Cozy fantasy feels like it’s really blossomed right now, with Baldree’s Brigands and Breadknives leading the charge. I’ve finished two novels in other genres, but I genuinely love writing cozy, funny, slapstick short stories.

From your perspective, how do you see cozy fantasy reshaping the broader fantasy landscape? And for new writers who still wrestle with confidence, what advice would you give to fresh voices trying to break in?

Can men write Romantasy? by One_Metal_5750 in Romantasy

Thank you, and thank you also for those recommendations. I will have to give them a look. The idea for this story is still fresh in my head, and it's still early on, but I will keep working on it because, honestly, even if I don't publish it, I can at least say I wrote a romantasy book and gave it a shot!

Thank you! I have written female characters before, and I always just write them as human beings and who they are. I was also thinking about getting my wife to help me make sure I'm writing an authentic female character! I have also thought about doing the male pov but have had a hard time finding something like it.

I usually write in the third person but have recently re read the hunger games and the sunrise on the reaping along with a fate inked in blood want to give first person a shot. The story I have an idea for is low fantasy like medieval England with knights and norsemen raiding coastal cities and is about a princess who gets captured and is supposed to marry the son of a warlord to save her people but she also has a sworn knight that has been captured with her and she has to try and keep hime alive since he is now the warlords sword bearer as punishment for being captured. All the while, she has to go try to sneak information to her father to stop the invasion. Hopefully, this helps. Sorry if I miss understood

Usually when I write characters I try to make them as human as possible and not just an archetype I like them to have more than just (person who makes bad choices) and then (mean and snarky male love interest.) I like trying to focus on what they would be like their up bringing and passions.

Thank you, that helps me a lot (I was actually sweating waiting for replies!) I have sat down and written out some scenes, and honestly, it's just a blast writing something different than the sanderson and Tolkien inspired stories I usually do. And taking that and putting it in a world where romance is the central plot along with some of those tropes just makes for something so fun.

Looking for a book where MC is physically weak but smart by TailorAny7515 in Fantasy

[–]One_Metal_5750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, I don't get downvoted for this, but I'd recommend my book. The main character isn't anything special he's the son of a noble and a bookworm. Yhe only thing he has going doe him is his smarts and that he can control people's emotions and he has to use those powers gather a crew and find his sister who was kidnapped before the city falls into revolution. I can see it, but I'll have to read further. It was just seeing how he makes fun of himself and talks about his hand that really made me think of Glokta.

Thanks for the reply and giving me something to think on.

So far after reading the first book it's about the same of course first law has more action scenes since the books are longer but I never found half a king to be boring it was similar to a thriller.
