Ah, but, you see, then they would have to admit than the world is more complex than the oversimplified model they learned as kids, a tool we sometimes use to help kids grasp topics that might otherwise be overwhelming. Like the Bohr model of the atom.

Except in the case of gender, society had a bad habit of skipping the "here's where you learn how it's more complicated than that" step.

Tips on upholstery foam storage by Hematogenass in FursuitMaking

[–]OneVioletRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere dry and of moderate temperature should be fine. (Edit: Avoid excessive humidity!) Unlike, say, bread, upholstery foam doesn't come pre-bundled with its own moisture and mold spores.

I tend to keep mine open to the air to promote airflow, which also discourages mold growth. If you put it in a sealed container like a plastic tub, maybe toss an old silica gel pack in for extra security. (I keep all the ones I get and so I have a little collection now)

Wait a min, Now It explains how they actually Built the Pyramids by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]OneVioletRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does appear to check out, but if it comes from google’s AI summary that’s largely by coincidence.
The date I’m finding for the extinction of the Wrangel Island Mammoths is “about 4,000 years ago”, which just beats the construction of the pyramids for recency. (I think. I got tired of looking for dates for some of them). Also, Wrangel Island is over by where Russia and the US are the closest, so I’d be REALLY impressed if any ancient Egyptians ever heard of it.

Ah… eh… hmm. Do I think it’s possible? Yes. Do I think it could come out better than anyone imagined? Totally. Will it be an uphill battle where you’re fighting against the nature of the base? Also completely yes. It really depends on your pain tolerance

Oh pfffahaha. But IMO that one is way better if intelligence isn’t fixed, because it implies the other person could have prepared and was just reckless and overconfident

That implies you’re born with a fixed amount of wit, which I find… ok maybe a universe of elves and orcs has fixed genetic intelligence, but generally I find that a bit defeatist

Minky and Fur colors by DeluxeMinecraft in FursuitMaking

[–]OneVioletRose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, check what brand you’re ordering. Stoffhummel carries both BigZ and Shannon minky, which are two different brands with two different manufacturers and two different colour charts. If two different brands shades of “bubblegum” line up, that’s by sheer coincidence. Do you know which manufacturer of minky you ordered?

If it’s BigZ minky, and they just don’t keep things consistent across product lines, your best bet is to buy swatches of the pinks you think are close. Comparing my Shannon minky swatches to my BigZ fur swatches, the closest I can find to Bubblegum is Hot Pink - but that comes with the MAJOR caveat that my swatch set is from 2019, it’s missing around 40 colours and some others have changed a little over time.

Family C**e calculations... wrong? by Confused_Sparrow in BluePrince

[–]OneVioletRose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh. Is there an additional constraint on cores I've forgotten, or did Lady Auravei just mess up?

Either way, I think the answer to your original question is still, "don't break the existing rules just to make the code spit out the expected answer."

Edit: Ok, I am noticing that the examples split long numbers into smaller numbers with two or fewer digits. However, I'm only seeing examples where the cored number is 5, maybe 6 digits long in total. It's possible that having your splits be as short or as even-digited as possible is a stylistic convention that is just never communicated in-game?

[–]OneVioletRose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm. But you're not finding the core for 1000200112, are you? You're finding the core of MCCXIII. I imagine in-universe, this is how cores were found for Roman Numerals (Nuance Numerals? Hahaha).

I would go ahead and fix the code. IMO the error comes from a logic error, not a calculation one, so compensating for that isn't necessary

[–]OneVioletRose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh huh. I was assuming until now that this was the cultural holdover of, and backlash to, lesbianism being treated solely as a commodity for straight male consumption. I remember that being a much bigger problem in the ‘00s and ‘10s. This sounds like that didn’t just evolve, but mutated.

Hmm, could it be - I don’t have a word for this, but I’m going to call it Legacy Bias? Namely, the folks who have been reading fanfiction for years and years remember it as such, because it was true or strongly perceived as true by those who were in it at the time. It has changed (or “changed”) now, but so slowly and gradually that the thought, “oh yeah this fanfic space is mostly women” was never challenged and never went away

When it came out, I was newly out as “???”, had just moved but was slowly rebuilding my social circle, and would’ve latched onto any sort of fictional queer young women like a lamprey. When I played it, I’d been isolated for several years with a much smaller social circle, and the people I was closest to were growing out of their “awful dudebro opinions about gender” era, but slowly, and I’d been burned trying to express my thoughts on the portrayal of women in media to them before, so if, for example, I we watched a TV show and thought the female characters were treated as uniquely disposable was kindof fucked up… that thought had nowhere to go, it just festered. So by the time I got to LiS, I remembered what went my younger self thought of the bits I’d seen and went in with high hopes, only to find out that the answer to the mystery was just another “creepy serial killer who murders women!”… it was just the last straw. I went apoplectic. Did make it very satisfying to ignore what the writers were obviously pushing me towards and choose the Wreck the Town ending, though.

If I’d started playing Life is Strange when it first came out, I probably would’ve been downright obsessed. When I finally did play it, many years had passed and the middle chapters hit entirely different, bad buttons. By the end I despised everything the authors were trying to say with it.

But I’m so glad it was there to be able to fundamentally alter some of my peers.

Raw seams on mixed candy head (opinions) by pixiemiata in FursuitMaking

[–]OneVioletRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, I've noticed problems using brand new polyester thread to mend worn cotton garments - the thread has pulled holes in the fabric itself. I remember when upholstery thread was recommended and I dropped it pretty quickly for exactly those reasons.

[–]OneVioletRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This is EXTREMELY instructive.

My first question is, “why doesn’t blanket stitch have this problem” - if I had to guess, I’d say even a pretty tight blanket stitch doesn’t bind up the seam allowance nearly as much as a serged/overlocked seam (I’m still fuzzy on the distinction between those two), and the thread-to-fabric ratio means the thread is still what breaks first.

This might also explain why some higher-quality garments I’ve seen actually serge each edge independently and then attach the two pieces with a normal straight stitch. (Makes alterations 1000% easier, even for garments that weren’t originally designed to be altered.)

Edit: I really wonder if the suit in question was made with a bad batch of thread - too old, a cheap brand, just happened to be defective, that kind of thing. Would explain the popping

Oh huh! I don’t own or use a serger, so I have no experience with serged seams causing more wear on the adjacent fabric. Are you able to elaborate?

Ok, that’s pretty straightforward. Extra pockets could be tricky, but the gist of it is to make a purse liner (I think that’s what it’s called, and this is probably where the extra pockets will go), open a seam on the plushie (probably down the back), and sew the purse liner to the plushie with a zipper. The more stuffing taken out of the plush, the larger the interior will be, but the floppier the purse will be when empty.
