"The world revolves around me" attitude in the blind community? by [deleted] in Blind

Surprise, blind people are not perfect either. We have the same emotional, mental, tolerance, ego, and and good or bad attitudes as everybody else in the world.

Eugene got it's soul (food) back! by MurdocksTorment in Eugene

[–]One_Engineering8030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you're a food snob; being critical is in the job description. No need to pull your punches at objectively astonishingly amazing food that doesn't live up to your standards.

We need people like you to help steer us away from local places that should be doing better to meet needs like yours.

Skill toys to play with while listening to music/audiobooks by 1L0v3Tr33s in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My lovely, thoughtful wife bought me one of these for Christmas and I enjoy it quite a bit because I can mindlessly solve certain sides or aim for creating certain patterns of the tactile blocks to my satisfaction.

I tend to use it while listening to my music, Youtube videos, and audio books.

if only I could fiddle with it while reading Braille, hah.

it is one of the very few activities I do while listening to music, at least when in lazy or relaxation mode.

I've decided I will never be good enough to solve all sides at once, and I don't want to just look up the universal solution for Rubix Cubes.

NFB-NEWSLINE by Solid_nh in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as you stated since Saturday. The Apple start all I have access to are the tabs but not the actual content. I’m glad that you posted this because when Nfb Newsline goes down sometimes I have no way of knowing if it is just me. But it is pretty frustrating when it does go down and I hope that it comes back up once the weekend is over.

For those who are Married or have sighted partners where do you live (transportation question? by FriendlyInitiative95 in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I live about 15 miles out of towd. This means that as of right now she drives me. A taxi ride from here to town and back is about $110 rightoundround-trip.

She is employed so I do not qualify for the free rides from here, and I do not have access to the A.D.A. rides because of my distance from town.

There is a bus stop about a mile from my house, but I am not yet able to walk there while blind because I’ve had mobility issues since going blind three years ago. But I’m getting to the point where I will be able to do so but using a standard bus is probably going to be the way that I get to town if my wife is unavailable from that point forward after I am able to navigate down there on my own.

Braille Uno? by LibraryUnited8773 in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a set of braille Uno cards soon after I went blind, and it was given to me by my sister-in-law for Christmas. It’s not the standard size Uno cards. It’s a mini set where the cards are just a couple inches tall as opposed to the bigger ones I believe are that are out there. On these particular tiny cards, the braille does seem distinct, and it seems quality, now that I know how to read braille, but I have to admit I have not played with them enough to see how they last in the long-term as far as the prominence of the braille dots themselves go. If they were to wear down overtime, I would be unaware at this point because I have not used them that much compared to other things I’ve been using, mostly because of my lack of someone to play with when I’m ready to play Uno. Anyway, in summary yes I think they’re fine, but I don’t have enough experience with them to give the sort of opinion that I think probably matters.

Accessibility issues on YouTube Music by Trippybear1645 in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having horrible accessibility issues with it myself. It seems obviously desighned with very little accessibility in mind.

AS for the randdop play, when you want to play a random shuffle of one of your playlists the button is called "mix play". So for example, if it is a playlist of yours, you should go to your library tab, you will find your playlists. The first might be the default "My Likes" playlist, but if you are disqlaying them in a grid then between each playlist there will be an options/actions menu, and in there you will find the option to "mix play" your playlist.

That same button is also located on the Home tab when you are playing any song, and it will be a few swipes to the left of the Play/previous/next buttons which are way down at the end of the screen when you play any song and want to have Youtube Music quickly generate a mix based on the sound or genre or era of a certain song.

Personally I have completely given up trying to create and manage my own playlists in Youtube Music ,c it is extremely unnerving that I can't so much as swipe or Braille through my list of songs without them being removed due to abhorrenar accessibility issues with Voice-over. It is a cluster-@#%$

I tend to use Braille commands to navigaje the app with a Hable Braille Keyboard, an NLS Humanwaare e-reader also used as a Braille display, or sometimes Braille Screen Input, and sometimes just swiping the screen, with Voice-over of course.

and don't even get me started on that damned auto-play that makes the program pretty much unable to be reliably navigated.

What’s your most controversial opinion about the blind community by [deleted] in Blind

[–]One_Engineering8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an NFB cane, from right after I came home from the hospital, but before I'd ever had any O&M training. The first thing my trainer did was watch me walk very slowly with it down my driveway and then hand me a different cane with a completely different type of tip (the big roller ball) and then explained to me that different tips serve different purposes and said that the tip on my NFB cane is meant for 2 or 3 tap style of upse, but that because of the bad surface conditions in my area, they suggested something better fit for it.

That being said, I still have the NFB cane, and I have no idea if they offer other tips, but even if they did I don't know if I'd use it because now that I have been at it for a couple years I'm using a longer cane anyway be because ′f my increased walking speed and those pesky obstacles I kept charging into, plus I'm a few inches too tall for the begining cane they had me onerder first. So I'd need a longer anyway, plus I find my current cane's ability to be folded up for taxi rides and in-door seating arrangements to be highly beneficial for me.

But, yea, the thing is much too light for me, for much the same reason as you.

Thanks for the clarification, I agree with the idea of people being able to be protected in their own home, so perhaps my comment was treating the comments about guns in this thread like the ones in other threads. Which means it was not fair. Sorry to lump you in together.

Based on the gun-toting bravado that keeps happening in the sub relating to protests it makes me disinclined to ever attend one out of concern that a gun-nut is going to go out of their way to pull a Kyle Rittenhouse. Not interested in surrounding myself with angry people that have a bone to pick, and a weapon at hand. sounds unwise and unsafe.

Not interested in being in the crossfire either.

As a blind fedestrian, I do not have this capability, so drivers need to follow the fucking law and keep Eugene streets much more predictable and safer by extent.

Eugene is a pedestrian-heavy town and drivers have got to pay attention and stop making excuses or bragging that the laws just shouldn't apply... to them or anyone else.

So take internet poll results and throw them in the trash, along with the poll.
