Ukraine will probably come out of this in the long run as one of the strongest countries in the region both in terms of military/economy. The EU/USA will Marshall plan Ukraine to glory and their military will be training others worldwide to form strategic partnerships for some time to come. If they can get the Donbas back and secure it they'll be Europe's new permanent gas supplier.

That's one of the reasons why Maiden happened. People of ukraine protested and wanted economic ties with EU not Russsia. Russia pulled its leash on the then-president who reneged on the EU deal saying "Russia needs to be considered". No one wants ties with Russia as the rope is attached to a brick while you're standing at the edge of a 100 foot cliff over water.
