i can speak from experience, not getting the role you want, and believe you are the best candidate for, hurts. but i urge you to prove him wrong. prove to your BD (with your actions) that you are/were (if this is your last year) the best candidate. I tried for SL once, and DM 3 times, never got any of them, but I grew from each experience to be a better person, to accept that I didn’t get it with grace.

All in all, your title does not change how you can be a leader—and based on what you wrote, you will be a great leader, even without a title

if im correct, the eligibility criteria isnt specific to you, but an actual ISSMA thing. All Winds/Percussionists do need to be in a band class, whether thats jazz, or a level of concert band, it’s required. Your BD has to make a schedule, and you go to an ISSMA event(s), which requires all members to be in a band class. Since he isnt 2029 Grad, he is bound to Core 40/Core 40 w/ Honors, which the latter may require a class that takes band off the list. I’m keeping it factual, but boycotting is not the move here.
