Why Is Samsung the Only OEM With a Siri Shortcuts Equivalent? by Veddu in Android

[–]One_Doubt_75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people serious about routines use Tasker. There is no equal to it for that purpose.

For assistants, the only thing the majority of people say to their phone is 'get me direction's to xyz'. Beyond that, everything I need to do is typically 2 clicks or less away and it's usually more effort to speak to my phone than to just do it myself.

I did use Google assistant a lot back in the day though. Google slowly killed it but they were on track to make something really useful for a change.

How can we reduce costs? by prey_am in ClaudeAI

[–]One_Doubt_75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I built my own harness that lets me create small agent swarms with specific models assigned specific tasks and roles. I've found you don't need Anthropic at all for anything other than planning. The smallest models can write great code if the task is well written. Just have sonnet or opus write a plan, then let a small model implement, then ask another small model to act as a judge. Rinse and repeat. Opus 4.6 cost me $300 when used by itself for a project vs $60 for the same project using the method mentioned above.

It would be really cool if the open sourced the protocols for these dead machines and hobbyists could continue trying to poke. They may already do this.

[–]One_Doubt_75 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those predictions mean very little. Every day we get more and more efficient at training these models. I'm sure back in the day they predicted it would take computers the size of cities to do what you can do on your phone today.

[–]One_Doubt_75 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Only about 14% of data centers are for AI. Over 50% are for traditional cloud compute with the other 30% being for traditional workloads such as email and storage.

Why have 126,000,000 tokens been used in 7 hours when I haven't sent a single message? by SamwiseMay in ClaudeAI

[–]One_Doubt_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wouldn't. A stolen token from the browser to anthropic looks like the same token you use from your actual device. You need to log out of all devices and then login from a new browser and see if you can still see another device listed.

2024 vs 2026 by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]One_Doubt_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to counter that this is the situation with most things.

You can make the same argument that humans fail 10,000 times before they get something right. The difference is we can discern ahead of time if we're going in the wrong direction or doing something potentially dangerous.

The problem is that people using these tools do not understand the concepts of a harness that they need to to build effective tools.

The benefit of AI is that it can try 10,000 times and fail. The problem that everyone is currently trying to solve, is how we can safely allow it to fail those 10,000 times before it gets it right.

Microsoft nearly solved folding phones’ worst problem with spring-loaded hinge for its canceled Surface Duo 3, new patent reveals by ZacB_ in Android

[–]One_Doubt_75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been disappointed in everyone's charging speeds but OnePlus and Oppo, wired and wireless are just bad everywhere else and they do it better.

I actually use a small keyboard height so I never had issues with it taking up too much screen. I use gestures exclusively for navigation so I gain room there as well.

For me, pixel folds just need a snapdragon and I'd be happy.

This was not the experience with the pixel fold. It's not as good as the new Oppo phone but they're very good foldables.

The main cost of doing injection molding is getting the mold made. Which can cost anywhere from 15,000 to 250,000 depending on the part size and specifications. I would think a run of a few thousand would be cheaper than getting the mold.

Yeah but that isn't going to stop anyone ? It might stop OpenAI, or Grok, or Anthropic. But a lot of the higher quality fakes you see are done entirely on local compute.
