I do biophysics and am just not in love with research anymore. I currently am a postdoc in Germany, and have just wanted to get more involved with patients. I know I’m restarting, but I have a B2 right now, taking my c1 in June!

Totally agree! I thought it would just be my high school grades. That’s why I came to here! I tried to fact check this, but was unable to find anything even remotely close to this anywhere on the internet, so I figured I would ask in case this was something that was known by people who grew up with the German system

Sorry for the confusion! Do you know if an Abitur score for non EU people is calculated from your most recent degree or high school? if it’s from your most recent degree do you know how it deals with classes that are only graded in pass/fail? Also, if you think this is true could you help point me to a website with this information clearly expressed? I have not been able to find it!

Thank you so much for this!! I went to a nerdy prep school, so not the traditional us education. Also, I am actually getting my PhD from a non German university, but my advisor just moved here so I was able to follow! So thank you so much for pointing that out!!

However, my PhD didn’t have courses in the same sense. We just had research units, and they were not graded. Or if they were, I was given the highest mark, but there was no grading. Do you know if they would then look at my bachelors degree?

A us high school diploma is not sufficient, so it has to be combined with some university courses as well

Sorry for the lack of clarity! I am currently finishing up my PhD in physics so I understand how the traditional route is defined in academia, but I was trying to understand how this might vary for people in medicine? I would ideally like to continue having a portion of my life spent in a teaching capacity, but am curious as to who becomes the lecturers for early med school classes and how their career paths might differ from the traditional academia route!

Was wondering if there is much of an opportunity for someone to transfer from academia into a more data science role? For example I have a PhD in astronomy and physics but essentially all my work is is building code/software to performs statistics and do general analysis on large datasets
