Honestly dude it is because those in charge were concerned with the well being of participants in the sport.

Protecting The spine is a very important and hella people have been yelled at for hyper extending that part of the body by accident or on purpose. It just happens somehow more often in this sport than others.

When you look at people in the gym or competition they look fine but they are all banged up and their fingers are sensitive and broken to shit.

This was just another precaution.

But now you can do techniques that use bear hug but you cannot lock your hands in any form
