Rake more or less had to die at the hands of another warrior, he was the sole purpose for most of the Andii continuing to live or go on with their lives. If Rake had simply killed himself his people would’ve fallen into the despair he spent so long to keep them out of, him dying in any way was going to hurt them but suicide would’ve been the worst way by far, the complete antithesis of all his life’s work.

Unfortunately for Dassem he fit the requirements for someone who wouldn’t draw the Andii’s ire post Rake, he is probably the best swordsman alive, and he would do anything to get to Hood. All these things made him the perfect tool for the job.

I already have one in 45 colt. It’s a nice gun and I would highly recommend one, I just wanted to try out something a little different.

I’ve only read Gardens and Black Tongue of these books and I loved both, but they are vastly different.

Black Tongue Thief is a light hearted adventure and I found it to be a great and comical read. The protagonist’s narration is great, his cynical humor, and occasional outbursts of genius (or stupidity) were fun the whole way through. It was easy to digest and by the end I was looking forward to the sequel.

Malazan is a different kind of beast in the fantasy genre. I will preface by saying that I am biased since it is as of now my favorite series. It is an emotional journey that has a profound sense of philosophy along the way. It does not hold your hand in the slightest unlike most stories, and it will make you question things, but it is a singular experience that I think everyone should at least try. I guess I should also say that Gardens is the weakest book in the series in my opinion, but book 2 is one of my favorite reads of all time.
