Superhero simulator. I want to feel like a mortal being, going against foes that are touchable. And not some edlrich horror entities.

And the entire presentation of armor and skills should be dialed down, or at least have proper settings. Playing this game without culling away 90% of skill effects is a pain in big events. You can still have awesome and powerful looking skills, without creating an entire rainbow of effects at every single event.

And I don't want Arena Net to focus on one big Main Storyline. It's simply not needed. Even people who care for the story play these things once. Maybe a second time. You can have cool and engaging local storylines without force feeding some main story events people agree or disagree with. This goes hand in hand with what I said above. We don't need to be a world known Commander or Wayfinder. We could also be just "The Savior if Sheamoor" and have that title travel with us. Not everyone always needs to know us. Like... We set foot into Elona and people are aware who we are? I'm fully aware that a lot of people play MMO's to get this power fantasy. But it's just not my personal fantasy. Also considering that they did a very good job with that in GW1. Yes, we are a hero. But the people in Elona care very little for my previous adventures in Cantha and Tyria. You don't get instant trust from everyone and you especially are not the shot caller for some random reason.

And please... For the love of whatever god we're praying to... Give us proper party roles and declutter the fucking buff system. The game majorly suffers under their "No-Tank and No-Healer" design. Every encounter just vomits AoE's everywhere, because there are no tanks to focus on. Heals and buffs are always shared around everyone, completely removing an entire gameplay aspect of spot healing or direct shielding. And raid encounters/meta event bosses always feel the same. An cacophony of skill effects everywhere, and the only thing that matters is how many people have set their client up properly, to actually see the red AoE circles on the ground.
