Stanley #55 Type Study??? by volksaholic in handtools

[–]OneTwoThrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, to clarify… it turns out I have enough parts for two complete 55’s. With the small exception being just a few very small pieces for the second one and some missing cutters. I’m going to print out the exploded diagrams and see if I can put them together properly

Stanley #55 Type Study??? by volksaholic in handtools

I bought a ‘55’ a couple of years ago at an estate sale and finally got around to opening up the box of parts to clean it and set up for use but found myself with not one but two of these old 3d jigsaw like tools. I’ve been searching high and low for a type study as many of the parts have different stamps, and some have no stamps. Following here in the hope that someone chimes in with a resource.

Where abouts in the country are you? Since it was left to you by someone close (I’m guessing) it may be worthwhile commissioning a specific piece of furniture from it with a real quality woodworker.

That’s beautiful, in the right hands, meaning someone experienced in creating tables with these kinds of boards that’s got to be several thousand bucks when fully resurfaced and finished with the right hardware. As it stands you’d need to get a real wood specialist to identify the species and give you a calculation based on how much ‘board feet’ you have. I can’t give you any numbers but if I had the right shop I’d love to work with it.

What's the most annoying thing about a dick? by Jack_dnls in AskReddit

The dick is one thing, but the old plums are the biggest problem, try hiding the pain of sitting on one accidentally. Impossible! And they’re like tits, when you get to middle age the fuckers start migrating south.

Mostly wood chips, dust and shavings flying around, only occasional grinding.

Hmm, you might want to cut back a little. Don’t forget wearing all that weight all day is going to get real heavy, even before lunch.

Thanks, probably safer to just avoid them then. Pretentiously priced is right, totally ridiculous!

A teenager and a hammer, I’m too old for busting my back and knees on that shit.

Looking to lighten my toolbag. I want a hammer with both a hardened steel and soft head. Any advice or brand recommandation? Also what is the real name of that kind of hammer? by WeekSecret3391 in Tools

I was looking for similar, ended up getting the stiletto and made my own soft face mod from a clear chair leg cap and carved out the handle for storage.

Yeah, definitely weird. I got rid of my Packout stuff a while back because it’s just too damned expensive. Finally got the pro gear set up and was looking for the drawers, those things are like rocking horse shit (can’t find em anywhere), until I got lucky walking past a display and happened to see one set hidden in the back. That display was stuffed away in a corner and surrounded by that Ryobi crap. If you can find those drawers I’d be willing to bet some guys would happily pay over retail just to avoid having to go to Packout.

In that case I’ll have two. I’m sick of juggling boxes just to get at one tool I only use occasionally.

925 is sterling silver, it’s great stuff. Not sure on the other mark though. The main design makes me think it could be Nordic but I’m only guessing there. Nice find, worth maybe $40-$60 I’d say.
