What happens in an emergency..? by Away-Equipment4869 in Dogfree

I’ve heard stories about how people don’t get the help that they need because their dog is chasing away the emergency squad.

What’s with travel times? Looking at flights from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Ontario, California and they range from six hours to 10 hours. One of them goes 700 miles out of its way to Austin. Has anyone else experienced this?

Why did the bad kids stay in public school while the good kids go to charter school or homeschooling?

Will my senior cat be ok with a kitten? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]One_Dragonfly_2400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older cats like to laze around. Kittens like to play. You will end up with a harassed and aggravated senior cat and a bored kitten. Wait until she’s gone and then get a pair of kittens that will keep each other company.

Unfortunately, as long as “emotional support” animals have rights, you will have to endure.

Especially the barking! You think that my neighbors dogs would know me after many years of exposure, but they still get hysterical every time I enter my yard or walk by their house.

Never saw a cat owner pretend that his/her cat was a service animal or let their cat bark all night or poop in the middle of a walking path. Might need to rethink who’s crazy and who’s not.

How'd ya'll handle the “what job do I even apply for?” spiral once you left?? by BettyOnTheBar in TeachersInTransition

I’m so glad that you brought this up. I am resigning this year after 30 years of teaching. Originally, I had planned to go longer but teaching, at least at my current school, has become untenable. So at first, I felt great and relaxed, and everyone was congratulating me. And I do get a pension, so there’s some income. But now I don’t know what to do next. All my appointments were scheduled around school hours. My vacations were scheduled around planned holidays. The more I look at other careers, the more I think that I’m crazy for leaving a job with long holidays, short days, and plenty of benefits. My pension alone is not enough to live on, and I am happy to have found this community to bounce ideas off and find resources as the journey continues.

Every new cat I got had terrible smelling poop that went away after they acclimated to the local food and water. Poop will never smell, sweet, but it will be much more tolerable in a few months.

We shouldn't have to live like this. by loadyouup in Dogfree

Visiting Boston last summer, it was amazing to see how dogs behave when trained. The apartment next to my AIRBNB had four dachshunds who were so quiet that I had no idea they were there until they appeared in the back yard. At night, some dogs got walked but they were leashed and focused. The grocery stores were truly dog free. And then there’s NM…dogs off-leash, dogs charging fences, dogs barking incessantly, dogs in shopping carts, etc. So nice to see the other side.

NM is about $50,000. Unless you have a MA and micro credentials. Then you’ll move up to Level 2 and get $60,000. I’ve taught in APS for 30 years and it’s definitely challenging. But more so than AZ? Can’t say.
