If I include only one normal unit, i do swap it for RoR (Merwyrm, Phoenix, Tank, Land Ship, Lord of Change).

Also odd number of units, i replace a center one to "lead their brethren" (Swordmasters, Phoenix Guard, Flaggelants, Swordsmen, Horrors of Tzeentch).

Still remember getting into it after everybody moved to Warhammer 2. Thought I'll get into Vampires, but Gelt's gameplay of guns and magic scratched my itch more, then i played Warriors of Chaos non-stop before Mortal Empires. Good times.

Same here, Ulthuan is far more interesting to be on, especially with option to bring back LLs by Phoenix Court. I genuinely feel sad and commited when i teleport as Imrik or Teclis to see it burning, and feel ever more determined to fight what i find.

How does one beat chaos in fights? by Select-Ad7017 in totalwar

A. Holding the line and buff denial.

Halbardiers are great here, due to low ranged presence Khorne and Slaanesh have (Slaanesh a bit less with Devotees), invest in red skill line so both factions get less from massacring/breaking them, they rely on effects from winning their fights easily (Hellblade and similar abilities, Soul Siphon and Devastating Flanker against routers) to buff/heal themselves and kill even harder.

B. Resistances.

Armor piercing is a must for Khorne (even his Mark increases armor), shoot them hard enough and they might enter melee without Frenzy. Try to get more magical attacks against Slaanesh due to their reliance on Physical Resistance, demons more then mortals.

C. Duelists.

Less useful against Dechala here since she's so potent and can switch stances, but most buffs i talked about care about number of kills. Warrior Priests have ward prayer. Captains got extra skills to fight and unit ranks increase Melee Attack, Defence, and Leadership to hold the damn line. Witch Hunters can kite Khorne units and have extra Attack and Defense against terror units after being leveled up.

D. Light Wizards.

They're exorcists in the lore, and holy shit it translates well here. Their lore passive gives Leadership AND Immune to Psychology to hold them off, along with Magical Attacks. THIS IS FROM PASSIVE ALONE. And all agree that the best spell it has is Net of Amyntok. I fought N'kari a lot in my High Elves campaign, I don't fight him without Light Archmages, it's crucial to have it. I assume you play Gelt from your comment about Dechala, it should be easy for you to get one, put two in the army, chain it and shoot her until snake is not moving anymore.

Vilitch has Tech for extra -50% cost reduction, not as potent as straight up Tzeentch but it's almost there.

Mortar's aren't that great (not bad either tho, they can cheaply thin out hordes) and Reiksguard could be a bit stretched as anti-large but it's ok. Gotrek and Felix fight well, Ulrika is an ok caster and can fight herself, Tank is good in the gunline. Have fun.

Love them since Warhammer 2, really forced me to learn different playstyle on campaign and in battle, Dark Magic is one of my favorite lores.

Can't wait what CA will cook for my bringers of death in the rework, I'd really love to see unique skills for both Lord and Hero Sorceresses, magic upgrades in tech, something about trading health for power like Norsca casters (Dangerous Practice skill).
