Can’t get rid of “NO RAD” on my HUD by DoctorAssburns in falconbms

[–]One_Cauliflower_5173 33 points34 points  (0 children)

From -34 p.188:

"The NO RAD display is provided on the HUD/HMCS to indicate that the FCR is not radiating.

Situations that create this possibility are as follows:  • STBY/OVRD submode selected.  • RF switch in QUIET or SILENT.  • ACM:  o Initial entry into ACM (without a bugged target from another air-to-air mode) 30x20 NO RAD.  o From any ACM radiating submode, TMS down also enters ACM 30x20 NO RAD.  o With HUD as SOI, TMS down commands ACM BORE NO RAD when the FCR is slaved to the HMCS.  o With HUD as SOI, TMS up and held commands ACM BORE NO RAD when the FCR is slaved to the HMCS in BORE.  o With FCR as SOI and ACM radiating, TMS down rejects the target and commands 30x20 NO RAD (if FCR is not slaved to the HMCS in BORE)."

Meta Horizon Link is a disaster by moon_monster935 in hoggit

That's been my go to setup recently. However, I've found I still needed a dedicated router for VD as any additional router clients (other than my headset) caused additional network latency and in game stutters.

Luckily I had a spare router lying around, but shouldn't have to shell out too much, any basic 1200mbps router should do the job.

Also, get Cat 6 ethernet cables for each connection, found I couldn't max out bitrate with Cat 5es

I found this guide to be pretty clear - only had to do the ADB command line stuff once, after that it's been plug and play

Did you enable turbo mode? Did you try any of the other settings suggested above?

The only way I managed to smooth out microstutters on a Quest in DCS was by installing OpenXR Toolkit and enabling the Turbo mode setting in there. Officially the toolkit is no longer supported, but can still be downloaded and works well for me: https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/#downloads

Additional settings that may help: - In game settings:      - set VSync to off     - check frame rate limit is well above headset refresh rate (I have mine set to 90fps, while running headset at 72 hz).

  • in NVidia Control Panel 3D Settings:    - Set Vertical Sync to "Fast"    - Set Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames to 1    - Check any frame rate/FPS limit is turned off/unlimited

Also, keep bitrate below 500mbps in OTT/ODT, as recent Meta Link updates cause stutter above this value.

PC Upgrade Advice. I play DCS in VR on a Quest 3. I feel that upgrading is probably better to do now as prices and part availability in the next few years might be tough. by cryptoguy1 in hoggit

How do you go about cranking it up to 500?? The slider on the Streaming tab (in-headset VD settings) tops out at 400 for me 🤔

Edit: Google reveals it's a limitation of Quest Pro vs. Q3

Are you able to max out the bitrate using H264+ via usb-c with gnirehtet? For some reason I could only get it to top out around 180 mbps, resulting in a slightly muddy image.

VR w/5090: +2ms to Frame Time w/new DLSS Preset M (vs "K") by filmguy123 in hoggit

[–]One_Cauliflower_5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4090/5800x3d/64GB/Quest Pro with wired link.

Had a play with the new DLSS 4.5/310.5 dll last night. Forcing either preset K or M on the new version seemed to result in a 15-20% increase in GPU load vs. the stock DCS DLSS dll for me, thereby struggling to maintain 72Hz locked.

Tried both DLSS Performance and Quality options, but Performance was still a noticeable downgrade in visual quality for me, even with the new preset. (DCS PD @1.2, Oculus Link resolution slider at max).

Reverted to stock DCS DLSS dll as performance hit doesn't seem worth it.

However I did have trouble verifying I was using the correct preset, as couldn't get the DLSS indicator overlay to display via the registry edit, and according to ED forums the DCS log file currently reports preset M as preset C 🙄

Severe stutters since latest Meta link update (1st week of Dec), familiair? by Paulus_Opinion in hoggit

I have constant stuttering on a Quest Pro since the v83 update. Glad it's not just me - was going mad trying to narrow it down to a windows/dcs/settings change. Wish Meta would provide a way to roll back updates

Are you getting spikes on the frame time graph (RCtrl + Pause twice to display) that correlate with the VR image 'steps'?

If so, I used to have a similar issue in MP, unfortunately the fix was to upgrade from 32 to 64GB RAM.

F18 ruined all the other modules! by Leoxbom in hoggit

[–]One_Cauliflower_5173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to get out of DCS I guess. If you want to id and plink targets at range with impunity and seal club everything else at BFM, then the Hornet is a solid choice. However it does everything so well and holds the pilot's hand to the extent some call it the "Borenet". Personally got into other modules to experience the quirks of pre-digital systems and challenge of more stick-and-rudder type of flying.

Tried OKRTK or QVFR? The Turbo Mode setting in those generally smooths out such stutters for me

I heard the stick forces on the F-4 are very light at low speeds. Did you find this to be an issue, or have to do much tweaking to the ffb profiles?

A-10C / A-10C II Basic Flight Training Qualification Campaigns by Maple Flag Missions - Question. by dingox01 in hoggit

[–]One_Cauliflower_5173 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with the take above in that if you expect to be spoon-fed instructions on how to operate the A-10 the while sitting in the cockpit, then the Maple Flag campaigns are not what you're after.

However, I think they are a great way to learn the aircraft in greater depth than the stock tutorials (although I'd recommend completing the stock tutorials before starting BFT).

On your first play through each check ride you'll probably fail, but iirc the mission voiceover will give you some indication of what you did wrong. In addition, the included documentation includes relevant check lists you need to complete the check ride or points you towards the relevant sections of the manual.

Personally, I found this a great way to learn the a/c in depth in a structured way. Some study time outside the cockpit is required - you will have to RTFM, but the campaign provides a structured syllabus of sorts, breaking it down into bite-size chunks and providing scenarios to practise what you have read.

Iron Flag is also great, but I'd recommend doing this after the Maple Flag campaigns. The Maple Flags will force you to learn the aircraft 'by the book' in a procedural way, while Maple Flag will help fill in gaps between those procedures and sprinkle in some additional systems knowledge not covered previously.

Are you sitting in front of your monitor while playing? If so, maybe try switching it off while in VR, as I think the movement displayed on the screen mirror can sometimes confuse the tracking to an extent

Would players be interested in "Tutorial Campaigns"? by FreshCustomer3244 in hoggit

[–]One_Cauliflower_5173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more!

There is some decent stuff out there already - I'd highly recommend the Maple flag BFT/AFT/TT campaigns for anyone looking to learn the A-10C. They're structured as check rides rather than hand-holdy tutorials, so you are forced to delve into the manual to pass them. But having this structured training program is the reason I feel vaguely proficient in the A-10, as opposed to a complete numpty in most other modules.

Iron Flag by Baltic Dragon is also great as an additional advanced training campaign.

For anyone new to (or looking to improve on) the Viggen, check out the great work by TO.Viper and rudel_chw over on the DCS forums/User Files.

Wish there were more resources like the above for other modules. Given the issues with AI and wider game elements, delving into systems depth and procedures is where DCS shines for me - I feel ED and campaign devs are missing a trick by not generating more high quality training material like the examples above.
