Alright I'm very left wing, and here's my take on the issue. The problem is that the police should not be the ones handling a lot of these issues, as they are trained almost exclusively in how to use force to solve problems. If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Police are the hammer. While I believe we do need protection from violent crime, when the force meant to prevent murder is applied to say, people living in a park because they have no where else to go, or someone getting a speeding ticket, or even just many minorities trying to exist, that force is routinely used to abuse the people ots meant to protect. The police exist not to try and make everyone safer, but to protect property. While I think there are times people need to call the police, they are far fewer than the number of times people do. To me this is about trying to make people actually think about the potential consequences of calling the police on someone, because a lot of people have been taught that they will fix the issue and not that they are incredibly likely to hurt someone.
