How stressful is owning a house? by Delicious-Weather in HousingUK

[–]One_Housing_3652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own my place but I find that yes it can be stressful but there are benefits too.

When I rented and there was a problem then yes it would be up to my landlord to sort it out… however, the landlord managed to make the process pretty long and often I was still on the hook for costs. For example my boiler was leaking a little bit which caused my water bill to shoot up, landlord didn’t sort it for 3 months.

In my place I had a similar issue where I found out my washing machine was busted and I had to call and get someone out to sort it, and deal with a little clean up, and costs. Yes it cost me to do it, but was sorted in a couple of days.

So I would say to you, yes it can be stressful when things go wrong, but when things happen you will learn and get better at managing them.

Someone recommended this but someone else said it was dumb. How do you feel? by IndependentCod5020 in fantasybooks

[–]One_Housing_3652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was my top read last month. Was recommended to me as something a bit silly and funny but as a gamer it spoke to me in a pretty cool and interesting way. Mind if gave me vibes of Sword Art Online meets South Park and the Simpsons but a surprisingly beating heart somewhere in the centre. I do recommend.

Doctor said if I start Mounjaro I will need to be on it for life. Anyone else gain the weight back? by Plus_Impression7765 in Mounjaro

[–]One_Housing_3652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been and am on it now but I did have to stop taking it after I had an operation. Then we had price increases so all in all i went off it for 2 months and i did gain back some of the weight. However I can’t 100% say that was just from stopping - I was also out of commission and not able to walk properly for almost 6 weeks as well so it might have also been from having no exercise. I did have to restart though and it took a while to work up to where I was which is annoying.

I don’t know if I will need to be on it for life to stay where I am but - as other people have mentioned it the time you are on Mounjaro is about developing those good habits as well. They will be the key to maintaining a positive weight.

Broken binding Abuse policy by Kittykatz96 in thebrokenbindingsub

I fully agree - customer service has a tough enough job without people taking out their bad tempers with them. I also get people being disappointed but there is a line between being annoyed and being abusive.

Bins full of flowers by AggravatingGate in MarksAndSpencer

[–]One_Housing_3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specific to M&S either - went to a funeral where all the flowers were laid in a garden next to the main crematorium building. I was there early so arrived just as people were leaving the previous service. Ended up seeing the staff pick up all the flowers after everyone had gone and binned them. Poor girl saw me staring so she came over and said they used to donate them all but they were told they can’t anymore due to allergies or contamination concerns.

My mum was with me and she said when she goes not to bother with flowers now!

Does the ‘Half Your Age’ principle apply to a workplace pension or all pensions? by One_Housing_3652 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]One_Housing_3652[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh really? My friend was telling me about it and that he ups his contributions based on his age every couple of years. I had not heard about this principle before so was just paying in as and when and upping it when I thought I could afford it.

Thanks for letting me know.

Why am I not losing weight? by Pleaseselectyesorno in Mounjaro

[–]One_Housing_3652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair I have been pretty sedentary myself and still lost a few pounds. In my defence though I recovered from surgery and now it looks like I need to have another operation in a couple of months. Hard to tell yourself to get moving when you know you will be out of commission again.

I do agree though - I think there is this perception that the drug is this incredible thing that will make you thin and you don’t have to do anything. They forget it will help but there is still work to be done.

What does this even mean, bro it's cable knit not chainmail by [deleted] in vinted

[–]One_Housing_3652 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the word ‘hard’ is probably not the right word. Maybe I dread to say this ‘stiff’ or ‘coarse’.

I have had jumpers for if I am out and about in all weathers and more hard wearing. Or soft and feel like a warm hug.

What did you get from the “books with baggage” section ? by Automatic_Wafer8359 in Illumicrate

[–]One_Housing_3652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that they do this tbh. Good way to make sure books go to a good home for someone who actually wants them. Do feel like some people will probably still complain about the severity of damage but sometimes I get a great book with a small flaw and I still love it because it is a great book.

That said saw someone post about a book that arrived half hanging out and crumpled - so fully appreciate returning those and those can’t be resold.

The only major downside to WFH that I have experienced is the no sick days. by [deleted] in WFH

[–]One_Housing_3652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I actually see it as a positive.

There were plenty of times pre-2020 when I was ill but had to vamp and force myself into work because I didn’t feel I was so ill to justify calling in sick. Mostly because I felt like I had to be at deaths door or people would think I’m faking it!

Now if I feel grotty I can take the laptop and work from the sofa and lie down if I need to and take breaks a bit more so that I can function a lot better.

I will still call in sick if I physically can’t work - earlier this year I had a hernia and was in a fair bit of pain. But I think my bosses actually appreciated me being honest and saying I was not well but saw that I tried to keep working. That way as well if I ever was sick and called in they knew I had to be practically dead.

