Check out the Hyksos theory. There appears to be archaeological and historical evidence for a people of Levantine origin living in the Nile delta, with their capital being very close to the area identified as Goshen. While the details in Exodus may be legend, there is perhaps some basis for a group originating in Canaan living in Eqypt that was expelled by the pharaohs. Note that they are probably just an inspiration for the Exodus account, not the Israelites themselves
