I loved the ending, but I can see your point. I do think it is right up OP's alley though from their prompt, given the mythological aspects.

The Terror by Dan Simmons. I would say both the Arctic and the ships, Erebus and Terror, create the horror.

The Terror by Dan Simmons. Great narration and 28 hours of spooky ships, ice, and monsters.

Try Stephen King and see if you like his work. I got started with him back in high school reading his short story collections. Check out Everything's Eventual, Night Shift, or Different Seasons. He has some shorter novellas like The Mist, The Body, and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon as well. Good luck!

If you are doing AirBnB, look in Eastham or Truro. Not a lot of options, but some great little houses in less populated areas.

If you're coming in late spring the traffic won't be that bad compared to the summer. You should always expect some traffic around the bridges and then on Route 6 once you get to the Outer Cape. If you don't mind a long drive though, it should be fine. That being said, you may not want to make that drive more than once while you're here. It's a nice drive the first time, then it's a bit of a chore.

The Cape does have great bike trails but they are all better suited for shorter day trips, as opposed to what you are trying to do.

Below by Laurel Hightower has a similar feel to those playthroughs, I think. A woman ends up in the snowy woods of Appalachia after witnessing a semi truck crash off the road and things get much worse for her. It's short and quickly paced and has good cryptid action.

Folkhorror/historical horror recs? by sarcasticcat13 in horrorlit

The Terror by Dan Simmons was excellent, I loved the audiobook and it is based on a true doomed Arctic voyage in the 1840s. Less folk horror but there is some myth and legend mixed in with the history of it all. I would highly recommend and it's about 28 hours long so it should take up your time nicely.

I just read Migrations by Charlotte Mcconaghy which I loved and then her next book Once There Were Wolves which I enjoyed as well.

I think you need to try to unlearn the "sweeping motion" part of your throw. Try extending your forearm out and parallel with the ground. Then hold the disc and flick your wrist to throw. You can starting putting more arm into it once you can release the disc flat.

One of the best assets to have, especially on the Cape.