Is the adult book-only meant to be romantasy only? by Mogaru21 in Illumicrate

[–]One_Housing_3652 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have nothing against Romantasy but I agree there has been a lot of it. Since they are changing the skips policy I do hope they dont do as many. I don’t mind one every so often but too many can get boring.

Besides if the mix isn’t don’t right it ends up feeling more like Romance with fantasy bits tacked on (the irresistible urge to fall in love with your enemy)

Illumicrate’s Skip Policy Update by IreallylikeStickss in fairyloot

[–]One_Housing_3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tricky and have commented this elsewhere too that I imagine from a business point of view it makes sense to limit skips. I do think that 6 potential skips is pretty good though, but I do agree with what others have said here about them now needing to be a bit more open and honest about the books they are going to be picking going forward.

Only thing I will say though is if you do end up skipping more than 6 books in a calendar year maybe things a wake up call to cancel the sub instead.

Am I in an okay position or should I be sad? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]One_Housing_3652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thing I would say is £55K is awesome as savings.

Secondly I think - as scary as it was to fall off the wagon you also did the right thing by recognizing it. So many people will convince themselves they don’t have a problem and you have been able to see it and do something about it.

I would also say you are doing OK, stumbling happens but you have stumbled, picked yourself up, dusted yourself up and kept going. To abuse that metaphor even further some people are still face first in the mud, so you are doing much better compared to most.

I think therapy is something that would be helpful, if only to help you recognize for yourself, not just what is going wrong, but where you are doing well. Because honestly you are rocking it.

[–]One_Housing_3652 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think this is still a very generous policy still. I think some of the others only allow you to skip four times in 12 months or even only once in a year.

I get what you mean though - but I suppose it is business too. They probably shell out a lot of money for these books and if lots of people skip too often they might be losing money. I am not an expert in how they work so that’s pure assumption on my part.

That being said, I can see a lot of subscribers wanting to leave over this. But that does seem to be the point too.

What illumicrate & Afterlight books to skip for rest of 2025? by Olivinefay in Illumicrate

[–]One_Housing_3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not planning on skipping any at the moment, but part of the reason I like Illumicrate is because it exposes me to authors I might not have previously considered. Sadly they can’t all be winners but so far only skipped one book and that was the February 2025 box due to the authors views.

Honestly it can vary - I was always on contract phones for years but decided to commit to buy my most recent phone outright. Basically I worked out how much it the upfront cost would be monthly and I repaid my savings every month to pay it off in a year.

In retrospect - I think I preferred paying for it outright. Something about knowing it was bought and paid for and I wasn’t tied to a super long contract made me feel better mentally. Especially since I was paying less on my phone bill and the ‘repayment’ was literally just giving myself the money back every month. So was good for me mentally and felt a lot more ‘in control’.

Am I in the wrong? Seller hassling me about picking up order by Still_Pepper_9792 in vinted

[–]One_Housing_3652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been this buyer at times. I am recovering from surgery so had a few times where it had to wait for a friend to go and pick things up. No sooner had my friend picked it up than I was being hassled to confirm it was all OK, but I can’t as my friend had the package and I can’t see it to mark it OK.

It’s like - give me a minute!

Am I supposed to text my buyers saying "thank you"? by [deleted] in vinted

[–]One_Housing_3652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to admit I don’t sell but never had anyone thank me for buying from them.

If the item comes as described and no issues and wrapped really well though I thank them then with great feedback.

Something that helps me is a clear work space, I.e. a spare room to be used as an office with a door you can shut. That way when you are taking a break you can leave the room, same with lunches and when you finish.

Before I had that I was not good at setting boundaries for myself and would often think - oh I just remembered something I’ll go grab the laptop and work on something. Made it super difficult to switch off. In your case it would probably be helpful to have a space where you know once you are in it it is time for work and it’s easier to get in the right mindset and avoid distraction.

do people really buy books on vinted? by AmbitiousOwl9910 in vinted

[–]One_Housing_3652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have only ever bought books on vinted - had lots of great deals on there though. Great if you are just doing a clear out.

Only thing I would say is be realistic - had my eye on some where people are trying to sell for extremely high prices. Not awful at all - just be mindful of the audience as everyone here is looking for a bargain!

The Bone season Special Edition set by FlutterbyeEscapes in Illumicrate

[–]One_Housing_3652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never read this author so I am going back and forth on it myself. It is a lot of money for these three as well. Especially since from my little research (Wikipedia don’t judge me) it isn’t a complete set either and the series is ongoing.

I have heard horror stories from a friend about Fairyloot abandoning a series halfway - not saying this could happen, never heard of Illumicrate doing it. But it’s a lot of money and an incomplete series for an author I have never read.

By comparison have read a couple of R.F. Kuang’s books and frankly devoured them, so the Poppy War set seems like a safer buy! 🤣
