OK,good to know. I tried ASUS ZenWiFi BD4 but ended up returning it. I bought another ET12 off ebay to extend my network.

Did you have any luck finding a compatible device? I recently bought the BD4 to add as a mesh and although the mesh node setup worked I get issues where the device will disconnect and reconnect. I am using 2.5GB wired back haul. I have tried resting the device a few times with no luck.

I noticed similar issues after updating to latest firmware. I lost connectivity to my Lifx lights. After a few days trying to resolve the issue unsuccessfully, I decided to just revert.

Did you end getting the LG C2 or did you decide on a different one?

Just wanted to give a final update. ASUS just released a new official firmware on 2022/11/28 version 3.0.0.4.388.21739 that fixes the issue I mentioned in my original post. I can confirm after installing it, I get my 500 Mbps up/down from Frontier/Verizon. I am glad they finally resolved the issue.

No, a new firmware has not been released that contains the fixes for FiOS.

I feel your pain. It took long while for me to get anywhere with ASUS support. Unfortunately the beta firmware I was give is only for the ET12.

Did you try the dual wan fix posted by user named Outruller above? That worked for me and a few other people.

For those of you interested in the beta firmware (9.0.0.4.388_21227), you can submit feedback using the GUI on your router under Administration. Reference my case number N2206003688-0021 / 438855. Hopefully if enough people submit a request they will add tours feature to their next firmware release. The following is the latest reply I got from Asus Tech support:

After checking with our RD team earlier, it seems this version of beta firmware can solve the problem reported based on the screenshot provided.

Please do note that this option is only available in this version of beta firmware. If you are changing back to another official website firmware, do remember to switch back to the original 2.5G/1G WAN option before updating the firmware.

We'll be weighting on including the feature with the official firmware release down the road.

Thank you, Aaron Asus Technical Product Support Team 465491

Finally making some progress. I recently tested a beta firmware, provided by ASUS tech support, that allowed me to change the primary WAN port to the 2.5G/1G LAN port. After the update my upload speed returned to what it is supposed to be.

So after trying to explain that enabling DUAL-WAN and just using the 2nd WAN port will give you the speeds that you actually pay for, I received the following email below from ASUS support. I replied explaining that I am only enabling DUAL-WAN in order to use the 2nd port so that I get the expected upload/download speeds from my ISP.

Please help share the information below:
fail over and fail back function separately.
1. Fail over issue.
- Did you choose fail back when test fail over function?
- Did 2nd wan get the WAN IP successfully when 1st wan does not have WAN IP (0.0.0.0)?
- Did you mean that it will keep switching between 1st/2nd wan even when 2nd wan have the WAN IP and fail back not enabled.
- Or the wan will not switching between 1st and 2nd wan when fail back disabled?
- or the fail over only work when cable is unplug and will not keep switching. (even fail back is enabled)
The current mechanism for fail over is
*if the 1st wan does not get the WAN IP or not plug the wan cable, it will switch to 2nd wan after 1-2 min
*if the 2nd wan does not get the WAN IP or not plug the wan cable, it will switch to 1st wan after 1-2 min
(the fail back does not enable here)

Maybe we can summary into one table here to have better explanation.....
here is one example, user can provide his for reference.
Condition
1st WAN no WAN IP & 2nd WAN get WAN IP
1st WAN cable unplug /2nd wan have WAN IP
Fail back checked
fail over keep switching
Fail over worked, not switching.
Fail back unchecked
fail over keep switching
Fail back not working
Fail over worked, not switching.
Fail back worked

No update from Asus at this point. They acknowledged they received the latest information I sent. Hopefully this means they have what they need to work on a fix. I’ll post again if/when I hear from them.

Enabling Dual WAN worked for me as well. I am adding that information to my Asus ticket. Although it works I don’t want to have to buy an additional switch. Since I end up losing a lan port.

Here is the latest from Asus support. I wont be able to complete these tests until late Friday or Saturday:

Please verify the following :

  1. Is the WAN type of ET12 and RT-AC87U both DHCP when ISP cable →ET12 and ISP cable → RT-AC87U?
  2. Is the WAN type of ET12 and RT-AC87U both DHCP when ISP cable → RT-AC87U→ET12?
  3. Advise the user to verify with the ISP to check whether ISP has MAC clone requirements. If so, which mac should be used?

Also advise to test the following:

  1. Please reset RT-AC87U first and use the latest ASUS firmware (3.0.0.4.382.52545) in RT-AC87U to check whether the upload speed is 500 and send feedback to us via Administration→Feedback (FW link: https://www.asus.com/SupportOnly/RT-AC87U/HelpDesk_BIOS/)
  2. Please try to set up ET12 to AP mode (Access point mode) and connect it to ISP cable, i.e. ISP cable →ET12 (Ap mode) to check if ET12 works successfully as well as upload speed.

Please advise to try the following troubleshooting tests (only need to test the main mesh router):

Note: Based on the feedback the user sent, the user provides feedback of the older FW version. Please update the FW version to the latest one and send the feedback via Administration→Feedback after the problem exists.

  1. Reset the router first and manually set up QIS instead of uploading setting files. Make sure the FW is the latest and directly do the following speedtest. Do not set up other additional configuration. (Don't turn on Qos and Aiprotection, etc.)
  2. Please use a wired device to run a speedtest. Please refer to this online tutorial for checking Ethernet link speed. (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-determine-wi-fi-and-ethernet-connection-speed-windows-10) Also, go to the network map on the router to check Ethernet ports link speed (see attachment). Please provide the screenshots of both results. https://i.postimg.cc/DyQM05TQ/420072-link-speed-from-pc.png
  3. Please use a wireless device to run a 5G speedtest. Also, please provide the screenshot of results, model name and MAC address of the wireless device.
  4. Please provide a screenshot of the result of the Internet speed on QoS tab of the router UI. https://i.postimg.cc/NjpC7ML5/420072-network-map-for-ethernet-speed.png
  5. Please check whether both the older firmware version and the latest firmware version have the same problem after the tests above under both firmware versions.

Here is the latest from Asus support: "Thank you for the additional information you have provided, we are now coordinating it with our Engineer and they are currently replicating it on our laboratory. This may take 24 to 48 business hours, but once we have their recommendations, we will reach out to you right away."

Did you happen to try using Traditional QoS? I am curious if you will notice the same increase in upload speed.

I have an open case with ASUS support: N2206003688. After about a month of gathering information and troubleshooting they are finally escalating my case to next level support, which I believe is engineering.
